I think any washing machine that gets scratched on the paintwork is going to rust given the conditions it's used under.
I'd buy another LG to replace the one we've had since 2006 but it's still going strong, not had one issue with it.

New cars come with a rust warranty but if you tried to claim for rust appearing around a deep scratch or stone chip I'm pretty certain they wouldn't entertain your claim under warranty so I think LG have a valid point in your case.

Firstly LG are considered to be one of the better manufacturers of washing machines.
Sadly brands like Bosch used to be known for very high quality but not so much these days.
In terms of use many machines due to energy saving protocols take 3/4 hours per cycle.
By using turbo wash on this LG it cuts the washing cycle.
Gets a bit noisy in full spin but otherwise as a current owner I highly recommend this machine.

Weight and volume are 2 different things. 9kg will allow more heavier items, such as towels

I have the white version of this washing machine from Curry’s and after 8 months use, i’m very happy with it.
One point i need to make. A Curry’s driver was about to unload me a washing machine on the 1st attempt of delivery but didn’t handover because I bought new (online) and the one in the van was wrapped in cellophane (with no cardboard etc)- an indication that it’s opened/ex display. If you order this, please check this before signing it over!

this is seriously not a 9kg machine. I brought this for my mother, mother’s day. Yes it’s has NFC to add extra an weird wash cycles.

Just go on there LG website and compare the drum sizes of 8kg and 9kg machines. I REPEAT THIS IS NOT A 9KG MACHINE. I was so annoyed after delivery I was going to complain to curry’s again, this is a curry’s specific model.

Hopefully someone posts the research back here

LG FH4U2VCN8. Is a 59 litre drum

Still boll**ks
Stick to a Bosch, just replaced our 14 year old model with the silver one from Currys, it's true they are no longer get built in Germany, ours was built in Poland but at least it's still built to Bosch standards and Quality Control. It comes with a comprehensive 2 year warranty (parts & labour), our local electrical store (family owed) could not get us the silver Bosch for 4 weeks but still recommended we stick with Bosch, the other brand they recommended was Beko for value, said it would give a good 5/6 years of service, hopefully our new Bosch will give 10 years plus. Did not rate Samsung very poor after sales,

As good as i know size of drum and load in kg is something different...you can put 9kg linen in 7kg drum but is about how good is made bearing and stuff around..

Warranties are rarely of any value to you, they are a bespoke contract regarding your return rights written by the manufacturer who naturally doesn't want to pay out.

So forget your warranty if it doesn't cover this, you have rights under law that will actually sort this for you.

A reasonable person would say this machine, given its cost, would be expected to have 5-10 fault-free years.

Therefore no reasonable person would say this machine has 'lasted a reasonable period of time', which as per Martin Lewis's article is one of the test all goods and services must meet under law.

See Martin's article on your statutory consumer rights, you are definitely due a full free repair, or a free replacement, or a partial refund.

Get on Resolver and put a claim in to the retailer - the retailer are responsible for this under your statutory rights.

A small chance they might want an engineer to visit, but don't let that put you off. Frankly this is self-evidently a fault with the way the machine was manufactured, so you're in the right.

Good luck - let us know how you get on.

We have a very similar LG machine (9kg drum, v similar front panel) and it is fantastic. Should last as long as 2-3 £200 Beko machines and you get a top quality wash for all that time. The rinse function on our LG machine has 5 out of 5 stars on Which, which is something only the £800-£1,000 Bosch machines have.

Only word of warning is the machines can cause "water hammer" due to the way they start the wash with short bursts of water and soap mixed together (which they have found improves wash performance).

Put "LG washing machine water hammer" into Google if you haven't heard of this before.

It is usually easily fixed with a water hammer arrestor, I have the Sioux Chief one available from ToolStation or Wickes and it sorted it for me.

Great company, we have the washer dryer, washes really well. The only issue is when it dries clothes they are difficult to iron out the creases when it comes to ironing. Put it on the lowest spin and heat setting but still get the same result. But other than that probably one of the best manufacturers and machines out there.
Agree with others Bosch for quality and after service - they go on and on and on and ariston .. no wait that’s not right hmmm
paid a tenner less back in 2017, just looked into my emails... starting to dis like currys

My Beko lasted four years then the circuit board went on it which is expensive to fix and after researching myself apparently this is common problem with Bekos. So you will probably save yourself money in long run if you spend a little bit more on a Bosch or an LG.
LG washers are fantastic mines still going strong 6 years on.As for Bosch like everything German not as good as they used to be.

Ahh ok, fair enough.
I just ordered this the other day but it hasn't been dispatched yet. But worried now I'm seeing the thing about drum volume that I should have just ordered another brand 8kg one which would be cheaper. Was hoping to wash duvets since it has a duvet setting but at 59l it doesn't seem like it will be enough?
anyone got a spare Currys code going spare please? long shot i know but thought id ask if anyone has one which they know about or wont be using. thanks

I used to pay the yearly insurance on a hotpoint they covered absolutely everything except damage to the casing which included rust.
Apparently its common something to do with the abrasion of detergent and the way it holds water next to the paintwork.
If you clean it quite often and quickly then it generally lasts a few years longer before the rust starts, so I was told.

Surely you don't expect it to be cheaper a year later, with inflation and a volatile currency, did you?

Same people who stick with BMW and Audi's because they think German is the dogs bits for quality yet year after year they always finish near last for reliability. Its all a myth.Bosch are no longer decent washers or make decent appliances .If you want reliability in electronics it has to be Korean.Dont see too many German made TVs then again the same people who think Bose is top quality lol
Changed to lg after being told Bosch were great washers and only lasting me 3 years the same with my mother In laws packed up the main board.Cost so much to replace it was cheaper buying a new washer so both bought LG and 6 years on still going strong.
