LG Optimus is FREE at the moment on Orange's £10p/m Dolphin plan, 24months, only 30 minutes, but unlimited texts and 100mb of internet so it's actually not too bad a plan for light users, or just constant texters.

Also £80 potentially through Quidco making it £160, note that the phone itself goes for more than this, so you could even ditch the plan and it'd still be a decent deal.

Not going to follow each post in this thread, so I'll just post what I recently posted in another thread, detailing why WP7 should appeal:

WP7 is very good, needs a lot of time to grow, but very good none the less.
Works far more sleekly than my Desire, and while I do miss the ability to fiddle with everything from the clock speed of the CPU, to the icons on the dock, I'm so happy with the way that WP7 handles everything that I don't really mind.

I've got an iPhone, 3rd gen iPod Touch, HTC Desire running 2.3, a Windows 6 phone, my Omnia 7 running WP7, and a San Francisco, and the Desire and Omnia 7 are my favourites, but what makes the Desire so good, along with the San Fran is just XDA flexing their muscles with it.

Android is still a couple of versions away from complete smoothless unfortunately, give it a year and it'll be near perfect for the majority of consumers, but I can see Microsoft playing catchup hard in the next two years to get themselves into the game, and even now it's easy to see why WP7 will appeal. It's far simpler to use, vastly more intuitive, and due to Microsoft's hardware constraints that probably will only be changed once a year, you'll still have a capable phone in a couple of years.

if WP7 phones are going away for a tenner then its pretty obvious that the operators are trying to clear their stock (probably for the upcoming more profitable devices) and the deal itself is not impressive either as what would you do with a smartphones with only 100mb date allowance

Not true at all, due to Microsoft's hardware requirements, there won't be any new devices atleast until the new update - Mango - is released Q4 this year

Also I found myself using atleast 500mb a month when on Android, which has now shrunk down to about 150mb a month since I started using my Omnia 7, WP7 seems to be far more sensible with managing data.

Also £80 potentially through Quidco

It think it’s only £30 cashback for the lower tariffs; see Quidco

• £30 for Orange 5 and Orange 10 tariff contract sales

EDIT.
On second thoughts I see that those are separate tariffs and thought it just referred to any £5 or £10 tariff.

wm7 phones are yet to grow and I think they won't be succesfull as android is but we will se

Got to say, my optimus 7 is far smoother an dmore intuitive than my android defy. The one feature I prefer on android is swype, I miss that, but otherwise I really like wp7. It just works. Even the wife can use it

I guess you missed my point completely .. Alot of companies are focusing on android OS and new models are coming to market fast and thats why the OLD phones (in this case LG optimus) are going cheap .. look at the upcoming phones list and there is only one WP7 phones

techradar.com/new…333

some companies deliver the product quickly (Like IPAD 2) and some companies are aggresive to show whats in their pocket but cant deliver it to the mkt (like BB Playbook)

But it's like any new product... a glut at launch, thwn nothing.
To be fair, some may also be put of by nokia joining the wp7 party... Nothing like a nice 600lb gorilla to scare 3rd parties off...
And as said above, unless they can bring something new, it's hard to make it worthwhile. MS's hardware specs from day 1 meant that apart from a few headliners, there's not much faster/better out there yet.

But yes, it is an older handset, but if the original desire came in at this price, it'd get red hot...! Me, itried both, preferred wp7, despite it's incredibly annoying lack of turn by turn...

Yes, however the reason why this is happening is because is no software support until 'Mango' is outed that will take advantage of any new hardware, such as the new Qualcomm chips, and the gyroscopes now being featured in phones. This means each new phone will have different flash chips, and larger amounts of RAM, both of which may yield small speed boosts, but nothing noticeable for the consumer, thus there is little point in companies pushing updated models from their catalogue.

I thought the was a problem with WP7 using large amount of data
technologizer.com/201…ch/

great deal. my hd7 has halved my web usage and ive got background twitter, email, weather and bbc news updates all turned on! at 160 this is a no brainer, its the price of a feature phone for something far far better!

will this be available instore too? will only be £7.50 a month if i can get it instore.

Do they allow for upgrades and can you pay all at once on this?

