Fantastic phone, my friend got one at work and I prefer it to the Galaxy S7 by miles. It has all the latest specs you want, I won't go on about that too much, but what impressed me was the build quality of it and design. He took the bottom off, the rear is made from metal, but they put a plastic logo bar on the front. He was complaining about that, but I thought it was great as it made it felt like the glass, so it feels more seamless when swiping, unlike the old HTC One I had. Also the antenna is in the bottom there, so it's just clever design, means you don't have to have those bands like the iPhone or Galaxy phones.

What I really loved though is when looking it up on fixit, there are two screws at the bottom when you take that battery cover bottom off. You just undo those and the screen pops off.... such a good easy to repair design, a bit similar to the iPhone. It just means you won't have any headaches like if you broke your Galaxy S7 screen, you might as well get a new one because taking it apart would be a nightmare.

I was really impressed getting to use it and I love how they went with LCD like the iPhones, it's 1440p like most modern Androids and the blacks are black enough. However what I love about LCD is it doesn't fade or have screen burn like OLED, I always get the signal bar burnt into my OLED phones and I hate it. On top of that OLEDs are now Pentile to reduce blue fade, but it reduces pixel density, however LCDs are RGB and so using the LG VR headset, it has less of a screen door effect.

I want one now after he brought it in to work, he also had a replacement bottom with a really good DAC in it and a free second battery that charges in it's own camera like dock.

Weird the reviews for this phone were mediocre, mainly from people complaining about the design. It looks crap in photos, but it looks really good in real life, I swear have the reviewers never even had one. My mate said he went to the local store and tried them both out and picked the LG over the Galaxy design wise so... but for him a removable battery is important.

+ It has the iPhone like dual sensor thing, only it has an ultra wide lens and a normal one, instead of a zoom lens and a normal. Was really cool and the camera app had so many more options than the Galaxy S7.

You are better off with Honor 8, Axon 7 or Oneplus 3(t).

I'd go for the OnePlus 3T on the 28th Nov instead.

The 3T has a better CPU, more RAM, better front camera, nicer design IMO and cleaner UI

Because when I saw the G5 in store I thought it's a dummy. Flimsy built, dim screen and when you press the screen harder you actually see the actual LCD being marked underneath the digitizer, same like the cheap Chinese phones. Same camera and sound as the G4, the only improvement is the chip.
Honor 8 - excellent design and dual camera setup.
Axon 7 - amazing stereo speaker's, DAC, screen and overall built quality.
Oneplus 3(t) - top built, fastest fingerprint and charging.

You gotta be a blind die-hard fan to buy the G5 for anything over £240 imo.

I don't personally agree with any of that, and all IPS screens do that when you press down on them. The device is certainly not flimsy either, it's just built with things like changeable batteries in mind. Samsung etc glue all their component into a design that isn't meant to be opened by anyone but the factory, so they can make more rigid constructions.

I'd bet you anything that the speaker and main camera on the G5 are better than on the Oneplus though. And for those who want removable batteries and SD slots the Oneplus won't cut it either (yes there are still people who want that).
