Yeah, i'm the same as you. Much prefer the rosemary and red onion sausages.

Gotta say as someone who does love meat and having gone vegan from April this year, Linda McCartney stuff is amazing. Not sure if these are vegan but vegan sausage rolls, my friend couldn't tell the difference between the meat and the vegan one.

Beef roast with red wine & shallot glaze
Veggie country pies

Just to name a few. Quorn fishless fingers, so many alternatives now and they taste great

Only a quid, I bet that there's not much meat in them !

I believe there's not much meat in many 'value' supermarket meat products either- isn't it all mostly mechanically recovered muscle tissue etc, probably more meat content in cat food.

Either way, I've never liked meat, and I prefer the Red Onion version to these, which I suspect is trying to mimic the texture of meat, but I'm clueless to what that's all about. Also their Veggie burger tastes strange, but the Spinach burger is ok.

Heron doing the sausage rolls for £1 as well.

The Red Onion & Rosemary version of these [sadly not on sale] is indeed an excellent meat replacement.
Tried the normal ones but found them precisely average. I couldn't really be persuaded to buy them again.

Why do vegetarians want their food to look or taste like meat?

Most vegetarians don't avoid meat because they do not like the taste Plus you'll find many carnivores enjoy these so for the manufacturer its a whole different market they're hitting.

All the taste with none of the cruelty/slaughter perhaps?

I've never really eaten much meat, only when I was a child, so I wouldn't know what taste I was trying to recapture/substitute. A lot of veggie meat produce is to cater to the 'now off meat for health/ethic reasons' former meat eaters who were scared of the thought of stuffing their faces with strange soya/mushroom-based food.

I'm aware some products have a meat 'like' texture, and these tend to be the ones I don't like, or I avoid such things as veggie 'salami' because I never missed it anyway.
