That seems like a great piece of kit for anyone who needs top notch video quality.

This would be ideal for my next "business venture"

So by "business venture" you mean "discrete home videos" right? :-D

I have the older model. Great webcam for "my" business venture.

Lets not pigeon hole this camera. It would be great for leisure as well as business

I already have a "laptop" webcam but would be interested in this better quality one.HOWEVER, my laptop has an "in built" webcam already (not the best quality!, hence wanting a better one) BUT I cannot get ANY "external" cam to work because of the in-built one.Does anyone know if its possible to plug external web cams (via USB) into a laptop where there is already an in built cam?..and if so HOW?!! LOL thanks.

SUPERB price!
Was looking for one last week, but had to resist this due to the original price. Buy! Buy! Buy!

i was looking at this today in pc world, but didnt want to pay £80 or so for a webcam.
Good deal. May invest in one myself.
Hot..!!

Will this work fine on a Macbook?

It doesn't actually state that on the technical specifications listed on the page on Amazon UK - I'm taking a look myself (helping a friend look into purchasing one for his Apple Mac desktop) but I can't see anything thus far.

If I find confirmation for it I'll post a reply up.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Ahhh cheers bud - lemme know how you get on. Really want to get it, although need to make sure if it would work fine with iMovie/iLife.

Cheers

You have to disable or maybe even uninstall the built in one I think. Go to device manager and stop it there.

I just bought pro9000 which is also by Logitech. It is £10 more than this (also currently on offer by Amazon. I wonder if quality wise they are both the same or if pro 9000 is better. By right it should be since its RRP is £10 more.... Pro9000 has over 600 reviews from amazon.com scoring almost full stars, and it has 48 comments from amazon.co.uk scoring also full stars.. There seems to be fewer comments on this one in amazon, presumably there is fewer sales on this one. Can anyone clarify?

I'm on the lookout for a new webcam for my desktop, anyone know if this will attach ok to a desktop LCD monitor? Obviously it's thicker than a laptop lid so I'm not sure the webcam clamp will have enough leeway..

As mentioned above, I know the Pro 9000 is only a tenner more but this is already a bit over my planned budget..

Edit: Got the following from the Logitech site - "Adjustable display clip: Works on notebook panels up to 20 mm thick.".

Will have to measure the depth of my monitor..

No you don't. In the program you are going to use the webcam in (for example MSN/Live Messenger) just go into the webcam setting (in Messenger, not the apps that come with the webcam) and tell it which one to use. It's as simple as that

Studying the specs on the Logitech website, they appear to be pretty much identical, aside from physical attachment differences. Odd that the Pro 9000 has a higher RRP when the notebook version has a couple of extra accessories for travelling..

I guess the difference in number of reviews comes down to sales figures as you say, probably because notebooks often have webcams built-in..

This camera is also listed on Play.com -(£44.99) and on eBuyer (£50)

Found a comparison review between pro 9000 and this one here in cnet:
reviews.cnet.com/web…lst
(search pro9000 for its own review)

The difference between the two comes down to just outward design. They were both retailed at the same price USD99 in the logitech website. Seems like cnet is not terribly fond of the design for this one though as it is not sturdy enough. Pro9000 has 6ft cable while this has 3ft. Does these two factors justify for a price difference of £10??
may be I should buy this as well to compare side by side (and return one)..

I hear the video quality on this is great!! I'm interested, would be ideal for filming me and the missus at play ;-)

out of curiousity, what would you do w. the recording - hide it well so that it's out of reach from the kids or make it commercial?

To utilise this webcam fully, one PC should be fast enough. It works superbly using my husband's laptop dual core processor while it shows a lag visually when recording using mine - Centrino processor.

What's a centrino processor?

Good deal btw!

:-D It's DELL inspiron 6000 Centrino processor, came out back in year 2004/5. Must be pretty obsolete now. The point I m making is that if your PC isn't that fast, you will not be utilising this to its max. It's memory hungry too..

Somebody left a comment in amazon saying he did what you suggested and it sticks really well with a little velcro pad, though might need some cable extension as 3 feet is not long enough...

"Centrino is a platform-marketing initiative from Intel. It is not a mobile CPU - rather, the term covers a particular combination of mainboard chipset, mobile CPU and wireless network interface in the design of a laptop. Intel claimed that systems equipped with these technologies should deliver better performance, longer battery life and broad wireless network interoperability."

Didn't feel the need to make a new topic for this, but the price has now been reduced to £31.23 and is currently in stock.

If someone could edit the title to reflect this price change, I'm sure it would help more people.

Good call, have asked the mods to do this.

Welcome to hukd btw!

Thankyou. I've been using this site to find deals for a while now, so I figured it was about time I made a contribution.

Hopefully this will help some of the people who were looking at the Quickcam Pro 9000 deal from Scan but didn't receive their order (such as me).
