Can't see why you'd buy a SilverCrest from Lidl when you can buy a proper brand name player (eg a Philips http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9368523.htm) for the same money.

Hmm, perhaps because the cheap branded ones are the same guts as the cheapest of the supermarket brands, with various features disabled, and with two years less warranty?

Depends on the models in question, but typically things like playback of photos/MP3s, playback from DVD+R and/or DVD-R, playback of video files from the memory card and so on. Essentially, anything that might possibly be as a result of the user infringing copyright, it seems.
