Of course I don't know what I'm talking about. That's why I asked the question.
Not sure what World some people live. 200 pounds. What do you expect? It seems very good for the price IMHO. If I were looking for a cheap light laptop for browsing this would be on top of my list. Nice one OP

Is it a good idea to remove WIndows off these low spec laptops and put Linux on them?

All sorts of problems with these Linx laptops, particularly WiFi connection / drop out problems.

Would strongly advise people to read the previous HUKD threads on this laptop before buying...

It is low spec by today's standard, but not really that slow. It's N4200 is equivalent to a i3/i5 4XXXU and even though they are a few years old and the ultra low voltage ones, they are still capable. Certainly able to handle Windows and any normal tasks.
Picard1237 m ago

One one USB port? And USB2.0 only?Is this 2018 or 2006?

Think you'll find it's one usb 3 and one usb 2.

I agree with you that its fine for Windows and basic every day tasks but you're well, well wide of the mark saying its comparable to a Haswell i5. That CPU would just blow this N4200 out of the water and then some. I used to have a Y50-70 with a Haswell i5 and that range includes CPUs with clock speeds over 3GHZ, 47W parts etc.

Going by benchmark scoress it is on par with the U version of something like the i5 4200U

Is this a better laptop? http://www.argos.co.uk/product/7365487 Thanks

Yes, it's an excellent laptop, if you can find one new.
Best place is Argos refurbished.

So you don't by anything "sold by a supermarket"?

I wonder where he gets his food shop from
Good find - important spec where it counts (display and chassis).

Some people won’t be satisfied with anything unless it’s an i7 with discrete GPU, after all it’s fashionable to hate on the Atoms and Celerons (which these days are fine for general productivity usage). It’s a shame still being stuck in the early 2000s, but you won’t change that narrow minded opinion...

The 4310U has a base clock of 2.0Ghz and turbos up to 3.0Ghz. In Passmark, 3DMark etc, the i5 on average offers almost twice the performance:

cpuboss.com/cpu…10U

It claws back some ground in multi-core / multi-threaded applications, but nobody's really going to buy a laptop like this for any sort of heavy duty work.

browser.geekbench.com/gee…ore

In the real world, the performance isn't even close.

I think the selling point for this laptop is mainly the 14 inch portable lighter weight form factor and the IPS full HD screen (which looks very nice on the YT review). Shame about the CPU and the 4GB RAM, but very sufficient for basic computing tasks, just don't expect too much. Can't really complain for the price though. Looks great to carry about for like holidays. I am tempted but don't need one so gonna resist. Voted hot

This is really what it's aimed for or people who need a lightweight laptop for mobile working - I just think people on this site lose track of reality and think everyone needs the fastest thing possible at all times... you really don't. When editing some Word documents, flicking through spreadsheets in Excel or researching on the internet, machines like this are literally perfect and they are so efficient the battery lasts ages.

I would get one for a holiday machine but ended up with a cheap Dell E7440 ultrabook which will serve the same purpose as this. 4GB of RAM and 64GB solid-state storage is actually fine, I mean, you can get by with 2GB RAM and even 1GB is manageable with a bit of patience. The days of Vista and poor memory management are long behind us, Windows 10 is surprisingly efficient (when it's not ramming updates or Cortana down your throat).

A nobody Brand?, lol.

LINX are actually made by Microsoft?!.

So ... lol.

Taking on this type of Laptop depends on what each individual want's/needs/requires at any one point in time, etc?.

(It's not for me mind, but that's not to say that someone else can't benefit from such regardless ... ) :-)

That's alright as long as it helps folk out...its what we post on here for anyway (other than earning the Hukd owners their commision for clicking through to the deal via Webgains and sometimes, allegedly, taking our Quidco (a company they also own I believe) cashback).

And that, folks, is how normal people behave when discussing a difference of opinion. Keep up the good work both of you!
