'The G8S ThinQ is essentially a re-bodied G8 ThinQ with a 1080p display and lower resolution rear-facing cameras. While the latter has a 12 MP (f/1.5, 1.4 μm, 78°) main sensor and a 16 MP (f/1.9, 1.0 μm, 107°) wide-angle sensor, LG has opted for a lesser 12 MP (f/1.8, 1.4 μm, 78˚) main sensor and a 13 MP (f/2.4, 1.0 μm, 137°) wide-angle sensor. Only the South Korean version of the G8 ThinQ has a 12 MP telephoto lens, but LG does not seem to be region restricting the equivalent on the G8S ThinQ. It also has a 12 MP telephoto lens, although this has a narrower aperture and 2° narrower field of view (FOV). Likewise, while both devices share an 8 MP front-facing camera that incorporates time of flight (ToF) technology, the one in the G8S ThinQ has a narrower aperture and a smaller pixel size.

Elsewhere, the G8S ThinQ has all the connectivity and features that one has come to expect from a 2019 flagship. LG has equipped the device with a Snapdragon 855 SoC, 6 GB RAM, 128 GB of storage and a 3,550 mAh battery. The G8S ThinQ measures 155.3 x 76.6 x 7.99 mm, weighs 181 g and comes in a choice of Black, Teal or White. Incidentally, all have mirror finishes.

The G8S ThinQ is IP68 certified and MIL-STD 810G compliant too. LG will also ship the device with Android 9.0 Pie, just as it does with the G8 ThinQ.'

When was the last time an LG phone was in any top 5 review?

Last LG phone I had was the g6. My 4th and last LG phone. Awful. Their customer services is also bad.

Their share of the market is significantly down.

So many better phones for less money too.

I persisted with them for a long while. Have 2 LG tvs and they're great.

But we're all entitled to our opinion.
Awesome phone but I just can’t stand chins on these phones now, I mean the only phone maker I’ve seen that have no chin is the iPhone, but I don’t want an iPhone

A lot of water under LG bridge since G6.

You'll still find LGs in top five especially often in American sites

It's true they've lost many customers because of mistakes in the past, however if you're not familiar with more modern models I would avoid expressing any opinion, as you can't talk of what you don't know, or if you do, you may come across as not knowledgeable.

As I said were all entitled to our opinion.
So I'm afraid I can't help voice my opinion on lg, which I'm entitled to.
Not stopping anyone buying one.
Good luck to them.
I've read reviews on all the latest phones and I'm afraid lg are still lagging behind.
And that's the conclusion of many reviewers.
It's a fact that there are better phones for less money.

At RRP, yeah. But when a good discount comes around, you get great cameras, great audio quality and quality hardware. The only thing I think they lack at the moment is software updates. Apparently they've invested in software but who knows when firmware updates come.

There are people who know a lot about tech (quite a number of Americans on YouTube) who prefer LG.

It's not a fact that there are better phones for less money, just an opinion. Prices fluctuate, that defines value for money. LGs can usually be picked for cheaper than competing Samsungs, for example.

Anyway, you seem pretty set in your preconceived ideas, so we shall agree to disagree. Btw, I like several brands and Samsung as much as LG, Sony, Huawei or Nokia, to name a few.

My G6 just got Pie. Quite happy with that. Only issue is a white spot on the screen, but still under warranty so will be getting that fixed.

I moved to Sony, miss the decent camera but my XZ2 had Pie last year and Security updates, every month. So nice to be kept up to date like that rather than be kept waiting, but yeah, they've apparently invested in a software development centre though, so if they can keep up with the updates and make them a bit speedier then I'll probably go back.
I love love love LG phones but I can't forgive them anymore for their truly awful record on updating their handsets. Still hot though cos it's a great price!

I couldn't disagree more. Think my favourite handsets have been lg.
Also have great lg fridge freezer and washing machine, microwave etc. Never had any problems. My experience with Samsung products however has been very poor....

Love that phone. The Japanese version has replaceable battery and expandable storage. The V20 also has user replaceable battery and has been pretty cheap refurbed on AliExpress lately, about £75-110 depending on which model you want.

I'd like to be able to tell you but I got so fed up waiting, I sold it. That was about a week ago and it was still on 8.0.0 with it's last security update in April!

Mate 20 Pro

I ain't crazy about the curved sides but it is a beautiful phone. I had one before, sold it and bought the LGV30. LG then decided that updates were the last of its worries so I sold it and bought my £152 M20P. Happy days!
£370 now @MrSwitch ... Worth a buy?
