Right, seeming as the Logitech deal has now expired I went hunting as I missed out.  The next best I found was on Currys, I assume these are brand new as they haven't stated otherwise.  Even though its £5 more still for what they are its a great price!

The Logitech X-530 5.1 Speaker System provides excellent quality audio for your home system. The X530 uses Logitech’s FDD2 (Frequency Directed Dual Driver) technology, which reduces high-frequency overlap and distortion to create a really pure sound reproduction that sounds just great. There are front and rear satellites and a ported subwoofer, booming out a massive 70 Watts. The X-530 Speaker System also has a dedicated centre channel for ensuring that no particular element of the sound is drowned out.Appealing to music fans, movie fans and gamers alike, the Logitech X-530 5.1 Speaker System also comes with separate master and subwoofer volume controls and wall-mountable speaker stands.ContentType

No one has said if these will work as 5.1 from a TV... assume its a no then?

+1 Appreciate if someone could confirm what these are like to use with a Tv.

Thanks

Logitech are mean. Why not add Optical to all Speaker sets as standard. I'm sure it doesnt cost them much more in production/design costs, and helps everyone!

Quick check of the reviews on the Comet site indicate that it isn't true 5.1 surround sound.

Once turned up it was even better!Only downside is the adapter for gaming is an input from the 2 phonos so whilst it is a 5.1 set up, the output is only 2.1... so no whistling bullets behind my head, or creaking floorboards.Good for the £49.99 price, compared to what else is available at that range.Pros: bargain, stylish, easy to set upCons: shortish and thick cables, not great for a large room, no optical input for full 5.1 ouput

Was going to grab them as well (I think comet still price match + I get a further 10% off there!)

I still believe that Logitech deal is better, it costs 5 Pounds less and offers better TCB.

Wibblers, this is not surround sound on PS3 because PS3 outputs stereo though AV cables. When you hook this speaker set to PC with surround sound, it will be true 5.1 surround sound.

Ok so I had these. Bought for £35 a while back at comet cracking deal. Good, system - sound is great, base is incredible if a bit over powering. Drawbacks: Subwoofer emits a buzz that may disturb if in a bedroom (has a power off switch though). Rear speaker leads a bit short (Can easily extend with Phono RCA cable extensions). Also on a low volume the speakers picked up german radio (seriously). These problems are not really a big deal but are worth knowing about before buying.

"No one has said if these will work as 5.1 from a TV... assume its a no then?"

Well it has an output of 3x 3.5mm jacks and comes with a converter changing the output to 2xRCA. So look up your TV model and see if it has the capability (I believe if you want to use RCA you need to buy the cables). In short, not really if you want true 5.1.

"Quick check of the reviews on the Comet site indicate that it isn't true 5.1 surround sound."

I believe comet no longer stock them instore, nor on their site (even though it is still listed). Which is why I couldn't get a replacement for mine. (Picked up a 2.1 z323 instead)

Oh and the reason I 'had' these is because I managed to break one of the 3.5mm jacks when a bit drunk...

Hmm and from Amazon:

I've read most of the reviews so I'll clarify some bits:1) YES you need 3 … I've read most of the reviews so I'll clarify some bits:1) YES you need 3 sockets from your sound card or source, this is NOT a super digital processor, you need to feed it the signals. Plugging in your iPod will not drive all the speakers.2) The sub woofer isn't overpowering - back to how you drive it. When I plugged my MP3 player using only the main feed, yes it's overpowering - but that's not how you are supposed to use the speakers - so it's hardly a failing. Besides if it's too much for you adjust it using your PC's equaliser!3) The adapter that's referred to in the description for Xbox's etc is actually in the box - a little plastic doofry that converts 2 into the 3 required. (2xRCA female to 3x6.5mm sockets)4) Yes the rear speaker wires are a bit on the mean side - and extra couple of metres would have been nice. I'll have to get a couple of extension cables - RCA female to RCA male.5) Foreign radio - nope, but I do seem to live in a lead lined flat so I may be protected.6) Surge clicks - yep when my fridge kicks in there is a 'pop' or 'click', they are a bit sensitive to that sort of thing, so some sort of surge protection or a good clean mains is required.

Which indicates it will do 5.1 - but requires feeds to do that rather than "producing it" directly. So if you've got an amp (or soundcard on PC) that says wire to front speakers and wire to back speakers etc - it will not do surround sound 5.1.

