tbh i know jack sh*t about webcams and their specs, but this looks pretty impressive to me, so whats not so good about it ?

good webcam ...works well in low light, I got one when Dell had them on offer for £14.99 with free headset and mic as well (the headset isnt required) the built in mic is excellent...works well with MSN etc without any problems...good buy...shame about high postage....but hot

Reading the various on-line reviews people keep complaining about the bundled video effects software being rubbish. The hardware however seems to be pretty good.

The main reason to go and buy better web-cam seems to be an auto-focus, which is a questionable feature for a personal web-cam anyway - especially when it means spending > £50.

Can someone please confirm what the maximum video frame rate is @ 640x480 and 1280x1024?

I bought one of these from Dell recently too. Great webcam and the bundled software is actually quite good.
I think the normal and reccomended framerate is 15fps, although I think you might be able to tweak it to get 30fps.

There is a bug in Windows XP which means that this webcam doesn't work properly with some AMD chipsets. For me, the webcam didn't work in Skpye or Google Talk until (after much research) I found and installed the hotfix:

There is a similar patch for Vista:
