Just spotted this on Amazon. Not the cheapest it's been but nonetheless a great deal if your'e in the market for a wheel.

Just got to find myself a decent racing chair now, anyone got any recommendations?

Enjoy.

Good price and a good wheel. I've got this but the shifter is definately a little on the light/weak side so I tend to use the paddles. I know you can mod it to make it more clunky/real feeling but I cba doing that.

Took me a good while finding the right setup for the wheel on Forza but once you get it, it is so much more fun than the controller.... But it is not easy!

Oh and the whole thing makes some noise(not for me with headset on), so if you've got a kid trying to sleep or a Mrs watching her programs then you might be in for some grief.
Same price on PC World / Curry’s if you need it sooner
I'm a total noob when it comes to racing peripherals but I'm thinking about getting one to get into VR racing. Can anyone recommend what I should be looking for? Is this good for the price? What makes this better than a standard £50 wheel, is it just build quality? Or do the higher priced ones have any extra features? TIA.

This is pretty good for the money.
extra money gets better assembly, better materials and better gubbins.
To be honest im suprised they can make it for this price. I racked up around 45,000 miles on mine with just the upshift issue raising its head at the end of that.

Problems with the G29 are its very noisy, very lumpy (not smooth), wheel feels a bit slack and the upshift paddle *can* become intermittent. Plus as mentioned the shifter is a bit meh, but it does its job. Apart from that its all positives iirc.
For the money it remains a very good set. To get something better you need spend a stupid amount more. Personally i dont have a problem recommending the G29.

If your on PC i prefer the PS4 version as its got more buttons (very useful in VR) including a dial which while not well supported is a sweet addition ive not seen on any other wheel. And on buttons the ps4 versions buttons are laid out very well, again great for VR.

Thanks. Good feedback.
Had one about 2 years. Definitely recommend it, best wheel you can get for the price - Best wheel you can get for under £250 - £300. Yeah it's not belt driven, or the shifter feels really light and cheap. But for all the features it has, you really cannot go wrong. Just bought an Oculus Rift today so I'm really excited to try them both out together.

G29/G920 is the lowest quality wheel you should be looking at. The cheaper wheels are probably missing force feedback and a clutch pedal (if they come with any pedals at all. The goal for sim racers is to get a direct drive wheel.

You can buy modifications for the G29/G920 such as a progressive spring (GTEYE) for the brake pedal or a load cell kit. You can also get a usb adapter (leo bodner) for the pedals so that you could plug them into your computer independent of the wheel then upgrade the wheel and keep the pedals until you can afford better pedals.

You could buy a more expensive wheel and get some 2nd hand Fanatec Clubsport V2 Pedals off eBay.

A direct drive base unit could cost around £900 and you'd still have to buy the button box (steering wheel buttons & flappy paddles), a wheel rim, pedals & gear stick. Then you still have to fork out £400 for the VR headset and a couple of hundred for the rig to mount everything to. Is your PC/Graphics card capable of running VR at 90fps?

I think i actually prefer the G29 pedals to the v2's!
throttle is much better placed and pedal faces are nicer.

Thank you.

I have a decent rig to run it. i5 8600K and a GTX 1080. I already have an Oculus Rift also so just thinking about getting a wheel/pedal setup and maybe get into some of the VR racing games but don't want to get a cheapo set that breaks the immersion but on the flip side I don't want to spend too much on something that won't get used every day. Time for some youtube reviews!

Is the G920 having the same problems?

Id presume so, for all intents they are identical. However i wouldnt let these put you off, for the money its an excellent wheel. Mine got a lot of use (I wish real cars cost £200 per 40k miles!) before i decided to ditch it/save it for my son.

The better wheels have higher resolution.. the higher the resolution the more the wheel registers tiny movement. Cheap wheels feel like an elastic band, in that they snap to the centre position, not at all like a real wheel feel, and you can turn the wheel a quarter turn before any movement is registered at all.

This guide will help you to decide which of the decent wheels to choose:

Assetto Corsa is amazing with a G29 and Rift now. It used to be a bit of a pain because you had to do all the pre race stuff on your monitor and only the race was in VR but now there is Oculus Dash so you can just use that to do all the configuration without taking the Rift off :). It works even better if you use Content Manager instead of the standard UI as you can adjust the UI scale.
