Thanks whoever fixed the price, shipping estimated at £0 at first so didn't realise that once you put a postcode in it updates. Still cheapest deal with the case that I am aware of though

You are welcome, had been trying to post that I had but interwebz played games with me

was worried the trade in was going to be quite restrictive. but requirement seems to be only that it's 7" and over, and working. no makes/models/OS's specified..... may be time to trade in that playbook.

mind you, are we sure the linx itself qualifies. just want to be sure as the offer details the SKUs quite specifically (7 8 and 10).
this is 10B,presumably because of the included keyboard and could conceivably not count similar to how the terms deny cashback if bought with a discount.

may be worth checking with insight and/or linx first?

(not wanting to be pessimistic, but having been caught out on intricacies of cashback deals before, thought i'd voice a concern if it avoids trouble later)

PS, you forgot to mention includes 1yr subscription to office365, which is handy.

Read this.

As someone posted in another thread on these, the terms on their website do not restrict too much despite what they emailed me, but cashback is one of those things that is never guaranteed, so tread carefully.

thanks for that - your list shows 'RM' as a manufacturer, never heard of them, suppose it's RIM?

RM = Research Machines I believe, big seller to educational institutions.

£160 at Amazon but no keyboard:
amazon.co.uk/dp/…c=1

Claim for trade in must be made within 14 days of date of invoice. Could be a problem if, like Amazon, they are not in stock but date sale from date of order not receipt of goods. It would mean you were past the 14 days and could not claim trade in value.

Still not sure Nige, was that an authoritative list do you think or just a general reply from someone at linx? The tradein is being run by a different company and can't see them getting away with such an open set of terms that then they turn round later and say they won't accept a certain make.

I sent the email to the contact listed on the trade-in website specifically after clarification on if I can send in an old generic tablet. However, the more I read the list and the comment after it the more I wonder if that is more of a guide list. I mean it sounds like a final 'this is all that is accepted' list but then the last two sentences suggests not "Your tablet will also be accepted as long as its display is working and it is not cracked/split/damaged."

I have re-emailed for clarification asking if a Blackberry Playbook would be accepted and if an early first gen Android tablet that still functions would be accepted.
Edited by: "nige182" 2nd Nov 2014

I too thought the same with the "Your tablet will also be accepted as long..."

I can't seem to find anything in the Ts and Cs about the tablet used as the trade in other than 7" diagonal or greater and working i.e. no details about it having to be a specific make. Can somebody please point me to the page saying it has to be a specific make? Thanks

There is nothing in the Ts and Cs on the website, but as the website is incredibly vague, I emailed them and got the list as a response.

Yes, you can quite correctly argue that the Ts and Cs do not mention this and they have to accept any tablet, but as cashback is not guaranteed and they can amend or withdraw the offer, you have very little standing to get them to honour it if they don't want to.

I have asked them to clarify if a Blackberry Playbook (not on the list) will be accepted but they have not responded.

Yes, I have posted this in a couple of the threads for these:

I have had a further confirmation of the accepted tablets. Only those manufacturers on the list provided are accepted, but it can be any age, at least 7 inches and functional.

Thank you for you reply,Blackberry tablets and tablets from manufacturers … Thank you for you reply,Blackberry tablets and tablets from manufacturers excluded from the list provided previously are unfortunately not qualifying for trade-in.There is no restriction on the age of the tablet as long as it has a dimension is 7" or above, and is undamaged, powers on and has a working display.

This means the cashback is a complete no go for me.

thanks for your efforts, a bit disingenuous on their part to just say 7" tablet in the published t&c ( also, considering some of the obscure makes and frankly poor tabs listed in their email to you, baffling)

Agreed, it has meant I am not buying just yet, I will wait to see what else comes out by the new year and then consider if I get one.

Surely as the T&Cs in the offer only say 7" or greater and working, they can't possibly refuse your tablet if it isn't on their secret list!

Cashback is never guaranteed, one of the key rules of HUKD. It will no doubt say in their terms that they can amend or remove the offer at any time. Though I completely agree they should honour it, good luck to anyone who tries with a tablet not on the list.

The bizarre thing is, there is no kindle fire on their list.

may be worth pointing out the significant buying power of hukd and point them to the incredible heat attracted to the playbook when it was on sale. may give them an idea of potential sales if they restate the policy.

The strange thing is, the list of accepted brands of tablet was on the website a few days ago, now it is impossible to find. I wonder if they have changed their minds? If there's a 'secret list' but not stated anywhere then how can they refuse a tablet that;s not on that list without an awful lot of hassle?

IMHO, it would be worth printing out a copy of the website at the time of ordering to ensure they don't change something later.

I bypassed the guys administering the offer and got in touch yesterday … I bypassed the guys administering the offer and got in touch yesterday with the manager of mobile devices at Exertis (Linx), pointing out the number of owners of devices such as the playbook on this site who were about due for a new device, and that they probably were missing out on a few sales because of the hidden list.... Got an instant response saying he'd take it up with the trade-up company (presumably prompting the earlier note), and a follow up a few hours ago that they were about to update the terms. The T&C still isn't clear on the matter (it always looked as if you could trade any 7" in), though they have updated the claim form, so I'd held off posting about it until it was clear. just this moment got an email saying it will be looked into and will keep you updated. Sometimes, all you need to do is ask

There was never a list on the t&c as far as we know, that was the whole point of correspondence (see Nige's posts and links) as the acceptable list was only found by asking them what qualified due to the t&c being very open. (then the ensuing "but the t&c says it just needs to be 7" ... "yes, but they have emailed a list clarifying that"....)

Anyway, just for completeness - copy of my post on another Deal for the 7" (tldnr There are now no restrictions) :

Edited by: "tapi" 13th Nov 2014

just for info as i cant post this as a new deal (very appear to be banned from this site > Very are currently offering it at £159 plus postage of around £3 - (i dont think it includes the keyboard) plus 9 months interest free credit.

i have a £25 voucher so im just being tempted (i dont have a tablet to part exchange so cashback deal doesnt apply to me and i dont think very are part of the deal re-sellers)

There was definitely a list, another user in a different thread also saw it. There's no point in quoting miles of the current T&C's as I've already said it's not there anymore. Doh...

if you look at the pics in these 2 links "no", the usb is on the left when your looking at the screen, and the KY connects by the looks of it by one of those magnetic links like the playbook in the dock

yup, the keyboard is connected by sprung 'pogo pins'.
They're a standard fit across a range of tablets, so also may find future accessories (the keyboard isn't unique to the linx for example) and if some of the pins were for power and able to charge in a dock like the playbook then that would be great. I haven't been able to find a pin diagram anywhere though.

Thanks for that was not sure if the connectors were the same or the name of them, but yes would be great if you could charge via that connector, I have tried looking but the info is so sparse

If there is no list of makes of tablets of what you can trade up , and then they refuse to accept your tradeup tablet because your tablet is not on there list then it makes there terms an conditions void! As they have not been open with there terms, also the terms do not explain if the price you paid for your new linx would make a difference to whether you can trade up, I notice that most of the sellers they have mentioned have sale prices on these items, which is why I purchased mine, staples £79.99 for a 10" then take of the £50 = £29.99 after I have sent back my tadeup.Anyone had problems for any of the reasons above?
