Do people really buy games just for the trophies?

Yep. I do. Sometimes.
However, not with games like this. All my Platinums are from fully fledged, time consuming games like Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Horizon, Nioh etc. Some people don't see the point in trophies, but to me they add extra gameplay and challenges to games I'm already enjoying and give me even more things to aim for. I'll bleed a game dry if I enjoy it, and the trophies extend the time with it.
They're no different from games I used to play on the PS2 and all the other consoles for that matter. I'd play a game and collect every possible collectable, complete every challenge etc, even when a trophy system didn't exist back then. I think trophies are a great addition to games. But, they can become a bit of an addiction for some, and that can take away from the enjoyment of a game.

Sorry for the essay

The original question was "Do people really buy games just for the trophies?" (terrible games like "My Name is Mayo") and I suspect you don't...

Sometimes a Platinum is accidental (Telltale Games for instance) and sometimes it's such a small effort on top of simply finishing the game (Undertale et al) that it's impolite not to get it.
But sometimes, the Platinum is so hard as to make it rediculous (Super Meat Boy) and sometimes a trophy relies on certain Online condtions being met (Battlefield), making the Platinum time-limited.

I fully get your motivations.. and if I cared enough about a game, I used to give it a go myself but I've had 2 glitched trophies in the last year (Life Is Strange and AC: Origins) which have destroyed my soul - neither the publisher nor PSN give a about fixing it, so I now don't bother at all with trophies

This is absolute garbage. But as the op has said, it’s a very quick and easy platinum. So unless you’re in it for a trophy boost, don’t do it to yourself!

I had Sniper Ghost Warrior glitch on me, did an entire level (think it was the last level) without being detected, took me about an hour taking my time, and finished the level but it didn't pop, so i never played it again, 97% completei left it at 😔

AC: Origins - The "Old Habits" trophy requires you to "complete" every location (pick up everything & clear out the guard)...
It takes 60+ hours (including the story) to get this one.. and if you pick up any item while playing as Aya, it doesn't trip!
The solution? just start a new game and sink another 60 hours in of course

Ouch, think I remember reading about that or someone told me it happened to them, would definitely not do it all over again

I'm playing AC:O at the moment and I do like my trophies (although I won't buy a game just for trophies) so I hope it doesn't glitch on me. I have heard they have fixed AC:O so fingers crossed and this is another reason why buying a game some time post release is better.

Ubisoft are a bit poor when it comes to trophy glitches and Ghost wildlands glitched on me which did make me angry.

Which trophy glitched on Wildlands?? I had no problem with that, or the Division but I was dreading it with Division cause the collectibles was meant to have a high chance for glitching, thought it did at one point until i found a few boards I left out

A few of the gun ones as I used a DLC code which gave me some extra guns and I think that messed with their calcs.
Also whole story, mission master, legerdary hunter. I did do some workarounds stated on the guides but they didn't work for me.

I did enjoy the game so I'll play through it again at some point. I did some co-op which I think probably messed some things up but yeah, Ubisoft basically.

I've been reading that it's fixed for new users but existing play-throughs might still be broken...
There's a potential fix for it, which mostly involves playing it a bit more but I sold my copy on.

I do plan to buy it again digitally when the game and all DLC are <£20 so it might be a nice belated bonus if it trips while I play the DLC

Oh wow not good, I was lucky never had a problem, played alot of Multiplayer with mates to, never used any codes though!!
I enjoyed it, got bored on around the third to last mission so just pushed myself to finish it, was contemplating the DLC but didn't think I could hack another 15 hours!!
Ive got a few Ubisoft games, hoping dont get any glitches 🤞
That was, without a doubt, one of the worst games I have played to platinum.

Well I started an interesting debate anyway! Personally, I would never buy a game JUST for its trophies, but I sometimes complete an extra challenge in a game I like, because there's a trophy. But if they are way too hard or time-consuming, and stop being fun, then I don't bother.

Yep, fair play Buba, I get ya. I have bought games in the past just from the trophy descriptions, but games where the trophies sound like a challenge so it's sold it to me. Not games just because they're easy Platinums. As you say though, games like TellTales are a given. They're usually games I've never heard of with little to no reviews. As for "My name is Mayo" you're absolutely right, that game and this are not games I'd buy. As for the glitched trophies, I feel your pain. GhostBusters PS3, one trophy off platinum. Online only and glitched. They can stick that one right up their Harris!
