I'm tempted too, but when I go in store and find that all the bakery products are left open to the elements, left open to people coughing and sneezing all over them, left open to small children picking them up and then putting them back, adults picking them up, dropping them on the floor and then returning them to the display....i think, no thanks i'll pass !
Reminds me of harvester salad bars, well known for content being left out on display far too long and cross contamination.

That’s probably due to me being a bit of a germ-phobe and seeing all sorts of people touching the bakery products.I would only ever go really early in the morning as soon as they open to be honest.

I tend to go for M&S bread when I can, definitely my favourite of the freshly baked bread. Bloody expensive mind

Its good for your immune system!
I'm always so tempted going in Lidl with their bakery selection - a lot better quality than the other supermarkets and a better price to.

In the Lidl's in europe we've been in we've never seen a bakery section without plastic shields on the front of the 'bins' with a pair of tongs attached for taking out the product.

Yes, definitely...unless it isn't.

Best to get there early to avoid the rush.
These are lush
Usually 4 for £1 in Morrisons.

A simple solution, but effective. Yes, some people may leave the plastic shield off/open, but most would recover the goods in consideration for others leaving the goods fresher for longer and less opportunity for people to manhandle the goods and then not purchase them.

Having said that I do wonder whether the tongs/bins in the UK stores ever get cleaned. It certainly doesn't look like it my local store. The same applies to baskets, some of them are absolutely disgusting.
Love toffee yumyums!

Totally agree. At the new Felixstowe store the bakery has flies over the open display as well
Is there a diet version. Need to look good in my Speedos for holidays.

When I went to Lidl in Spain, it was a box that couldn't be opened by customers. There was a tong that was built into the box, you have to push the bread/cake out of the box onto a tray. Much better system, would be nice if they did it in the UK.
I've been using Lidl bakery for a while now never caught anything off anything. I always get from the back always really fresh and yummy

And the good thing is in France Lidl have covered cabinets! And you can't physically put your hand in the case to get the product out! You have to use the tongs provided! French Lidl is so much better than its English Counterpart!

I do like that part as do the kids putting it out of the side so it slides down for them.

Same thing in Spain. UK must be the only one to have it open, no idea why!

They're cleaned every evening after the store closes.
I did see a lovely gentleman in Tesco repeatedly sneezing without cupping his hand to his mouth
I'm going cold turkey on these, it's been 2 days so far...
...that's why this offer came up I'm sure!

Sounds like you should shop in Waitrose... Oh, they have pastries open to the elements too, no pastries for you then eh 😁

I'd imagine that's what they're supposed to do, however the reality is very different. Having been in the store at opening and seeing for myself the disgusting state of the bins and tongs I can assure you that it doesn't happen in my local store.

I do occasionally, they're pecan yums yums are gorgeous if a tad high in price and they are displayed in glass cabinets, not open to the elements

Ok I can't say what happens in your local store if that's the case then you should mention it to staff because the whole bakery should be cleaned after the ship closes.
Lidl Yum yums are better than Waitrose and sainsbugs and asda. Fact 🐽(y)

Must be different from store to store then as the Bedford Waitrose isn't like that they're open. I found Waitrose yum yums to be disappointing.
