Not necessarily a deal, but this has just came in stock on Amazon under their Black Friday offers, it's pretty much identical to the LG GL850 that is pretty much always out of stock with reputable UK retailers. The only issue is it doesn't have USB ports so firmware updates may not be possible?

  • Ips/ 1ms response time
  • 144Hz refresh rate
  • 27-Inch QHD (2560 x 1440) resolution
  • Nvidia G-SYNC compatible/ Adaptive-Sync (FreeSync)
  • Hdr 10

The 27GL850 and 27GL83a share the same panel, freesync scalar, build, ect. The main difference is that the 27GL83a uses a different, cheaper backlight made for sRGB (standard dynamic range content) while the 27GL850 uses a new Quantum Dot-like backlight (called NanoCell IPS.)

Just what I found after a quick search. However, maybe better details on this page rtings.com/mon…0.1

Thanks op, I was after the 27GL850, and tempted by the Acer Nitro deal for the pricing. This sits nicely in the middle so I have pushed the button, great price for a great monitor... Hope it gets some good heat
Will NanoCell make a big difference for gaming? The monitor seems a pretty good price otherwise.
They both get good remarks about them for gaming, if you wanna wait till I get mine I will let you know

Here is a straight up comparison though, very close specs wise.

Good spot! Been waiting for stock of these, both models are extremely hard to get in the UK.

It makes the response rate really fast. Almost TN levels of response.
According to the rtings link above usb connectivity is lacking on this model too if that's important to anyone.

I'm torn between this, the Aorus Ad27qd and the 850. The latter are £100 and £150 more expensive respectively than this deal.

These guys claim they both have the same refresh rate feature of 1ms grey to grey I know nothing personally though

1ms grey to grey is a marketing ploy really, They take best case situations for an excuse to slap it on the box. I have an acer that claims to be 1ms for example but it isn't, it's more 3-4 ms. The nano technology delployed in the LG monitors runs laps around my response time.

They recommend this over the Aorus monitor too... Getting closer to clicking the buy button!
Complete novice...Will this one better the screen I got now (below)..? I don’t really use for gaming but may do in future.

This one in the deal would be much better for gaming, particularly anything fast paced. The one you have will likely look far better in terms of image quality though as 4k resolution at 24" has an insane PPI.

Okay thank you
Very nice. Good find
I pulled the trigger anyway. Ive been using one of those QNIX korean models for years now.
This is a good deal, only worried about the possible lack of firmware updates due to lack of USB connectors.
I did have the 27GL850 on order but cancelled that for this one, they both suffer from poor blacks and contrast so might as well save some cash and get the cheaper version.

Side by side comparison:

Tricky one. The 27GL850 is in stock on the Spanish and German Amazon, costs about £130 more though. I think I'd rather pay more for the USB and the better backlight tech. Thoughts?
Just ordered, fingers crossed it works on Xbox x @ 120hz. I've read the gl850 can.

To be honest I've never cared about updating firmware on a monitor - I don't think that the lack of USB ports is a deal breaker. As for the backlight, is it much worse? Presumably if this wasn't on offer then the price would be closer to the 27GL850?

Probably right yes. £320 is a bit of a bargain for the specs and the comparison seems to show them to be almost identical.

Cheapest price for the 27GL850 is amazon Spain for £450.
Perhaps this NanoCell IPS technology can be improved upon by future firmware updates?

Yes, there could be performance tweaks via a firmware update. But it really depends on how much that is an issue for you. Personally I would buy this whilst it's on offer.

Agreed. I have ordered one. I've been using a Dell TN with 1440p and 144hz for the last few years and have really missed the IPS colours.

I can spend the £130 on other things I enjoy such as Scottish whiskey and cuban cigars.
So reviews indicate that the contrast is pretty average on this monitor. Suggestions that the blacks are more like dark grey

My understanding is that all IPS monitors are like this apart from the top end models that support FALD.

This one seems to be even lower than the typical contrast ratio? I'm presuming that the colour levels make up for the lack of contrast?

I think it's pretty normal to be honest. Their website says 700:1 (Min.), 1000:1 (Typ.).
Weirdly the monitor is advertised as G Sync Compatible but it's not on Nvidia's list (unless I've missed it) - nvidia.com/en-…cs/
Heat added!

Already bought the Acer VG271UP a few days ago, but as this used the same panel as the LG GL850-B, I had to order this. Will compare the two when the LG arrives and likely send the Acer back.

Looks to be out of stock (returning 01/12/2019) at the moment though.

It’s compatible, but not full G-Sync (no hardware module). It still does VRR

Contrast ratio is a bit lower than you’d expect from IPS, reviewers have pointed this out. That being said apparently the black uniformity is pretty good, so it’s got that going for it

Absolutely, I’ll update the post when I have it!

Unfortunately I don’t think I’ve managed to beat the out of stock notice though. Even though I ordered it a good few hours before the notice, it’s still not dispatched

Done lots of review comparisons and the main differences are:
Acer - better colours and contrast ratio
LG - faster response times and better black uniformity (though those blacks while more uniform are less black than the Acer)
I ordered yesterday morning not long after i got the email saying they were now in stock and mine hasn't shipped yet.

Deal's ended on the Acer too now

Snooze:lose.

Still, couple of days to go before Friday, then we've got Cyber Monday week, so I'll keep looking on a daily basis.