Just an issue with the way that the Yahoo Mail app managed data!

can't seem to find much info about unlocking this phone

100mb for a smartphone. Just been away for 9 days in London and Birmingham. Used 700mb so far this month browsing and google maps etc. Even at £10 a month, could be a costly option of you go over the plan allowance , plus the phone isn't great having read reviews

@ weirdwilli thanks for the info.
think im going to get me one

San Francisco for £70 and a cheap Tesco sim is the best option if you want a mobile phone.

lg have quite a few exclusive apps, dlna functionality is the main exclusive, although hopefully thats coming to everyone with mango.

it all depends on what you want, if youre going to use your phone as a satnav then youre going to need a good data usage, if you mainly use facebook twitter etc theres no way you'll go anywhere near 100mb.

Unlock Codes seem to be available here

its a ridiculously cheap deal for this phone,

depends what you want, thats a budget mobile, this is clearly not. 1ghz processor, etc, theyre very different.

It's coming through as 99.99 for me

Has it changed or am I missing something

Am I reading this wrong? If not, it's expired:

LG Optimus 7 Free on a 24 month £10 a month plan? Seems to good to be true and according to the website it is £399.99 for that phone on that tariff.

Prepared to be flamed if I have the wrong end of the stick!

its in my basket and coming up as free. not sure why ur getting £399.

its still working here

yeah working for me

225 on CEX grade A. on ebay for about the same price, so you can;t sell it for that much. Contract is worth more like 5 quid a month and in a matter of few months the phones cost will drop quick, whereas you still would have to pay 10 quid. But nevertheless it is still hotish deal, although what can u do with 30 mins and 100mb data? And unlocking isnt probably cheap, who knows..

Anyone here got one?
What's the audio quality like for music playback?

bargain, cheers

Says £99 for me.

Just checked, its defo still free on that tariff.

Click on view deal and then just select the LG optimus 7, i went all the way through the check out and it finishes at £10 p/m for 24 months with the phone costing £0.00

Stunning deal. 100MB/month is a bit low though, you'll need to avoid downloading apps from the marketplace over 3G or music from the Zune store. Do Orange offer some sort of aftermarket bolt-on? Or do they charge reasonable amounts for going over data allowance (like Vodafone, £5 for 500MB when you run over)?

The Optimus is an alright phone. It sold like crap, but that's hardly surprising. LG isn't exactly a strong brand in the mobile phone sector, so a phone from them with no standout selling points (i.e. it doesn't have the big screens of the HD7 and Omnia 7 or the 8MP camera of the Mozart) on an emerging platform was never going to be a recipie for success. The dummy units also felt like crap in the hand, really cheaply made. Basically, LG left shoppers with barely any reason to buy this handset. A shame because it was good for the money being asked (could get it for free on £20-£25 tariffs at launch).

Does this phone use a micro usb type charger.
Thanks

Through headphones, totally fine. Similar to an iPod, not as good as the Sansa Clip.
But we are are talking degrees of not much.
The built in speakers however are not great, they are very tinny. But I am not a teenager, so have no need to stand on the bus playing music "tsk tsk tsk tsk bum tsk tsk" irritating other passengers
Damn fine chunky handset, build like a brick sh*t house. Everyone remarks how solid it is.
At this price, its a pretty good deal I'd say. Best addition for me is Zune. I got fed up paying 15-20 quid per month for songs from iTunes, only to like 3/4 tracks after a month. With Zune, I can fill my boots with music, then buy the tracks I like. I absolutely love it for that. (yes, I know you 80 quid SF andoird plebs who bit torrent all your music for nowt don't care, but as a legit person - I sleep at night knowing I am paying artists for their hard work)

Sorry but this just made me LOL

As for the deal, I'll give this a shot, will keep this as a backup phone and I mean the unlimited texts and 100mb data should be enough for a few days use every month when my main phone is dead or something.

So basically, you could get this, unlock it and use a vodafone contract sim in it? Would be great for me as i need a new phone and would save paying loads for a new one, plus would have a back up sim with some mins on it

thanks. Ordered. Topcashback tracked almost immediately at £80.80

yeah, micro-usb is going to be the standard soon so all phones, barring probably the iphone should change to it.

This is a fantastic phone - shaped like a phone - doesn't feel too plastic like the HTC versions of WP7.

The only question you have to ask is WP7 - is it for you. For me it's brilliant - interface is superb and apps list growing very quickly - but lets be honest there are some folk who hate it - no custom ringtones yet - no connection to a hidden wi-fi (and you'll need to use wi-fi with this tariff), can't switch off camera shutter noise, etc, etc. Go check for yourself what is / isn't important.

I love this phone and WP7 - it will only get better
