With it increased processing power, the LG OLED55A26LA maximises the full potential of its OLED screen, giving you the best possible picture for the price.

SELF-LIT OLED – the ultimate picture technology
Rather than using a backlight, OLED TVs feature self-illuminating pixels. This SELF-LIT technology means that this LG 55 inch TV delivers 100% colour fidelity, infinite contrast with the deepest depth and stunning detail.

Powerful processing, made better – Alpha 7 Gen 5
Now in its fifth generation, LG’s powerful Alpha 7 processor continues to deliver optimum sound and vision. Using AI technology, the picture and sound are optimised to best suit the genre – be it movies, sport, gaming or regular TV. With Dynamic Tone Mapping, background enhancement and upscaling improvements, picture processing is more advanced than ever.

Now with AI Picture/Sound Pro for professional sound and vision
Previously only available on higher models, AI Picture Pro and AI Sound Pro are now standard on the OLED55A26LA. AI Picture Pro uses deep-learning algorithms to recognise content, remove noise and optimise the picture. AI Sound Pro leans from more than 17 million audio data points, identifying voices, effects and frequencies. From here, it optimises the sound by genre, giving a more natural sound quality.

Ultimate detail - Dolby Vision IQ
For ultimate detail, in all environments, this LG OLED features Dolby Vision IQ. Dolby Vision IQ version uses data within the signal and light sensors inside the TV to adjust the picture quality for the best contrast. This improves the picture’s brightness, without ‘washing out’ the depth. You get a consistent picture quality, however light or dark your room is. Whether you’re watching a brightly lit sports event or moody movie, Dolby Vision IQ adjusts to suit.

HDR made better, with HDR10 Pro
LG’s powerful processing also helps in getting the very best from HDR10 material. Whether watching movies or gaming with HDR10 games, HDR10 Pro intensifies the regular HDR experience. HDR10 Pro automatically adjusts the brightness, enhancing colour and detail for a more vivid picture.

See the picture exactly as originally intended, with Filmmaker Mode
If you’re mad about movies, you’ll love Filmmaker Mode. Designed in collaboration with filmmakers and Hollywood studios, Filmmaker Mode lets you experience the cinematic vision, exactly as the director intended. Overriding the TV’s own motion and picture processing, Filmmaker Mode presents the correct aspect ratio, colour and frame rate – just as the filmmakers intended.

Dolby Atmos compatible sound
With a Dolby Atmos processor built-in this LG 55” TV decodes Atmos sound tracks - giving you the potential for an even more immersive sound. With its built-in speaker system and punchy amp, the OLED55A26LA delivers a smooth, well-balanced sound.

Welcome home, with LG webOS 22 – the best in smart TV
Widely regarded as one of the best smart TV platforms, LG’s webOS system continues to set the standard. The latest webOS 22 offers improved personalisation and recommendations. You can create up to six personalised profiles, with individual viewing suggestions, sport alerts and app lists.

Magic Remote for easy control
LG’s Magic Remote has always led the field for simple, gesture control. As well as this, the remote features direct keys for popular streaming services Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney + and Rakuten TV. Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa also get dedicated buttons for simply voice recognition.

The hub of your home entertainment – with voice control
Featuring LG’s ThinQ AI technology, you can control a Home IoT ecosystem with natural voice recognition. With both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa built-in, it makes it even easier to control your LG OLED TV and quickly access the entertainment you’re looking for.

Would this be good for general use? Watching films/sports?

Planning on getting the C2 for gaming but want something for general use. (edited)

Worth noting that the 6 year warranty is to repair your TV if cost effective. If its not economical they provide a voucher for a fraction of its value. As I recently found out.

I had a tv break year 4 of a 5 year warranty with John Lewis. We had an engineer visit who marked it as unfixable and I received a full refund. Shame richer sounds don’t operate like this.

I have this TV and am very pleased with it. We'd paid £679 last Black Friday, so this is a great price. We had upgraded from a 6 year old 1080p screen, and this was our first 4K HDR screen so we're not comparing it against too much. We use it just for watching TV, films (streaming and via freeview) and a bit of PS5 and the picture and sound seem great. PS5 output is 60Hz with it. Plenty of presets for colour and brightness that work well in a sunny room and on a night when it's dark. Apps are pretty well supported with everything from Netflix, Prime and Disney+ through to stuff like Plex and Jellyfin too.

Obviously there's better TV's available, but having had ours for 6 months and seen family and friends who spent £1k+ on their TV's I honestly couldn't tell much difference. Seems like a solid TV for the budget.

