Logitech Harmony Ultimate & Harmony Hub Universal Remote - Works with Alexa £99 Deal of the Day @ Amazon

Been using Logitech Harmony remotes for over a decade - they are the best way to control your home cinema or hi-fi gear. This one comes with the Harmony Hub, which allows smartphone control via the Harmony app over wifi, and allows for Alexa to control your gear. Once you get used to "Alexa, ask Harmony to turn on the TV" you'll wonder how you lived without it - I find I rarely use the remote itself to start activities anymore. The Hub also allows control of certain devices that don't have remotes but can be controlled over wifi, and for controlling smart home items like Hue light bulbs.

Used to have this model without the hub, but upgraded to the Harmony Elite with Hub on Prime Day (mainly to get the Hub). Functionality wise there isn't much difference - both can control 15 devices, and the Hub functionality is the same regardless of the remote you use. The Elite is an RF remote by default, so it doesn't need line of sight - this wasn't the case wiht the one I had, but I seem to recall that the ones bundled with the Hub always were RF, and according to the Amazon listing this one is an RF remote.

I have had loads of Harmony remotes but I couldn't get on with this one one. Poorly designed and overpriced. Voted cold.
Excellent remote and a good price.
You can drop the ”ask harmony” bit now and justsay “Alexa turn on tv”
Your talking about the elite but this is the ultimate which is a pile of junk. I've had 10 harmonies over the years and this is the worst one. Wait until prime day in July and pick up the elite for £120.
I have this and it’s awesome! Great price with the hub.
the problem i have is that you spend £100 ish on a great logitech contoller (as i did), then get amazing OLED TV with wii style controller that my logitech can't do - hence it is pointless now. Then Sky brings out Q with voice option...again which my logitech can't do.

sorry but i'm sick of wasting money on outdated tech now.
Was looking to buy the hub only, but this looks like a great deal. Is it possible to just use the app to setup the hub with alexa? And sell off the remote?
I have had 2 Harmony 650 from Logitech but they have both developed problems with the buttons wearing out and failing to respond to being pushed.
Got this when it was 60 quid a few months ago. It's a great piece of kit, but as somebody who upgraded from the excellent Harmony One I have to say the design of this one is a step backwards. Having the transit buttons above the screen is endlessly irritating. Thankfully I can now use alexa for all of those functions. The newer Elite is clearly a better design, although still not as good as the original One they were making 10 years ago! It is however much more expensive. You pays your money you takes your choice!

I’ve got an LG oled e7. I use the mouse controller when I need to go into advanced options etc, but I have this controller set up to do everything you use on a daily basis, plus it controllers more then just my tele, so for me it’s still very relevant. Plus as it works with Alexa (the hub) it means I can walk in the room and voice commend my tv to and all other audio visual stuff to turn on. Certainly not outdated tech in my opinion.

The buttons haven't worn out, they have the same problem most remote get over time where the contacts on the inside get a sticky residue on them. Just open them up and you'll see the contacts are shiny black, clean them and the corresponding points on the circuit board, with some alcohol and a cotton bud they'll go a matt dark grey and the remotes will work perfectly again.
Great deal. No voice control, but for the most part this is not an issue. Have heat. Ordered.
Logitech need to put a microphone into their next remote to keep up with Samsung, sky, Amazon, Google etc

(I'm keeping my 650 until that day!)

When did this happen? I knew that this applied in America a few months ago, but didn't think it had made it over here yet
Excellent bit of kit works well with alexa and google home.

don't get me wrong i have a 650 that i use all the time for my Onkyo, Q, blu-ray (never use it anymore) and TV. but when i want to watch flash drive on my TV i find it far easier to use my TV controller as i'm too lazy to go reprogramme the 650.

What i should do is setup one of the macro buttons to change my TV to usb and the Av to Dig 2 in one go...infact i just might over the next day.

I said that in terms of number of devices controlled, and with the presence of the hub the Ultimate and Elite are equivalent feature-wise. I had the Touch, which is effectively just the remote from th Ultimate (no RF), prior to the Elite and found it to be fine. I admit the design of the Elite is far better than the Touch/Ultimate, but I quickly got used to the button layout.

