*****Currys***** WILL price match!

I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for a LG Soundbar SL8 over past week& been reluctant to pay any more than £450.

So I came across this lot this morning selling at £399.99 , I’m thinking no idea who these guys are, is this to much of a good deal to be true??

I’m quite happy based on my thoughts to go to John Lewis or Richer Sounds who are both selling at £449.99. But then I wanted the system today/tomorrow ready for my new 65 inch Oled TV which is being delivered and fitted by AO.Com. Not only that .. I prefer buying from known sources.

On to Currys, if they priced matched? Only Currys could guarantee me the equipment this weekend. Fully up and running in time for the TV delivery.

I contacted Currys see if they’d price match? Thinking they’d say no with a decline of who the F are District Electrical? My back up was to price match JL or Richer Sounds.
To my surprised, Currys called me back an hour later to confirm the would.. £399.99!!!£100 off!! Originally £699.99.

I’ll be honest, the chap I spoke to at first said they could as District Electrical website wasn’t a secure connection ? I pointed out it was as they have a padlock symbol at the start of their web address on the address bar .. mentioning they can’t get any more secure than that.

So if your in the market for a sound bar, you ain’t going get any better than this set up at £399.99. I paid an extra £4 to be delivered Sunday.

Here’s the links to JL & Richer Sounds if that helps?

Going by reviews the atmos speakers are very poor unless you are close to the soundbar
Still very overpriced for just a glorified TV speaker, do ya self a favour and get a Home cinema Receiver and then some decent speakers, all this easily “second hand” for the same price and you’ve got cinema quality surround sound that will blow a “sound bar” away
I think its a better offer damsonglobal.com/hom…let .Price is 319 pounds with 15% discount.

This point will always come up. Some people just prefer the simplistic nature of soundbars. I mean I'd prefer a pair of stereo speakers than a soundbar, but even that's a bit much for some people. That's why there's such a soundbar boom. They are much better than most TV speakers, which is a good thing
Agreed.. but get yourself a pair of rear speakers and you’ve got a 5.1 set up. Ok they retail at £150.. but through my work can get them for £75. Another reason I went for these. Winner all round for me 👏👏👏
The good thing about audio equipment is the second hand prices seem to drop massively, especially on sound bars. I picked up a Samsung HW-N950 for £600 while they were still retailing for £1249 and whilst it’s not as good as a high end 5.1 setup it’s not far off and far simpler

1) where do you get 15% code?
2) reviews aren’t that great.

Old model and not necessarily. Different codec support etc I think
Anyone know about Curry's pricematch? Do they give you a voucher code? Is it time limited?

What codecs does this have over that?

Just checked. DTS:X.

I thought the SK9Y Hi res sampling upto 192Khz, where as this SL8YG goes up to 96Khz, am I missing something?? They both do Atmos & DTS:X & Virtual:X (upmix).

No idea. Been researching sound bars for ages and there is limited consensus.
I'm not into soundbar, just happened to stumble across LG website last week for OLED TV, hence I got those info from LG website. But I still think the SK9Y worth a little extra for 2 more speakers & better audio sampling rate? Anyone with these soundbars may contribute their own experience here.

I am not sure they do. On John Lewis site it specifies only the following supported on SK9. Dolby Digital, Dolby True HD, Dolby Atmos So not DTS X or DTS HD Master
Just look at it again, yeah you're right, but for £400 with the 24bit/96Khz DAC is quite expensive no? Some good deals on here for AV Receivers for around £330 with excellent specs including all the Dolby Atmos stuff and a quality DAC (32bit/384Khz), SACD playback.... etc. I personally prefer Home AV receivers if consider value for money, but that's my own opinion.

Yeah but this applies to almost all soundbar posts tbh. I have an old onkyo separates system that is in need of upgrading. Issue is speakers are poor and placement of fronts are tricky and up being behind tv in narrow space so this suits me quite well. Different strokes for different folks.

If I see this one more time

Most people don't want their TV blasting out 7.1 booming sound while they're watching TV. Soundbars are for simply improving crappy TV speakers, although I definitely wouldn't pay this much.
I got this soundbar it's very good I just want the rears for £75 😁 Marvin
I returned this, wasn't punchy enough for me

What did you get instead?
I kept the current one it was replacing.

I've got all my connections in the wall, when this one had the same power cable as my current unit, I thought I'd directly replace my old unit.

Personally found the bass quite poor.
Update about Currys price match..So you pay the original cost up front then they refund the difference back on to your card. I’ve had an email just now confirming the £100 refund.. So that was a quick turnaround.

Also, it was delivered yesterday and already unpacked and set up to go with the Oled LG 65inch B9 .. also delivered yesterday .. ow that to was a bargain. £1640 AO.com - price match 👏👏

My Christmas came early 🎄

One or two saying about their disappointment in the bass .. for me, the sound quality is immense I’ve tested it out watching a couple of things to test out the Dolby Atmos in full 4K using NETFLIX. ***Tip*** to find Dolby Atmos content in Netflix .. simply go to search & type in Dolby Atmos.. All the stuff will show available to watch in full 4K and Dolby Atmos.

Our planet.. standard!! &!Also.. inside F1 .

Amazing !!

For us it’s perfect for our lay out in Living Room & size of the room.

If you’ve a bigger room.... suggest going up to the SL9 or SL10 versions or some other alternative.

Still can’t wait for the 2 rear speakers to be delivered. .. That’ll be another ball game changer.

Believe I wanted to go for the other 2 models but for me would’ve been a waste of money as wouldn’t have made the most of the extra power.
