This is a brilliant price for a high-quality drive. I have had this for a few months now, (paid a little bit more) and have had huge success, with no problems whatsoever. Can't be bad!

seems the cheapest re-writeable blu ray drive I can find heat added

anyone know of a good drive/cheap one that can just read blu-ray and what are they like compared to a Blu-ray player in picture quality ? thanks

Wow it's 32p cheaper than the last time it was posted 8 days ago; why not just ask the other poster to amend the price!

Thanks bob_hoskins for your reply and help. Anyone know if these are just as good as a normal blu-ray player ? thanks

That depends on you. Whether you want to watch Blu-rays on the PC or the TV.

You need an HDCP compliant monitor and graphics card too remember. Probably will be okay if you have a pc from the last two or so years but older machines may not have the certification.

I am a fan of LightScribe and Labelflash, although I am still in the DVD era. Are there any "LightScribe-able" BD-R available these days?

Agreed. Considering how long they've been around now, they really should be less than £50 by now.

Indeed it was deliberate Late, as gunner had asked for just readers.

My pc is in my room hooked up to tv so no worry about it being off downstairs.I dunno if my pc is strong enough as its ageing now

Im trying to find a decent Blu Ray player (or Writer combo) which has BD-Live (Profile 2.0) built in as well. Im struggling to find one, all I can find are stand-alone players rather than internal PC drives. Any ideas?

Heat added though, awesome price been looking at this for a few weeks now, might still buy it if no other suggestions.

As far as I know BD-Live will be dependant on the software you use to play the disk, not the drive. The main requirement is local storage and an internet connection, and obviously these are not included in the drive itself but in your PC. I know PowerDVD 10 has BD-Live, check if the included PowerDVD 8 with this drive has it and that's your answer.

As treaclepeople has said that is down to your software......but I would just warn you that BD Live is often a source of problems, several forums are recommending the 1st thing to try if your Blu-ray player runs into trouble or locks up & freezes on menus etc is to disable it.

Personally I'm still living in hope that it will turn out to be something worthwhile but from what I've seen of it BD Live is as damp a squib as multi-angle ever was on DVD.
Great for the studios to try and flog you over-priced merchandise (when their servers move beyond glacial speed) but so far, from what I've seen, precious little else.

Im waiting for the drives to be sub £50 and theBlu Ray 50GB discs to come down to less than a £1 a disc... Good price on drive though but holding off for now.

Why do people need bd-rw drives?

Bb-rom I can understand but bd-rw? If you want storage would a 2TB hard disk not be better?

rash

It would be cheaper but i have a 3D TV and want maximum quality so i decided to take the plunge at Dabs @ £69.62 with 2% Quidco. lol
Storing Half SBS 3D content .mkv movies on a 2TB drive is more convenient but is not as good quality as FULL Blu Ray 3D.

50GB Media is still expensive at the moment but it will no doubt come down in price, even more so when 100GB blank discs start to be a real option.
I get my 50GB DL discs for £3.50 each from a guy in Japan on ebay...

I've postes this on another link

"A good quality blank will cost you £25 for 3 x 25GB discs

(yes crappy £10 packs are out there, I know..but you will have something to put your coffee cup on)

thats 25/75 = £0.33 per GB

a 2TB USB buffalo drive on amazon is £76.90 (fat 32 for PS3)

thats 76.90/2000 = £0.04 per GB

a 650% increase per GB for a blu ray disc

blu-ray writers are a waste of money unless you need to be portable with the disc.

Better to by a Blu-ray reader with dvd writting capability and a usb HDD drive"

II WATTS II is getting a good deal on his discs but I'd still go portable HDD for writting speed any day

I agree you get more storage for you money but i have both so i just embrace it all.. lol

I have a 2TB NAS Drive along with 1TB internal storage on pc.

One thing that is for sure you will fill a drive eventually and end up needing to buy another which is more power and more space needed.

With discs storage (space) is so much easier to manage and i do like the added features / menu on discs and the lossless DTS MASTER AUDIO and DOLBY MASTER HD sound sources available.

For me its a win win all round really, i can store on disc or the NAS drive for whatever i need.

Update on LG Drive:

Bought some cheap Maxell discs (25GB) for £9.99 to try them out, burned my first movie at 4x in 25 mins without any errors or skips...

Think you'll find your links are BD readers and not BD RW as well