In layman’s terms what the difference between this and the c1 or c2?

    Conclusions from rtings reviews...
"The C2 is a higher-end TV than the A2 and has better performance and features [faster processor, better sound for example]. The C2 gets much brighter, especially in HDR, so highlights pop more. If you're a gamer, it's better to go for the C2 as it has HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and VRR support, which the A2 doesn't have, so it can't take full advantage of current-gen gaming consoles."

"The C2 OLED is slightly better than the C1, although the performance of the two is quite similar. The C2 is a bit brighter, especially in SDR and when displaying small, bright highlights in HDR. The C2 has a slightly wider color gamut but worse tone mapping, so it doesn't respect the creator's intent as well. The C2 also has slightly improved smart features, including a new hands-free voice control feature, and the smart interface now supports user profiles, meaning you can customize the user experience to each family member."

An an owner of an early-2015 LG 55" OLED (still going strong btw, apart from some dropped apps support) & an A1 48", all I can say these TVs are fantastic - even friends who own the latest OLEDs cannot believe the 55" is 8 years old! I've not experienced any judder on either.
If you don't need to game at 120Hz & can simply draw the curtains if your room is too bright for optimal viewing, then just about 𝙖𝙣𝙮 OLED-related TV will do (compared to most other screen tech). If the sound isn't good enough for you, any reasonable to high-end soundbar will do just fine. (edited)

It's so annoying that I've been wanting a deal for the 40-48 inch group for this model and there has never been a cheaper price for those than for this 55 inch one!
    warfish's avatar
    warfish
Agree it's annoying. Apparently the reason is the size of the "mother glass" that the panels are cut from - the dimensions were planned so that 55" and 65" was the sweet spot to minimise wastage.

Is the referesh rate 50Hz or 60Hz?

I always thought LG A series are 60Hz but this page says "50Hz Native"

I think this is just a PAL holdover or some such. As looking at the actually spec sheet on the website it says 60Hz.

Is 50HZ refresh rate bad? I need a TV but was told to go for 120HZ? Does it make much difference
    spannerzone's avatar
    spannerzone
50Hz is what TV in UK/Europe is broadcast at, so it's not bad, it's the standard. Other sources like games consoles are often 60Hz (this TV will cope with 60Hz too) However Using electronic trickery, many TVs offer higher display rates to attempt to give a smoother looking image.... by doubling up the same frame (in simplistic terms) - personally I find all the supposed picture enhancements often make an image look more artificial and overly coloured and contrasted, but that's my opion. I've turned most enhancements off and find a much more natueral image (I don't have this TV mind you)

TV manufacturers have long since known that higher number specifications makes their product sound better (to the uninformed) - so some quote stupidly high 400Hz refresh rates.

A high quality 50Hz TV can often perform much better than a poorly built 100Hz TV - it's all about how the TV processes the image and that cannot be measured just by the max refresh rate. (edited)

worth making a carboard cut out as i thought the same but the 55 was fine in the end as not much biogger than an older 50 due to much thinner bezels.

    Hmm this is very tempting....

My living room tv is broken and needs replacing and the boss of the house has given me a full budget of £550......

I do use my PS5 a lot however that will be in the outbuilding in a few months with a different setup (will be an OLED)

Just pondering if this is a better tv to get than say the hisense 55u7hqtuk or TCL c735 qled. I prefer OLED tech (plasma fan) to LED etc. I have the blinds drawn most of the time in the front room haha

I've read reviews all 3 TVs (not much on the Hisense apart from Avforums) any advise would appreciated

This is a much better than the other two you have mentioned. The only downside I'd say as a general TV would be it's brightness but if you not coming from the searing brightness of a high end LED TV than that shouldn't matter. (edited)

Got my a2 55” 4/5 months ago from Currys with 5 year warranty for about the same price if i remember correctly. As a 1st OLED TV, damn the picture is soo stunning, the blacks are actually blacks not grey, the colours are so sharp and bright. Im still over the moon with it. Will never go back from OLED.

I have a C9 £1799 when I got it. I'm super happy with these sub £800 prices for the basic models. They aren't quite upto C9 (2019) level in terms of performance but by god are they getting better. By the time my screen has had 5 x wear levelling darkenings at 5000 hours it'll be 2030 and I might be able to get a new LG oled with an EX panel at 55" and 120hz on 4 ports for this price! Anyone with a C9 or newer literally will never need a TV until some sort of new tech comes out. We got the full feature set that lasts in 2019!
