very environmentally friendly.......

What is it with all the tree hugging, soya eating, fox loving people on this forum?! No offence cause I'm obviously the new boy and all but, it seems someone trys to have a dig on this at every chance, then votes cold? Eh.

"I've had one of these running for over a year on virgin broadband with no problems. I also set one up for my folks on BT broadband a few months back and they've had no issues"

to save the environment you could always turn this off!

the post is about bargains and this one is hot (leaves self wide open for reply)

Thanks for the invite. I'm no tree hugger. You can get energy savers from ikea for peanuts and pocket the cash you save in electricity. As regards my router, this comes with a plug which can be turned off when not in use, also saving money. Genius I know

If I'm not mistaken, these lightbulbs were rated well in a Which? test. Voted hot!

You will always get someone who misses the point of HDUK forum:whistling: Great find, they can keep there candles or whatever else they use:thumbsup:

it's a bargain bulb but it's not a bargain to run bearing in mind that the energy saving equivalent runs at 9w...never vote cold but I'd rather have 2 of the Philips energy bulbs at Morrisons for 99p.

I wouldn't use these myself, but great find anyway! Voted Hot!

great price.

to you too.

Not everyone agrees with the green partys, this so called global warming is just another scam to keep ripping us off with high prices.
Cheap bulbs voted hot

save the planet, use energy saving light bulbs.

save your 2ps you can get energy savers free.

Those energy saving bulbs look dog ugly so until they sort them out I'm not going anywhere near them.

Great find. Voted Hot. Thanks!

No way I am queueing up for 20 minutes behind some ***** with 6 kids to spend 2p on a lightbulb!

Defo a bargain, but I prefer my Philips energy saving bulbs from Asdas that were 50p each (mispriced I think). More of a bargain when you think it will save you about £30 a year on the elecy!

Free energy-saving bulbs in this offer, Sorry but voting cold due to the fact that I believe there are better options out there (and free ones as above!).

I applied for this last year, and never received anything.

Yes, a bargain. Just like those Lexmark printers that cost £30 for the hardware then £30 for each ink refill
It's a false economy i'm afraid, the smart money always backs the energy savers that give you 60w of light for the price of 11. Nothing to do with treehugging, everything to do with saving money.

Hahaha because their ugly. Give me a break.

It is a very good price for normal bulbs. I find them useful for lights that are on and off continuously, like in the bathroom. It actually costs more to switch on an energy saving bulb than it does to run it, due to the ignition of the gases.

So yes, hot.

is that a fact?

I am not a tree hugger, - just chopped a big tree in the garden -
just want to save money on electricity.

oh yeah... i cycle to work as well-- and that to save on petrol.

They are cheap because they need to get rid of their stock before they become illegal in a couple of years as proposed. These are already illegal in Australia.

Some people spend a lot of money on nice light fittings, would you really then want to go put a god ugly light bulb in it?

They have a point...

I'm afraid this is simply not the case, though it is a common myth :-

I agree, 2p may seem like a bargain but the energy saving bulbs will save far more money in the long run. Not really a bargain at all, and yes they are all going to become illegal anyway!

Sadly not on offer at Sainsbury's online (where I shop). Still a great price - thanks!

They are not going to be illegal just manufacturers wont sell them as they are switching to low energy.
By the way the sainsburys bulbs were voted best value in Which magazine before this bargain.

Anyway I will be down in the ghettos PSSSSSS mate want to buy a light bulb - I am stocking up when they become illegal just imagine how much they will cost in the black market. Get a life guys dont believe everything u read

Thanks for that. Granted it may not be straightforward, but that article makes no sense. It's incredibly poorly written and ends up asserting something it doesn't actually say. The longevity bit, for example, proves precisely nothing. I still think incandescent bulbs have a lower startup cost and a higher power cycle number.

They are not going to be illegal

They are in Australia and California. I seem to think Scandanavia is also following suit. Other US states will follow, as will we.

Nice. Can't be bothered to go get any but thanks for the heads up on the discontinuation of the things. Maybe i'm unique but those energy saving bulbs really give me bad eyestrain due to their low output. Oh and they ARE damn ugly.

and who would have thought a 2p lightbulb would cause such a heated debate?

Thankyou - good for my dimmer lights - energy saving ones can't be used with dimmer switches!

I'd just like to back up the person who said that the "cost more to turn on" thing is a myth.

It may have been true of those big long tube bulbs that you have in schools and old kitchens, the ones with the starter motor things, but it's just not true regarding modern Compact Fluorescent bulbs.

And to the person who said they don't put out the same light, again thats not exactly true either, you may just need to choose a brighter version of that bulb. It's like someone saying that "these traditional bulbs are no good, 40w strains my eyes" when actually they need a 60w or 100w bulb. And regarding the ugliness factor, firstly I can't remember the last time i sat staring at a lightbulb for entertainment, but if it matters that much there are plenty of energy friendly "bulb shape" ones that look more like traditional light bulbs

Anyway, hopefully LED bulbs will come down in price soon enough, then we can all switch to those.
