I went to Comet and tried these out today. Very impressive. To me they sounded slightly better than the more expensive Logitech Z4s (though from what I've read most would disagree). In the end I decided to go for the Z4s for other reasons. The Z4s are on offer at the moment too: hotukdeals.com/ite…er-

Just looks like the same thing with an MP3/iPod player cradle.

EDIT

About the same price on Amazon too amazon.co.uk/exe…402

Thanks Faythur. The x240 is the newer model. It's good if you want the mp3 player cradle, but if not it's a bit
unnecessarily big for a volume control and on/off switch. I saw one in the shop today and it felt a bit cheap.
From what I've read the sound quality is as good as the x230, but no better.

I have these and they are excellent speakers. The reviews on amazon and eBuyer can not praise them enough. I have the sub volume at the bottom and its still pounding.

here's my simple guide on 2.1 pc speakers

Best Sounding
Aego M 2.1 Speakers - Around £80-£130

Best Looking
Harmon Kardon Soundsticks 2 - Around £100

Somewhere in the middle
Harmon Kardon Creature 2 - ]Only £50 at amazon

Best Value
Logitech X-230 (at £25 these are a steal! There is 382 reviews ]here)

The logitechs are amazing value but If you can spare another £20/£25 i would personally go for the 'harmon kardon creature 2' - Simply because they look amazing and sound much better than the logitech's.
The aego m are among the best pc speakers for their price but obviously not everyone wants to spend £100

Do these get any power "buzz" or "hum" at all, my current speakers are dreadful.

I bought these ages ago for around £30 from Amazon. They're amazing! Very, very, very little noise when they're on full volume with no audio. They can be loud and still sound great. I love them. I have the bass turned all the way down; they are very bass heavy (for me) otherwise, but it's a lovely sounding bass.

great find i was looking for some good speakers and think its a great deal!

I got these a few weeks ago for £30 - worth every penny. Astounding sound quality, you'll be blown away at the kind of range these things produce. Separate control on the sub to handle bass.

Couldn't recommend these enough! BUY!

Reserved a set of these in my local store for collection tomorrow - voted hot

£20 would be a more fairer price for these.

i've had these for years and although they RRP at £40 they've been at this price for a long time in various retailers

i think they are good for the money though, if you are reall yon a budget

?

why?

have you seen a better deal? :?

Good solid set of 2.1 speakers that have done a good job of offering decent sound at a decent price for the last few years

I got these speakers from play.com a couple of weeks ago & can comfirm they are AWESOME, best £30 I've spent in ages! if only I lived in the middle of no where, so I could crack them right up!!!

If anyone tells you these aren't a real find, they're lying!!!

+1, I own the Aego M's they are top class, I've had the X-230's which I got from PC World for £19.99, i was amazed at the amount of bass they produced, very hot deal

I have had these speakers for some time - bought them mostly because of raving reviews on Amazon.

My opinion is:

They are absolutely AWFUL!

Bass, bass, bass, bass more bass.. and nothing else. Even if you use this knob to minimize bass level - it is still too much of it!

Also - midrange is virtually non-existing and satellites sounds very 'tinny' and like 'plastic'.
Sound is very artificial and overprocessed by built-in DSP whose only purpose is (guess what?).. Yes! Increase bass!

Avoid them like a plague, unless only thing that matters for you is BASS..

I think "absolutely aweful" is rather unfair. I would agree with the majority who think that they're very good value, and from the reviews they clearly do a great job for most people's needs.

However, I do take your point regarding the bass. The minimum setting is still too high, which is a nuisance if you're trying to be sociable. For that reason I went for the Logitech Z4s instead, which allow you to turn the bass right down to zero if you want.

Well, maybe I exaggerated a bit The point is that (basing on all this hype and raving reviews) I expected something absolutely astonishing, but what I have got is... rather poor, overprocessed sound with a way too much uncontrolled, low-quality bass.

However, I agree this for this price they are pretty good value and you probably won't find anything much better in this range. They are just not that good that many wants them to be

I bought a set of these a while ago for my PC, and having heard the sound quality bought a second set to use on a TV. They sound superb - I couldn't recommend them highly enough.

I have had these for over a year, they are superb, maybe a little bass'y. The only thing i would point out is that the headphone socket volume is NOT controlled by the speaker volume knob. £25 is a very good price.

Excellent speakers had mine for well over a year now, flawless

Would these be OK for connecting to a 32" TV in a fairly small living room as I'd like to improve/ boost the sound when watching DVDs/ Corro etc but don't want to play silly money for a home cinema system (don't really have the space and don't want lots of little speakers dotted all over the room either). Am thinking the base unit could go on bottom shelf of TV unit, other 2 speakers either side.

Collected my set instore this morning - took about 10mins to setup on my HTPC - big improvement on my TVs built-in speakers... bargain for £24.99

I thought that when I was in Comet earlier today - the Z4s look nicer being silver but I thought these get top reviews so I'd just save the £15... :-D

kenan557;4805063

£20 would be a more fairer price for these.

What rubbish, £50 would be a fairer price for these!! Had a pair for over 18 months and they are absolutely awesome. Loads of volume, loads of bass without drowning the high and mid range and very well built.

Frankly, no! I'd go for these over the Z4s even if they were the same price!

Great value and excellent speakers, got mine this morning after reading this thread and would recommend.

so are these better than the x-240 then?! :?

Depends on your preferences, I went for the Z4's based on nick_subs comment that you can't control the bass as much on the X-230's. Have to say they were well worth the extra £15, they sound amazing on anything I've played on them. I've tried Pink Floyd, Nightwish, Jurassic 5 and KT Tunstall through em and it's dealt with them extremely well, with proper speaker positioning sounded almost like a 5.1 system with Nightwish

The ability to adjust the bass form totally flat to earth shaking rumble is quite nice as well since I live in a small flat and don't want to **** off my neighbours.

If in doubt it's an instore offer, I'd take your mp3 player into Comet and ask to try em out and make up your own mind.
