Lidl will have these on sale from this coming Thursday 23rd June, usually sell out within 2-3 days.

I used to have a Bosch Orbital Sander, cracking tool used it many times on full house repaints for my children (Nuisances) it eventually bit the dust, (LOL) the one thing I didn't like was the cost of the sanding discs used to be about a £4 for 6.
I bought a Parkside Orbital Sander 3 Years ago for about £15, slightly bigger then the Bosch and a bit heavier, better Design (IMHO), its done 3 house repaints, another cracking tool, a lot cheaper then the £50 for a Bosch and the sanding discs are usually £3 for a pack of mixed 30 discs YES THIRTY, that makes a BIG difference to the cost of using one of these.

She *may* be wearing eye protection, but she'll ruin her back leaning forward like that, because she's not wearing plugs or ear defenders she will end up stone deaf and have constant tinnitus from excessive noise, also end up in hospital with respiratory disease because she's not wearing a mask! Which type would be better suited to sanding down freshly plastered walls?

As far as I am aware you should not have to sand down newly plastered walls, unless they have not been plastered/skimmed properly. Ask the plasterer who did the work, if I had to I would use the random orbital (oblong) with the finest grade sheets and do it VERY lightly.

I have this sander, bought last time these were on offer at Lidl.
For the price, it's a good piece of kit, but I do find it lacking in power sometimes from the 400W model I used previously. Additionally, the lack of any variable speed can be a bit frustrating at times, but again, for the price, I don't feel as though that's a massive grievance.
As anyone who may have read my most recent posts on Parkside Impact Drivers, Sabre Saws and the like, I'm a big fan of Lidl's tool offerings on the whole. This has probably the one that has lived up least to my high expectations, but again, it's £17!

I went to my local Lidl to purchase 3 packs of discs and could not understand why they are selling the sanders but no sanding discs/sheets, even the store manager was puzzled. I have contacted Lidl to find out when they will next be on sale but have not yet received a reply.

The one that you've linked to is more powerful and has variable speed.
As I've mentioned, these are both things that I miss in the Lidl one that I have in a more expensive model.

However, the Lidl sander *is* significantly cheaper, so still represents good value for money I feel.

I have a Bosch random orbital sander (pex 220) and the pad on mine is knackered now, won't hold Velcro discs and they fly off, so i use spray adhesive and stick them on, it's so much better, can now buy a pack of sandpaper and get 30 odd discs for £1! Just a heads up if anyone else has a problem with Velcro discs! I never paid anywhere close to £4 for 6 discs though, you might want to try Amazon for a brand like silverline.

Both, oblong for large flat areas, round for detail.

This random orbital sander is round.

this might be a dumb question. isn't the round one not the random orbital sander and the square based one the orbital sander?

Thanks for the response. I think the extra power and variable speed are worth the extra £7 and gives flexibility. I will return the Lidl one even though it does come with a 3 year warranty as opposed to 1 year. Voted hot all the same.

I'd wait for the plaster to set first!

All joking aside, other contributors have hit it on the nail saying that newly plasted walls should be flat uinless they've been done badly!

For large supposedly flat-ish surfaces, something like this would be a lot better (but isn't on offer, shop around!)

The "square" sander is a bog-standard "third of a sheet sheet" job, the round one may be harder to find replacements

LIDL (and ALDI) tend to sell very generic kit, so the overwhelming probability is they follow "industry standard" so almost any third party products that look broadly similar will do.
