Arrow Films are re-releasing "Withnail and I". 2000 limited edition "Custom Designed" copies and 2000 limited edition general copies.

The Custom Designed copies are available today only - runs out at midnight for publishing.

It's a new, better, print of the movie, lots of new extras, blu-ray and dvd of both this film and Bruce Robinson's "How to get Ahead in Advertising". All lovingly presented in a box you can (semi) design yourself!

This won't be for everyone, but "Withnail and I" is my favourite film, and Writer/Director Bruce Robinson is the one that made me want to be a filmmaker (www.btsoth.co.uk).

Newly restored in 2K resolution, this special release includes new and classic archive interviews, a 200-page coffee table book with rarely seen behind-the-scenes images, various articles on the film from critics and those who made it as well as personalised packaging for a truly unique edition.

*New 2K restoration of WITHNAIL and I from the original camera negative, supervised and approved by director of photography Peter Hannan
*Bruce Robinson’s follow-up feature, How to Get Ahead in Advertising, newly transferred from original film elements and approved by director of photography Peter Hannan

*Original uncompressed mono 1.0 PCM audio for both films
*Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing
*Audio commentary by writer-director Bruce Robinson
*Audio commentary by critic and writer Kevin Jackson, author of the BFI Modern Classic on WITHNAIL and I
*All four original ‘Withnail Weekend’ documentaries, first screened on Channel 4 in 1999, including The Peculiar Memories of Bruce Robinson, which looks at the director’s career, Withnail & Us, which focuses on the film’s making, and two shorter documentaries, I Demand to Have Some Booze and Withnail on the Pier
*Newly filmed interviews with key members of WITHNAIL and I’s behind-the-scenes team
*Theatrical trailers for both films
*Exclusive limited edition hardback book packaging (2,000 copies) containing new writing on the films, reprints of key articles on WITHNAIL and I, deleted scenes and more across 200 pages, illustrated with original production stills

I adore this film! Has so many quotable scenes. I swear Russell Brand took his fashion style from the drug dealer!

Finally Withnail gets a new transfer!
Will it be getting a standard release?

It's my fav! I expect this to go freezing cold (£50 for an older movie). The limited number of custom boxes though, with new extras and a brand new digital print from Arrow is brilliant. For me, it's brilliant.

Yes, it is getting a small release next month - probably just art house cinemas. I've seen some clips of the new transfer and it is staggeringly good.

Yep. You've got until tonight.

Don't see this having much resale value (_;)

In the last 25 minutes not one of the three remaining designs has sold.

Perhaps it has a very limited first sale market too.

It might just be that they're not quick on updating the totals..............

You can order this from other places and save a tenner, it just won't be personalised. Personally, I'm just gonna wait for a price-drop on the regular set and pick that up. No way am I spending more than £20 on it though!

Wise. I did post the link to the cheapest place to get the non-personalised version, but it was twice removed by mods. The site with the cheapest price being banned by HUKD (I must be out of the loop as to why).

I like that Arrow Video are taking risks with some of their sets, but seriously, is there even any demand for a deluxe edition of Withnail & I?

I remember getting the steelbook blu-ray that Studio Canal put out for less than £5 some months back, no amount of exclusive extras or better transferring is going to convince me to double dip either.

I think I saw it cheapest on Zavvi for £38.99 or Amazon for £39.63.

I specifically didn't get the StudioCanal disc because it's reportedly a terrible transfer - so not even worth a fiver in my opinion. Arrow have access to the master prints via HandMade Films, and if anyone else saw their treatment with Time Bandits they'll know this will be the definitive release of this film. I think it's a case of too many fans getting hyped for the release and Arrow misjudging it as being in high demand and going for something too deluxe. As I said, I'd pay £20 max for this film - it's indeed a great British film, but not worth the same price I just paid for 18 of Werner Herzog's films/shorts remastered (for example), or 6 of Jim Jarmusch's.

Yep, I put down the Z_ _ _ _ price. Twice. Deleted both times. Not that it matters.

All sold out now anyway.

The smart investor would have asked for Richard E. Grant or Paul McGann's name to be on the box.
