Lidl Argentinian Malbec. Not a bad wine, and a decent grape. Should cellar well for a few years too, if you're that disciplined! Down from £5.99. Rare to find a drinkable red at this price!

Good point! But I'd buy this again!

If only I could get a huge Argentinian steak for the same price to go with it..

Thanks OP, it is nice to lay a few bottles of glug down now & again (seriously)

There is a lot to be said of a tasty wine / year that doesn't break the bank.

Drinking some now, very very nice wine.

If it's anything like Aldi's then this is a scorching deal!

I regularly consume a drinkable red.
It is called Vimto.

Any Malbec under £5 has to be a good deal. Like someone has already mentioned; if it's anything like the Argentinian Malbec from Aldi then this is a cracking deal - heat added.

Great if you like drinking fish blood like all cheap wine this is cheap for a reason.

Jase99, Aldi and Lidl hater, most of his posts are on similar theme. Never shops there but has an opinion on all of their products.

Fish blood!!! I'm no connoisseur, but I know decent drink when I try it! This one is decent. It's certainly not the best wine on Earth, but for this money, it's definitely a good one!

Over 1000 comments and no deals posted ever! Thanks for your contribution to this site!

also if you grab the wine cellar offer case. its four quid off when you buy four. malbec is one of the wine included in the offer.

can pick up a half decent red for under a fiver most of the time from aldi!
if all else fails stick some coke in it and volia sangria !

I've bought this wine a few times - it's decent value at £5.99 and excellent at £4.19 - I'll be stocking up if there's any left.

Sure this wine is probably a bargain but there's no reason why Malbec is superior to any other grape - they all have different characters and do better/worse under different conditions and grown in different locations. Also I had a giggle at the suggestion of cellaring a sub-£5 wine. Even in a properly temperature-controlled environment this is ludicrous. You'll get better results than aging by leaving the bottle open for half an hour before consumption. And what's with the completely off-the-wall "fish blood" comment? The suggestion of drinking it with a steak is good. Argentinian Malbec compliments steak very well. Could go for that myself right now.

Ive recently just started drinking red again after many years ,so im going through a lot of trying different bottles that are cost effective for me.This is going to get a try if i can find it .Oh and have a little heat schall81

ALDI?

Haha no. Oddbins before the business went wrong and all the local branches shut down. Good times working there. RIP almost all the fine, quirky, relatively independent Oddbins shops in the country (cheers to 25% off deals in supermarkets :/).

Wouldn't ever buy Argentinian anything

Oh dear. Hi-jacking a forum thread with what I presume is political posturing, and you don't want to know what I think of your politics. Or maybe you are looking for a pointless argument. Sigh.. time to open some wine.

Probably because of H982 FKL.....

Lidl is my local shop, tried a couple bottles of thier wine and always been disappointed.
Aussie Shiraz is a favorite and only 20% dearer.
Maybe i'll give it a try see how it compares.

Perdona señor, but you are far away from sangria, so far adding coke you have Kalimocho
And no - I am not Spanish

OP - please can you let us know why this should 'cellar well' for a few years? Or are you just trying to sound educated on wine?

Ha ha. I thought the same thing. Most supermarket wines like this are designed to be drunk within 12 months. Putting it in your cellar for years is a waste, it much more likely that it will become corked. So just drink the bleeding stuff!

Dont these have screw tops rather than corks?

If this is oaked, and I don't know if it is, then I will age well over the next 2 or 3 years. I haven't got a cellar full of lidl wine, I don't know a lot about wine either. Just enjoy reading and learning about it and experts say that can be kept for a couple of years and will get better. If it's unoaked then apparently it should be drunk soon, which I did anyway.

Ignore jase99 he's a habitual aldi and lidl hater. All his posts on similar theme whilst ass kissing Tesco and Morrison's, must be a shareholder or employee.