Unlike other more expensive systems where you take a single output into the speaker setup which then produces your true 5.1 (ie the optical out).

Hope this helps.

I bought these for £37 from Amazon a while back to replace my old Creative 2.1 set that was linked to my laptop via external 5.1 sound card.

They look better than the creative2.1 but I wasn't really impressed with the rear speakers, I used the external sound card software to tweak it all kinds of ways but they never really delivered much sound like the other speakers did.

This linked with the overpowering base and the ability to pickup foreign radio when at low volume (you were not the only one Sean!) I decided to get rid of them.

I compared them to the creative 2.1 using the same soundcard and same music and decided the creative gave a overall better sound (despite being 3 less speakers and alot less wires).

Just my opinion.

THESE ARE FOR fairly SERIOUS GAMERS!!

And thats about it.

Most of us would be OK with 2.1 from the laptop/PC and for the TV you need something a bit better than this though they CAN be connected and will sound better than the tinny/tiny(You choose) speaker that your Plasma/Lcd comes with.

I hope that clarifies.

Just to add, if you want something for the TV then be prepared to spend upwards of £150.00 and if you see the word ONKYO in the title - Dont click - You probably cant afford it.:)

(uh,oh what have I done!!)

So can I just plug these into my TV or will I need an amp??

Better how? The blemished box will be going in the bin when I get it.

Still a hot deal though, shame there aren't any vouchers around.

i could do with some new pc speakers, but id rather have some for the tv & xbox which are in the lounge downstairs, would these be no use to me then?

They are not showing on the website???

I have had this set for years now. 2006-7 I think I brought mine and they still going strong so I can highly recommend them. I paid £54 back in 2006-7 at PC world because of a blemished box and I do really like them.

Only issue for me is the lack of 3.5mm microphone jack. There is a headphone jack but not microphone so at night when I used my headset I couldn't use the microphone part if I plugged the headset into the jack on the speakers. I solved this by purchasing a 1 to 2 3.5mm jack and leaving my headset and these speakers plugged into the soundcard all the time.

PS there are reviews on YouTube of this (I did one myself for a Logitech Competition) I wont link it here but it can easily be found searching logitech x 530 review on youtube

Three questions:

1. Regarding this: PLAYSTATION3 (with game console adapter, not included) - could anyone suggest where to get a game console adapter to use this with my PS3 (or is it simply better to plug straight into my TV which is a Samsung 3DTV)

2. Is it worth purchasing based on the price for someone who uses the TV regularly for movies and games (I currently only use the Nintendo 2.1 speaker system which I got in a previous deal).

3. Did the logitech deal expire (the one that's £5 cheaper) as I can't find it.

4th question: I clicked on the link but can't find it.

i can't find the Currys one???

I read every line hence my previous questions, and upon going to the Curry's site through the link could not find it. I did a search on logitech products and still could not find one for - or near - that price. Perhaps this deal has expired but if not any help would be greatly appreciated, both with finding the item on the website and with my previous questions.

Excellent set of speakers. Had them for over a year, very good bass and clear sound. Good price as well

Thanks, just bought some.

They are back at Logitech if you want to pay £5 less...

Should get mine soon as its with UPS. Apperently has a converter to allow it to connect to an RCA source so should work with TV\Xbox\PS3. Thats why I got it so fingers crossed.

Otherwise the converter is on sale at their web site £5 (OOS) or on ebay for about £10

It definitely was! Do you know if they regularly have this (blemished box) at that price as I'm thinking of waiting until it's back to buy straight from Logitech.

I have the model above these (x-540), so I'm guessing there is slight difference. Brilliant speakers anyway. Can't imagine not having them anymore. Great sound from BF3!

Got my UPS shipping email today too coming next Monday,
There isn't anyway of returning these or cancelling these for free is there to take up this currys offer?

If you don't mind me asking why is the Currys offer better (since Logitech is cheaper and a reliable company to purchase from)?

Sure, I just think that if anything went wrong with the speakers then Curry's will be easier deal with in store?

Just ordered it, thanks for posting this up!
Really hope it's creates a crystal clear experience with my PS3.
BTW, the speakers are wall mountable, that was the huge selling point for me!!
