Interesting that it is portable - not for many hours though as the power demand is quite high. Obviously a clearance line from Orange. 2008 review ]here.

Doesn't play music from your computer unfortunately.

Mm, gets a bit of a mixed review at £99.99 ... but for£29 it's now a stonkingly good price, good introduction to internet radio I think and worthy of a punt.

H&R

Thanks, been after an Internet radio for a while at around this price as I keep missing the M&S one.
Comes with rechargeable batteries too I see which is a bonus for when sitting in the garden or having a bath.

the review at £99 is almost 2 years old!!!

Just a random wild stab in the dark here, but I would assume you can add stations to it, so you could in fact stream from your PC if you set up some form of web radio on your system. I am sure there is some simple software out there capable of this.

Looks a good deal, have some heat!

According to the reviews I've just been reading, this device simply streams web radio stations via an Orange web server, at which you choose your favourite stations from a pre-defined list.

It seems that it may be dependent on that website existing/being free to use for it to work. Unless there is any way of hacking it?

Is there a list of the radio stations available? or does anyone know which server it gets them from?

looks ok but i use my ipod touch in its docking station for net radio but i love gadgets :whistling:

I figured for £29 it was worth ago. I can't find anything similar at this price and the father-in-law was looking for a radio, so I've ordered one.

Also has the ability to play MP3 files from a USB stick and an aux connector. The website seems to allow you to add URLs of radio stations.

Looks like a good internet radio starter model. Probably worth spending a bit more due to the sound quality concerns in the review above.

Orange website seems to think you can stream from your PC:

"Play music from your laptop wirelessly via your Liveradio, and you can listen to it all over the house. In fact, wherever there’s a wireless connection, you can use your Liveradio, so you can tune in whether you’re at home, or on the other side of the world."

I bought one couple of weeks back for double the price. The batteries last for 4 hrs approx. It DOES play music from your computer but you have to set it up.

There is NO recording facility.

I have one and I am quite pleased tbh. Now I feel I should have waited.

It comes with preset stations but you can add your own after you register @ Orange. Fairly straight forward.

I just checked the manual online you can play music from your computer, basically any media player either PC, Mac or Linux that supports UPnP

The batteries provides are 4 x 2500ma NimH according to the manual and battery life 4 hours of listening time.

pretty meh really. these were quite clearly NOT selling at 100 notes and now they're being flogged for what seems a bargain. wait for the tech to improve of get a second hand laptop and load some jukebox software on that.

Hold the home key for 2 seconds to go into standby mode. If nothing is playing and there is no user activity it will go into standby after 5 mins.

Do you mind me asking what app you use for this. There are loads available but would prefer to get some recommendations.

Thanks

Well, I've taken the plunge, sounds perfect for the conservatory/garden - its only 30 notes so I'm not expecting full on HIFI quality, but for not much more than a standard radio its got to be a bargain! Well spotted OP, heat from me!

Scotsann - I can highly recommend TuneIn Radio. Costs £1.19 in the App Store but worth every penny and very fully featured.

Wunder radio i use for my iphone.

Thanks! have just ordered since I needed a wireless mp3 streamer. H&R deposited.

Would be good to know how to change the favourites, subscribed podcasts etc. using an app/web browser on the local network. (do they supply software that can do this?) Just in case Orange stop 'supporting' the website that controls these functions on the unit

(This is a 3-yr old product, with a drastically reduced price tag, after all!) ;-)

Nice price for an internet radio. What's putting me off is the whf review mentions it loses internet connection. Can someone confirm this?

This sure looks familiar:

Not sure if the firmware for that can be put on the Orange device, but I will look in to it.

Chances are, since that review, the devices firmware would of been upgraded a few times to fix/tweak any sort of connection issues like that. Nobody seems to be complaining about it on the Orange forum.

------------------

It appears as this device has several websites that are somehow all connected.
I have found the French site here:
orange.fr/bin…fr/
The USA site is here:
wifi-radio.biz/

There is also a Swiss site, but I haven't found it yet. Although at the moment it does appear as though the France website is by far the best, they seem to be running some sort of World Cup feed playlist for listening to the matches. The Orange UK site hasn't got this and the company in the USA running there site seems to have died a horrible death.

One major problem here, these device cannot be registered on each and all of these websites, they seem to be sharing information. So once it is registered on one, you cannot register on another and get that feed if the one you was previously using died. Although, I am not sure, but I think it may be possible for us to register on the French site rather than the UK one, Orange don't seem to be doing much for this device on the UK website any more.

None of these features are mentioned on the UK site:
http://liveradio.orange.fr/img/img_fr/bloc_liveradio-2.jpghttp://liveradio.orange.fr/webfiles/op/20100611.CoupeDuMonde.jpg

iPhone apps, Windows apps.. Sounds nice, I will see if I can find the Swiss site.

Spain
liveradio.orange.es/
Swiss
liveradio.orange.ch/

It appears to me the French are supporting this device the best.

Ordered one!! cheers,it will be ideal for bedside radio and occasional mobility. Cheep and cheerful! Who says its ugly?? Its not at all. I would rather say attractive baby.
Its twin : Com One Phoenix .wifi-radio.biz/

In the last 3 weeks that I have been using this, it never lost signal. It all depends on your signal strength, your internet speed and the station you are playing. Sometimes it does "buffer" but thats common I guess.

I'm a bit of an internet radio fan (I speak a few languages and like to listen to overseas stations).
I bought one of these last year and it was a disappointment. Cheaply made and not pretty to look at. Sound is very thin and tinny. Frequent interruptions due to it losing signal and buffering.
I have an M&S internet/dab/FM unit which cost £45 and is far far better. Also an old Logik from Curry's which is actually a nice sounding set.
This is probably one of the least acceptable internet radios on the market.
If you want something cheap and cheerful then keep an eye on Lidl and Aldi, last year they had a basic FM/Internet radio for £39.

IMO the main two are wunderadio and tunein radio, I have them both but mainly only use tunein radio, as mentioned before its feature packed and a nice intuitive interface

Internet radio is awesome.
You can finally say goodbye to the bland UK 'cheryl cole loving' stations forever.

Ah Mekon, my arch nemesis. So we meet at last! I only ever met one good Treen in my life and it certainly wasn't you. Having to leg it since we took your baby buggy away from you?
Anyway, back to the script. I was quite tempted until I read Herr Hauptmann's post above and suddenly the M&S or Lidl offerings look more tempting. As with others, I'd be grateful for any details.
Come on Digby, our job here is done. I don't think he'll be giving us any more trouble.....or will he?.......

Ordered, thanks OP.

Heat added.
