I've used LG drives to replace any OEMs that have went south on me.
Top drives, I'm sure they'd play 7" singles if you trimmed the disc a bit:w00t:

£23.99 is retail boxed drive with extra bezels

Has anyone used this or any other they drive can recommend to burn films onto dual layer discs? as my current samsung drive is playing up and keeps coming up with errors on verification, but the discs i use are fine on a freinds, im looking for a decent reliable drive with good compatability for burning dual layers any ideas?

yeah LG are usually my choice of DVD burner, good and solid (or have been for several years).

retail kit is 16.63 but 2-4 weks it says
