It's been that price for quite a while now

.... someone tell me why is it that Windows tablets only come in two flavours, Surface Pro or Cheap and Chinese (or just simply underpowered... a.k.a Atom powered).... Where's the mid range devices ?

I can't really see this running Gears 4, as the picture suggests oO

no, but you could stream it from your Xbox one

I don't have a computer, is this worth the money or would I be better off getting a different tablet?

Tricky question. What will you use it for?

Mainly movies and Internet, if the gaming side works without a pc or xbox then I will make use of that.
Has this got usb otg?
Could i use this to send books over to a kindle?

It's a full blown Windows device. OTG will be supported. For your usage this or an Android tablet would suffice to be honest.

Thanks, had Android tablets in the past. Thinking of a change of OS.

Oh look, it's the brand new cutting edge Nintendo swi.......... oh wait a second.

The tablet itself is OK - I had the earlier Linx 8 and it was fine for a bit of light gaming (8-10 year-old PC games worked at acceptable frame rates) and probably worth about £60-£80 on its own...
Going by what others have said about the comfort of the controller however, I would probably avoid...

A bluetooth controller like this might be better placed around your tablet of choice:

this is a average price tbh

I've got one of these and tbh I only really use it for streaming xbox one games, which it does flawlessly, I'm very impressed with that. Shame it doesn't have full size USB port. I find the touch screen to be pretty inaccurate and unresponsive at times. Had to take my 1st one back to argos due to charging issues.

I have this. It runs games like 'life is strange' and the 'walking dead' series without any issues. Also apparently it supposedly runs Half Life 2, Portal 2, etc fine but I haven't tried.

Streaming from steam is great, and is really helping me get through my backlog (stupid steam sales).

I've tried a ps2 emulator and have got it running at a playable frame rate. But I wish it was it was a little more powerful so I could get GameCube games running, only managed 15 FPS avg.

Generally, these low-end tablets run the Intel Atom Z3000/Z8000 series CPUs. I have the Point of View and haven't tried any games on it BUT there are YouTube videos showing HL2 running at around 40 to 60 FPS smooth on the Z3735G as is the same for the CPU in this.

Went for it, thanks for the post

Hi preacher, I've been considering this tablet for a while to help with clearing my backlog also but I've read a couple of comments from people saying it has issues with windows 10. Had any problems at all? Cheers

I've got the GPD Win which is a 5.5" nintendo DS style handheld running windows 10, got an atom x7 z8700. You should not have high expectations of the integrated graphics on an atom. I can play plenty of things fairly well like fallout new vegas, trackmania turbo, kerbal space program (20fps+) but more recent games are just not happening. The Witcher 3 for instance hit dizzying heights of 7fps when set to minimum resolution and settings.

I've got one and it plays xbox one streamed games perfectly good for playing in bed lol. I've also installed launchbox app on it to play retro emulators.

It's an ok device, focused on Xbox streaming (which it does a very good job of) I just don't find windows very 'tablet friendly'. It's a bit clunky and rough round the edges, it's not ease focused like iOS or android devices. As long as you're prepared for niggles with the device, you'll be grand. Managed to bag a refurb for 80 when they were previously on offer.

Very good battery life may I add.

Oh and no YouTube app on windows frustratingly so have to watch through browser or use a **** 3rd party app.

How does this work with xbox one?.

If xbox is upstairs and im using tablet downstairs do i have to go up and turn xbox on?

Not worried about changing game discs.over, believe it or not the wife aint that stulid.

All I would want to do is play Sensible Soccer and the full version of Football Manager. Would it be capable? Thanks.

Have to be on the same network, could leave the Xbox on standby mode or whatever it's called.
The open Xbox app on tablet, then stream it.
In my experience you need a decent ish n class router preferably

Windows 10 hasn't got the greatest touch interface, but if you use windows 10 on a desktop you'll be use to it and get what you want from it.

One thing to note is that this is not a 64 bit version of os on the tablet. Not a huge issue but certain applications may not work.

I'd advise anyone who wants to tweak as much power out of this to visit the unofficial linx vision forum. Don't expect miracles, but it does help.

There's a new shield tablet coming it's with attachable controllers. I'd avoid this Luke the plague. I used Windows phones recently, hardware was excellent, but software couldn't be more disappointing. Choosing a Windows it's even Apple over android is madness.

Truly confused - this runs the full win 10 os. You can't even compare as an OS to android and iOS it's s different beast. It takes some getting used to on a touch screen but this is a computer not a blown up phone.

I had one of these, got rid of my regular Linx 8 (which was great) to get it, I really looked forward to it. Hated it. The controllers are as awkward as they look, and the tablet itself was thicker, bulkier and had sharper edges than my older Linx 8. Mine died within two weeks and i was glad to get a refund.

Can pick these up used for a good price too

They are decent units. Very good with streaming via steam or xbox, and more than capable of older games running directly from the tablet. The control takes getting used to, or just use your console control...

hi preacher
I have steam link too.
how do you steam so you can play steam games on your tablet/wiki page?

Had to return our first xmas unit due to problems with phantom presses in the top corner of screen. At that time supply was low in our area, so a local town had one where went to pick up....however this 2nd one wasn't shrink wrapped, asked to see it before I accepted it and was well used and covered in loads of fingers prints, missing the main screen protectors and bag that covers the tablet inside the case etc and it was actually still turned on!!. Argos tried to fob off saying "oh we sometimes open it up just to test them"...yeah right - looked like it'd had a couple of months worth of use out of it. So of course rejected that one.

So make sure you get one shrink wrapped!!

3rd time lucky I caved and got one again (it was actually a present for my son - hard call when seeing the £40 Z3735G deals with 1gb ram kicking around)

This time round, updated no problem. and seems to be fine now. Does take forever to get the full windows update. Windows update will only take it so far, then you have to manually start the download for the anniversary update to take it to the Windows anniversary update v1607.

Also you must open Windows Store app to allow xbox app etc to update.

For streaming for ps4/xbone/steam the extra ram in this tablet will make little difference compared to the cheaper one, however what tipped the price over the alternative for me was a) the 2gb ram, b) Z8300 chipset has some HEVC / x265 video decoding support, and c) controllers useful for when I get round to installing retroarch on this.

I may also let my son have a go on his tablet....but we'll see

Oh....turn off that cortana rubbish...that won't help with performance.....and in the xbox app disable the game recording option...that is known to slow some games down additionally too (that applies to locally run games, not game streaming)

anyone thinking of getting should have a look on the unofficial linx forum, loads of info on there including list of working steam games steam games list. the tablet isn't without its faults intially but after some tweaking ( how to on linx site) and updating to latest win 10 it's brilliant, streaming Xbox is perfect but dependant on home network quality, steam works well enough and great for some older games which alot of console gamers may have missed and usually don't cost much and can download demos to check if they work, I'm playing skyrim on low settings but still looks awesome on the tablet with no slow down. emulators are awesome on this and the controller works perfectly. the screen isn't the most responsive at times and needs occasional double tap but nothing I've not experienced with other tablets. it is quite chunky, which I prefer, its good quality brushed steel finish tho. the controller does take getting use to but works brilliantly with most games, FPS can be a challenge but found playing about with in game sensitivity settings helps a lot. For £99 I think it's a brilliant system for someone who wants something for gaming on the go, playing Xbox while TV is in use, emulators etc. no it's not going to match a high spec gaming PC or the browsing of a dedicated android system but for a casual gamer it's a lot of fun with a full Windows 10 system at you disposal, it won't be for everyone tho

I'm starting to think that the Nintendo switch is actually quite an elegant solution to gaming on a tablet on the go after seen this monstrosity.
