Outraged Daily Mail readers adore them, really gets their juices going.

Thing is whilst the fire risk is overstated, if they are used properly, and the livestock risk minimal, as long as they are the non-wire type, surely sending these off is not unlike driving down the road and chucking your chip papers out of the window?

These DO ACTUALLY contain wire which gets shredded when hay is made and can kill cows etc, there are wire-free sky lanterns around now that avoid this, in fact all lantern manufacturers received a letter from UK trading standards recommending that they stop selling sky lanterns that contain wire a month or so ago, it seems that these people are dumping their stock of wire lanterns rather than destroying them.
