Not sure why an article about early stand alone Blu-ray player is relevant here.
This is an internal Blu-ray writer whose firmware can easily be upgraded if and when necessary.

Keep in mind that the companies selling it below £170 are usually selling the OEM version which probably doesn’t have any software. Unless you already have PowerDVD Ultra for playback of both HD formats and software for burning to Boo-ray (sic) then the extra £10 for the retail version is well worth it. E.g. PowerDVD Ultra retail version sells for £40-50.