You need to use an app to get the hub connected to your wifi anyway, so yes. Selling off the remote would be fine, however if you already have a remote you want to keep using you should bear in mind that the hub controls your devices - the remote tells the hub to send commands rather than sending them itself, so if you were to use another remote the hub might get confused as to the state of the system.
I wonder if I could use this to control my PC for which I currently use an ancient ATI Remote Wonder Plus.
It uses RF so maybe this remote could control it?

Quite recently, but you need the new skill (blue icon rather than the old red one).
Be careful if you're planning on using the link.

Logitech are stopping this service, leaving its customers furious.
Poor remote, poor touch screen, very slow to use, awful software, doesn’t work with PS4, not great with Alexa (although much better than it used to be), utterly useless with nest and Philips hue, I wouldn’t recommend it.

£39 seems about right for this if it ever drops that low. I don’t think Logitech will be the only player in this game for much longer, their software is so rubbish, owners like me need to spread the word so on-the-fencers like you can stay clear, and wait for amazon or someone to do something better.

Strange how it gets reviewed so well. Others proclaiming how well it does work.

You seem a bit angry.

Harmony remotes only seem worth it if you have a home cinema set up, as you can set everything up with a single remote. Otherwise it is just an expensive remote. I have had a few over the years and can honestly say I don't miss them. I stopped buying them when they started to retail at over £100

To be honest I can't imagine buying one if you didn't have a home cinema setup. In theory, you can get smart home integration which might make it worthwhile without a home cinema, but I've never tried this as I don't have compatibile smart home stuff. Having a home cinema though I can't imagine not using one to control it - it's admittedly much easier now you can run everything through an AVR with HDMI, but there's still quite a few things to control at once for almost any activity.

That’s Harmony Link, different product to this
Just purchased. Another gadget to add to the collection.

Nope, it can’t turn it on, and the media buttons like play/pause, or even the dpad don’t work in the sky go app (and probably others). And it can’t turn the PS4 off properly (the macro it runs doesn’t work all the time). So no, it doesn’t really

I guess it depends what you expect from technology. If you’re the kind of person that thinks Bluetooth and Wi-fi is ‘just magic isn’t it’, then you might be impressed, but if you think that for £100 for a remote control should mean it’s pretty much flawless (or at least on par with the free one that came with each of your devices) then you’ll be disappointed.

Well you’re doing something wrong because it works fine with mine. Perhaps it’s how mine is set up? I use alexa, harmony and Yonomi. And I can say turn on/off PS4 etc and it does it. It also does my PS3 too

It can’t turn on the PS4, technically it can if it used HDMI CEC through your tv, but the macro involved in that would be different for every tv, and something you would have had to specifically program yourself, and would remember. And you won’t have noticed yet the failure of the switch off macro (I think if you go to the menu, rest on the game you are currently playing, but don’t reopen it, then press off on the harmony, it fails).

Works fine with the PS3 tho

No idea, mine is a fairly new Sony tv dunno if that makes a difference? definitely works though
Received mine today. It's doing my head in! Simply cannot get the remote to "Watch TV". The bit it's not able to do is switch the Panasonic TV to the DVB setting.

Lololololol.

Try adjusting the delay between commands. Welcome to hell.

No what it is is that when you are on another HDMI channel and then when you want to go back to watch TV it won’t change to DVB. I’ve had to add another action to Press TV
Finally got there. Got everything hooked up and the other 6 remotes banished to the drawer.

A little tricky to tweak things when it’s not quite right as I found I had to use a mix of the desktop app and mobile app to get it right.

Will have a proper play over the coming days to see what it’s like but first impressions are good.

I spent a good couple of hours messing years back to get my first harmony setup, since then it's become second nature though, & my kids & wife have never even seen more than one remote in my house.

The alexa voice commands are great now they've given us the US skill, finally! The youngest kids being able to say alexa turn on Disney junior/boomerang etc instead of putting their grubby mits on my Elite is a bonus!
