Play DVDs with improved picture quality and 300W of audio output from this compact LG home cinema system.

USB Direct Recording
With USB Ripping, you can connect a compatible MP3 player to the LG product’s USB port and record or ‘rip’ music from a CD directly to the MP3 player. The tracks will be copied onto the MP3 player in the order they appear on the CD. This great feature enables you to copy music on a MP3 player without the need for a computer!

USB Plus
Playback videos, photos and music via USB storage device via the LG player onto your TV.

1080P upscaling
DVD or Blu-ray players featuring 1080P up scaling can improve the picture quality of a Standard Definition (SD) DVD to that of Full High Definition (FHD) 1080P picture by using the HDMI connection and filling in the missing details. For the ultimate picture a Blu-ray disc will provide all the detailed picture quality without the need for picture to be up scaled.

DivX
DivX is a file format that allows movies to be compressed and fit onto a CD as a DivX movie is about 8 to 12 time smaller than a DVD. DivX playback on LGs video and audio products allow you to download DivX movies from the Internet onto a CD or USB stick, to then enjoy in the comfort of your living room. Well, it's £90 so I guess hot (heat added), personally I'd go further upmarket though unless your budget is this limited.

anyone got one of these or read any reviews ? whats the general opinion on this product please

I love how it declares full HD1080p that's misleading as all it is is a DVD player with speakers and if it was full HD there would be no need for Bluray as normal DVD's would do, I don't think its hot as normal DVD players are 10 a penny and will soon be obsolete as Bluray players will play the old DVD's.

Im voting cold.

SD, not HD. Don't be conned by the marketing.

This is one of those systems that after a year or so ends up in one of the kids bedrooms while you get a proper HD system. Not voting wither way

Is this a good price for a branded home theatre kit? I couldn't really justify paying any more than £100, as I don't watch a huge number of DVDs.

Not really interested in Blu-Ray/1080P.

Doesnt have optical so cant connect to ps3, sky, virgin etc

I would pay the extra and get LG HT805SH

Sorry for stupid question....can this play back the sound from Sky HD? I would think as 'Home Cinema' it should...but not clear.
Thanks
apologies - realised previous comment was my answer immediately I posted!
To complicate matters I need to connect an Xbox 360 too, so on investigation really need dual optical input

To get 5.1 sound from Sky+ HD, you need to connect via Optical cable, which this system doesn't support.

That LG above looks better for the low-end, since it has at least an optical in. I'd suggest not getting anything with no real connectivity.

Personally I'd look at something like the Onkyo HTS3305 package or a good deal on a Yamaha receiver and some speakers - I think it's a false economy to get something with the audio hardware built into a DVD player and the connectivity and quality will be far better. I'd guess you could do something fairly respectable for £200 (maybe £100 av receiver, something like a yamaha 565 on clearance if you're lucky, and some lowish end 'real' speaker set like the Yamaha NSP280 or 285's, which is twice this deal's cost so not a particularly fair comparison. Decent audio kit should last a lot longer and sound better, and if your budget's higher all the better.

So this is good at the price, but I'd still save up rather than get this unless you see yourself only using DVD's for the foreseeable future.
