What's that matter when you have got a 6 year warranty with Richer Sounds? Who are probably the best retailer when it comes to aftercare etc

You notice how Samsung offer burn in cover against their NON OLED TV's,yet on their own OLED mobile phones screens they don't offer such bold warranties !

That's just a marketing trick, don't get fooled by it. Samsung's aren't OLED, so no chance of burn in anyway.

It's like ford saying "free replacement wings if yours fall off"

Are you using the TV in certain ways to try and avoid burn in? Eg: limiting usage of certain games with status / info bars, or avoiding excess time on channels with a permanent logo, or avoiding taskbars etc?

Thanks

Nope i use it in just a normal way.

I do give tips to people in my videos on how to help avoid screen burn but because i am running a test each month it would be unfair to to go out of my way to avoid it,but I'm also not going out of my way to cause it.

Great vids. Your 5 month test is revealing, super useful for buyers to know what to expect in real terms. Top screens though, hoping the 65 drops again on Prime day
I think Rtings are also doing some burn test with OLEDS.

I bought this TV a month ago from Richer Sounds. Fantastic TV. Very pleased. This deal is a good price

Ah right, yeah the 6 series were notorious for it. 8 series supposed to be far more resilient (although for me with young kids I still won't risk it)

That my B6 has failed and LG are idiots. Also I did like the brightness of the faulty Q9FN over my B6. My grandad has the B8 and it isn't massively different to my B6 (except his works).
What happened to the days of buying a TV and just switching it on and watching it.All this talk of burn in,hours of usage and documenting evidence is enough to put anyone off buying a tv nowadays!
I just want one that works.
I recommended the B7 to my mate as he said he would only game on it for a few hours at a time. It wasn't his living room TV.

But he moved house recently and it's now his main TV. So I reminded him of the do's and don'ts to make sure he does everything he can to reduce the risk of burn ever happening.

He has a 9yr old daughter and a 3 yr old son so I had to make sure he remembered

Ahh that's fair enough. I'm trying to hunt down a good price for the xf and for me it has chromecast ultra built in meaning I can move mine another device.

Tvs and mobiles are so hard to weigh up at the moment.

I got the Sony a year ago and no regrets (bar their crap smart tv os). No chance of an OLED due to family leaving sky paused etc all the time.

And and I have to say, Sony picture is AMAZING. Really really amazing

Just need to find a good price now. 900 for the 55 seems OK but not great? I've seen refurb 49 for as low as 629....
Any deals nearer £900 with eBay code today ?

Doesn't cover burn in.

OLED doesn't really have problems with burn in, unless you literally watch something with a static red image 20 hours a day for weeks on end.

Have you seen the Panasonic 65" OLED deal from Costco? Just bought one and it's amazing (only downside is lack of Dolby Vision, but it also has more accurate colour settings out of the box and to my eyes better motion handling)

Been looking at oled TVs for a few months and with the prices dropping was tempted to get the 65inch although my 50 inch lg plasma still going strong. Now with the PlayStation 5 in mind hopefully next year and hdmi 2.1 it seems it could be worth holding out for the c9. Anyone else think it's worth waiting?
stanic12/07/2019 12:48

£1049 at mo 😡

I've got it on watch lol. 1049 still means 949 which is slightly better..... Let's hope it at least stays that way.
For anyone interested on the burn in front I hunted down a refurbished 55" E6 (mainly for the 3D) so did a LOT of research before getting it after initially getting a duff one. A few things I picked up :-

Screen Burn
Whilst it's called screen burn think of it as screen wear. Basically the brightness will fade over time with use of the OLED regardless of how you use it. You get noticeable screen burnt areas where that part of the screen has been used more or used to display the same image. What means is effectively watching 5 mins of a new channel with a fixed logo 20 times is the same screen wear as watching it for 60 mins in one go. It's not the same as plasma or CRT where the image had to be stationary for a really long period on a one off to cause screen burn (though I think that is still possible with OLED). It may also wear unevenly if the content you watch is brighter in some areas (e.g. the middle of the screen) than others (e.g. the edges).

Brightness
Basically OLED has a certain lifespan and the brightness seems to reduce the lifespan on a non-linear scale above a certain level. What that means is that the brighter you have the OLED Light set the shorter the life of the TV but above a certain brightness it may drastically shorten the life of your TV and make you far more prone to screen burn. How high you can set it seems to depend on the TV but it's worth researching for your model if you get one. There's also some discussion on the impact of HDR content as this can be much brighter than SDR content.

Sunlight
I've seen some reports that indicate that the panels can be damaged by bright sunlight (even on the back of the TV). I've ordered an outdoor TV cover for mine as it sits right in front of a window and I wanted something to protect it on sunny days without having to keep the blinds closed.

Variability Of Panels
It appears that LG's panels (used for all OLEDs) vary consistently in quality. Roughly speaking from what I've seen the better the panel the less prone it appears to be to image retention and hence screen burn and the longer the life of your TV. The only consistency seems to be is that the manufacturing process is improving so the newer the model the better the panel is likely to be. The reviews on Rtings.com cover this quite well so it's worth reading through their OLED reviews.

I'd emphasise the above is very much what I believe is the case based on my research, if anyone knows better I'm happy to be corrected on anything.

Overall though I hope it helps as I really found it quite tricky to find a good summary of the main issues. Despite all of the above I still got one and I think it's brilliant though I don't play a lot of games, I'm happy having the brightness at 75% and I really thoroughly checked my panel under different colours (yellow, red and magenta) when I got it and for any image retention.

Strange as they refused on my Mrs phone at a Samsung experience store.

Good that you got yours sorted but like i said they don’t advertise a 10 year warranty on their phone screens like they do on their QLED TV’s,which leads me to believe that they don’t offer the same cover, hence why you got yours sorted and my Mrs didn’t.

One member on here ALWAYS posts a link to the 10 year screen burn warranty registration page every time a Samsung QLED deal is posted, again i stand corrected if there is one but i have not seen the same 10 year warranty page for their OLED phones. If there is such a page then i will be marching my wife’s phone back to be fixed for free.
