NB. The deal link is to the German site because its not on the UK LIDL site yet, but is available in store. The image / branding is the same though.

I know this is not a "deal" in itself as its the standard price, but in the context of a rebadged Islay malt I think its a no brainer - its a single malt so has to be from one of the 7 on the island. I picked up a bottle today and have yet to pin down which of the 7 distilleries its from (not laphroaig), but shall test in some depth tonight

At this price its about £7 cheaper than you'd normally see for a bottle of Islay malt, plus Lidl occasionally do coupons so might get it cheaper with your messages.

Based on the company on the bottle it seems to be by the Whyte & Mackay group. They don't appear to own an Islay distillery though, so it's not immediately obvious which it's from. Have seen Bowmore suggested, but not with any actual evidence.

Personally I'd prefer something with a defined age (anything that just says "whisky" can have components as young as 3 years), but you can't ask too much at this price.
I have just finished a bottle of this, not Laphroaig 10 class but still a very drinkable dram. For me, better than Laphroaig Select.

Agree just sitting with a glass of this now. Lacks the refinement of a more expensive brand and feels a bit thin in terms of mouth feel. still quite drinkable though and more enjoyable than a Johnnie Walker for the same price. Be interested to see what others think as very little on the web about this.
Getting great reviews from some top whisky reviewers
I got a bottle of the 22 year old for £44.99, lovely dram. Rumours seem to think it's probably a Bowmore.

As said it's got to be one of them, they're all excellent, I'd bet money on a Caol Ila myself as they have the most production capacity.

Will grab a bottle of this

No, i not like a laphroaig, the peatiness isn't there. It doesn't have the feel of a caol ila either, i'm leaning towards bowmore, but i might be off the mark. further testing required

Its actually Tamnavulin in disguise and NOT anything to do with Islay

Any sources to corroborate this? I was thinking scotch has effective doc or protected status, but not sure about regions ie highland, Islay etc. Would have thought this would have been frowned upon tho
