How does this stack up up against the
WD TV Media Player?

i would say the main difference to me is that the KiSS is a streaming designed media player, so would connect your home network, by the looks wirelessly, and gets its data from any devices connected to that network.

Where as the WD TV uses two USB ports for mainly external type hard drives so really its more stand alone...I personally because I have a server with all my music, vids, films, etc on would rather go the the KiSS

I hope this answers your question.

The WD plays back files much better, these aren't that great, athough these do have network, DVD and more functions on the remote. If you can afford it buy a TViX M6500A, best £300 I ever spent

Thanks,both of you

These were £59.99 at ebuyer a few weeks back. They have gone up but are £77.99 which is still about £8 cheaper than BT shop/Dabs.

Staff were self-promoting which is against HUKD policy.

These were £50 at Maplins a few months ago.
The hardware is pretty impressive, but it is all let down by bad firmware (see ]linksys forums)
Linksys seem to have completely given up on the product.
A few annoyances
1) Never really turns off (which annoys my TV which always switches over to that HDMI input)
2) Almost impossible to encode any hidef files to play on it (though the upscaling of divx/dvd's is pretty good)
3) The online aspect seems to have almost died at birth (using KML instead of html may be great for hotels that can afford to create a custom service their units, but it would be too much effort to do for yourself).
4) Often when I turn the unit 'off' and on it upsets the tv so much I have to turn off the TV to watch anything
5) Often freezes during fastforward or GoToTime and counts to 100 (about 20-30 seconds) before it continues (understandable when accessing files on a server but maddening when the file is on a DVD)
6) When you set up the MissMac/Kiss-Link software to serve media from your computer, the protocol doesn't seem the same and any others so you can't access the content using any client software on a computer.
Some good points
a) can serve files to it from your computer (wired or wirelessly)
b) shows full filename not just a 8.3-type misrepresentation

I bought for £50 so I'm not too bothered, but if I paid any more I'd probably prefer a WD HD Tv box which couldn't access files on a server but could play mkv and avchd (from my camcorder), or even a PS3 which could do all of these and more.

Very sneaky and stupid of ebuyer to stoop so low :x

i have 2 pinnicle show centers (200 model)
and love them,
am looking to upgrade them at some point
avi's stream brillaint and supports up to 1080i too via component
so if this one aint for you try a show center
think the latest one is a 200 hd or 250 hd
sure i seen the 200 the other week for around the same price around the £80 mark

Having dealt with ebuyer 'customer service' before this kind of action is entirely par for the course...

wouldn't expect that from ebuyer, I've always had a good service with them and never had to resort to calling their customer service.

Same here. I think internal politics is to blame personally ;-). ]Here is the thread discussing the recent banning of Ebuyer

Picked one up in PC world Hereford today, marked up as £69 but went through till at £49.
