sorted byIt is useful if you have a 360 laptop and go in tent or tablet mode. But I rarely go out of laptop mode.
Hot price! I would've got this a few weeks ago but just refurbishing my office so no funds.
This is clearly in readiness for new 12th gen intel models - they just released in South Korea. No major updates beyond the processor really. (edited)
In summary;
+ Big screen, perfect resolution IMO
+ Very light, incredibly light!
+ Very good battery life, possibly best Windows laptop I've come across
- Glossy screen, not good in a bright environment or even a well lit room
- Body flex, lack of premium feel vs other premium laptops
- Screen wobbles when typing
For the money this is a really attractive package. Unfortunately I couldn't live with the negative points. I think the RRP of £1800 is too high and due to lack of demand this is now at almost half price. If LG could address the glossy screen and wobble issues this is definitely a buy. Just a shame these issues make this an un-useable machine. Not for me anyway...
- Gets very toasty. The 1165G7 weirdly scored less in testing because it was harder for the quietly-tuned cooling solution to deal with. The 1135G7 gets toasty too, but slightly faster with it over time despite being the lower tier. Basically, these 11th gen processors are great for short bursts of activity (casually beating 5GHz) but if you want to do sustained heavy load stuff it will really cook. I have a profile to make it less aggressive to extend the lifespan in light use.
- NVME style SSD in there.
- Annoyingly difficult to open and upgrade. Soldered RAM.
- LG's software is terrible. Learning how to neuter their nonsense without losing functionality is half the battle for the first week of ownership.
- The 19 hour battery life occurs in part because of a host of irritants, like default screen behaviour doing dimming/brightening depending on screen content, which rarely follows any logic. If I want to edit photos that needs switched OFFFFF to ensure consistent visuals. Once you have it set up like a real computer, it's more like 6-7 hours. Still dandy.
- The lightness isn't that much of a deal compared with most other thin and light laptops. Next to a gaming laptop with a discrete graphics card and beefy cooling solution, yes it's going to feel like it's barely there. But there's a dozen thin-ish laptops with better cooling at similar spec.
- The screen res is pretty nice for the size. 1440p plus a little extra wodge in the vertical. Splendid.
- Due to the sacrifices LG had to make to break records of thin'n'lightness, it ends up feeling cheaper and wobblier as a result.
Most of the above seems really negative, but I use the thing all the time and it's pleasant enough to bibble around.
9 months....
Best thing about the laptop is the weight !
The poorest thing on the laptop is the reflective screen.
Also downward facing speaker are not the best.
I think all they thought about was the weight.
See the bottom of the post. The £15 annual online membership has no qualification.
Apparently upto 19.5 hours battery is poor these days?
If this has poor battery life I should dispose my laptops. This is by far the best laptop I've touched in terms of battery life. Well, 2nd best, had a Zenbook that did better. (edited)
I guess you miss the point. You focus on a CPU and fair enough, for £1k you want great specs. But some will say they want a dedicated GPU. Others will want a matte screen. And the list goes on. One of the reason this laptop is expensive is its form factor. LG Gram is not your usual laptop, and you pay for the form factor. I don't know how many 17 inch are 1.3kg and have almost 20 hours battery life. Not many, if any. The form factor and the lightweight was always the main selling point for LG Gram, this is how this model got known. On top of this, lots of people will want this for the screen size. There are not that many 17 inch good laptops to choose from.
Ryzen 5000 is not necesarily better, it depends what you want from your laptop. Most people will not notice a difference. With Ryzen, more than likely you'll lose the Thunderbolt which is important to some.
Waiting for 12th gen again, we don't know the price and I guess at that time some will think they will wait for the 13th gen.
I compromise on specs for the form factor and build quality. This laptop has almost everything, the i7 11th gen is a good CPU. (edited)
I'm the same. I didn;t use the Touchscreen on my XPS15 all the time, but enough to miss it if it wasn't available.

Body is flimsy though so don't expect it to not flex when you have it at awkward angles.
The LG Gram was good but the screen was too reflective and there was too much flex in the chassis. It just didn't feel premium enough for the money. The XPS is much more expensive but at least it feels premium. If you can live with the glossy screen and flex then this is value for money.
It's a pity it's not touchscreen, as I would've bitten. I'm too used to using the touchscreen nowadays.
I have a xps15, I was looking at the 16inch as a replacement. touch screen is nice but I doubt I'll miss it.
How long have you owned this?
You're comparing very different products. (edited)
Can anyone recommend a slim & tight fitting case/sleeve?
Touchscreen is great at certain times; e.g. sitting on the sofa etc.
What about people who don't work due to disability or are an unpaid carer looking after a loved one full-time?
Is this not discriminatory?
But this is to shop online only - plus they charge 5% on top.
Many of the offers are in store so still no access to them for people that don't qualify for
membership.
Doesn't seem fair.
I dont know if I'm misunderstanding you, but anybody can join costco. Theres a trade and non trade membership, where non trade is slightly more by a few quid, but you pay for either. Those memberships are good for both in store and online so theres no hard requirement to be in an approved trade.
Maybe i am reading it all wrong. Please correct me if i'm wrong.
From my understanding 'trade membership' is for business owners and managers.
Individual/non-trade membership is for current or retired employees of select employment
groups or professions such as banking, police, health services etc. This can all be found at
customercare.costco.co.uk/app…hip
So then people such as the unemployed, carers, those unable to work due to disability or ill health are not
entitled to a membership to shop in store. The only option offered is the online membership where
product range is limited and you are charged an extra 5% on top, (edited)
I didnt realise that. Its surprising since they scour the local businesses encouraging anyone to sign up. I have also seen them indiscriminately signing up individuals in shopping centres before. I am not sure if they dont enforce these requirements or they just do it inconsistently. Either way, if you want a membership then just lie and print out some paperwork yourself. But if you choose not to then take my word you arent missing all that much and for the large part, outside of a few select deals, it's quite an expensive affair and even with the deals they are often available on other retailers such as amazon for similar prices.
