Lidl is clearing out their stock of the Christmas Wine Cellar wines all at £3.99, for example 2015 Chateau Menota Sauternes.which was £9.99.

A very random selection based on the two stores I visited.

Bought a bottle of this before Christmas, so paid full price for it. Generally you only get Sauternes in half bottles, so was a little surprised to see a full bottle size, especially at £9.99. Tbh I wouldn't even buy it at £3.99 again. Didn't taste like any Sauternes I've had before. Had an almost chemical taste. How I would imagine it would be like drinking floor cleaner! Each to their own, but no thanks.

The Wotwine? app doesn't rate it; it said of the 2015 vintage: "Simple, uninspiring wine with sugary sweetness and some bitter marmalade character" and thought it worth only £8.00 compared with the normal price of £9.99. My experience with Lidl "Wine Cellar" wines is to focus on the less well-known, less prestigious appellations which have turned out to be very good value for money.

By contrast, Aldi's prestigious wines tend to be more expensive (unless they're reduced to clearance prices), but are of the expected quality for their respective appellations.

I think occasionally you find a little gem at Lidls, but certainly not this time.

Ours still had some Trockenbeerenauslese ( decanter.com/rev…15/ ) in, so we picked up another bottle, the last bottle of Haute-Côtes de Nuits, and a bottle of Clevigny Arbois Réserve as a wildcard. I'm expecting good things particularly from the first of these!

WOW! Wish ours had some trockenbeerenauslese. Love this, and Eiswein......Infact pretty much all of them, from Spätlese right through to Eiswein. Don't have many local places that stock German, or other pudding types wines. Which is a great shame. Probably why I have been drinking more Port these days, as it's easy to acquire. Thanks for the info, will have a look just in case they have any.

We enjoyed Lidl's Monbazillac and Pacherenc do Vic-Bilh sweet wines previously. We've also got bottles of Maury and Añejo from their pre-Xmas selection.

We keep meaning to try a Maury, but don't seem to get as much time as we would like to try new things. Having said that, I've just acquired a nice bottle of Mission Hill Vidal Icewine 1998. REALLY looking forward to that one.

We picked up a Pillitteri Estates Vidal Ice Wine from Lidl back in 2015 for just under £15. I was quite pleasantly surprised to see exactly the same one in Harvey Nichols for over double that price...

Hahahahaha, touché, and me too. :-)

I was in Ilford Lidl Store earlier on on Tuesday (earlier last night, etc), and they appeared to have a few of some of those wine makes/brands, that some of you above lot spoke of .....

Lidl outlet in Lincoln (called Bargain Base) sells that ice wine for £5 per bottle.

That's an amazing price for icewine. If that was local to me, I would buy up the lot!
