Hi,

Not seen this anywhere but thought it might be useful to some people.

Halfords auto centres are offering free brake pad and shoes for the life.

You only have to purchase once....

"This unique offer is transferable to all future cars you own - saving the average driver £1,600 over their driving lifetime!"

Could be a nice saving. Even if you change your car in the future...

For £50 I'll do mine myself.

What's the catch?

Probably tell you that you need new discs each time you replace them

Catch is they have to do all the work on your brakes to keep the warrenty. Cost's so much to get new disks which end up being poor quality and fitted by morons. Had mine done last year wont be going back ever again

pretty much they also won't replace the pad's until they are on the limit which isn't great could have shocking braking and you will have to wait for the sake of £20 pads.

This without doubt

I see what the catch is now.

they are not honest mechanics was told need £1500 worth repairing on my £2000 worth Mazda for mot took it to another place got it done in £35 with one advisory of caliper

Only Pad's have to pay for disks when they need replacing

Was told £900 worth of work needed doing after 16 problems were found on their 'free' 15 point safety check but few weeks later only failed mot on 1 item and 2 small advisories from a different garage.

You can pass an MOT and still have things that are wrong with your car.
However 16 things does sound like a stretch. oO

Just go for the pads every time and don't let them do anything else. Just like all tyre/exhaust/brake places they have targets and will lie and try to rob you blind if you let them. Change the disks yourself straight after they do the pads about every fith time and you can just keep taking it back. This would save you some money if you do a lot of miles, I'm tempted but I like to use mintex pads and halfords use another brand. Might see what they charge tho.

Brakes are for wimps , I just use the car in front to stop ... Pffffffff

T&C's say that work completed on the brakes need to be done by halfords think they won't honour the life time pads if you replace the disks yourself or go elsewhere

X)

Took "advantage" of the same offer as this 18 years ago with Kwikfit.Made sure I changed the discs myself a few weeks before getting the pads replaced for free as they were going to charge the earth to change the discs if they got below a minimum thickness.
They queried the new discs and tried to get out of changing the pads.Eventually they did change the pads free but not wortb the chew.
Only use ceramic pads now to help keep the wheels clean and the little dust/grime there is easily wipes off and no fade even with the Nitrous and Methanol both switched on.
By the way ceramic pads last about 6 times longer too ,no fade, little dust.

And how are they going to know or prove you've changed the disks?
