One of the few 2.1 systems to conveniently put the bass control on the remote.

http://www.logitech.com/repository/331/jpg/2374.1.0.jpg

I have these, I purchased them after a fairly exhaustive sound test of various 2.0 and 2.1 Sony, Altec Lansing, Logitech and Creative speakers in PC world. For the price (I paid £50) these were by far and away the best (my wife agreed).

I have a £800 surround sound setup with an Onkyo amp and Canton speakers, in a small room these sound almost as good!

Have these - awesome sound for the price.

And you can change the satellites as long as you put a phono plug on the speaker cable.

these are fantastic for the price. I paid around £45 from amazon at christmas, they are really well build, the speakers are metal, solid and heavy. The volume adjuster dial has a really smooth quality feel to it.

I was going to get the Creative GigaWorks T40 Series II Speakers but the build quality is appalling and wasn't impressed with the sound. I think you do really need a seperate sub for decent bass

I had my eyes on these in PC World last week, Just reserved a set to collect in 30 mins! :-D

will post back when I have had a listen to them!

I was going to go for them too, but I was initially put off by the size of the subwoofer which won't fit under my desk.
Then I decided that I would be better off with 2.0 speakers (was think of going for the Logitech X-140). I'll only be using them to listen to rock/indie and for gaming (race sims). I'm sure these would be great for drum and bass etc, but not sure about rock/indie - any thoughts?

But now these replies have got me tempted again....I've read lots of good reviews about the sound quality and I really like the look of them too.

I found all the 2.0 system's including the Creative Gigaworks units lacked any bass at all, they sounded miles apart from these.

Thanks kamran. You swung it for me.

I reserved a set and went off to Comet to collect but when I got ther I found they had th x-230s for £25 too. After a lot of indecision I tried them both out and have to say the 230s sounded better balanced. There seemed to be more of a gap between the low and high frequencies with the Z4 but I'm no hifi expert. However, the minimum bass level on the 230s was still too loud (I want to at least be able to be sociable when I choose to!) whereas the Z4s bass could be turned right down to zero. Plus the remote on the Z4s is really nice and has bass control on it so I went for the Z4s...only to find they had no stock! Decided to pay for them anyway at this price and will pick up when they next come in.

So it was a bit backward but I went for my own deal in the end!

Edit: Posted the X-230s as a deal too as it's much cheaper than even the best internet price, and they're supposed to be very good speakers too (hotukdeals.com/ite…ak/)

Would it be better to have these on a desktop and the subwoofer under the desk, or have a 5.1 system like the Logitech X 540 and have them all on the desktop, excluding one speaker and the subwoofer which would be under the desk?

i use these for gaming. sound is exceptional . you hear every footstep , breath , twig break etc . def worth the money

do you think they are better? Also can anyone give advice on whether it's better to have 5.1 speakers on a desktop all on the same little desk (expect one subwoofer and speaker which would be under the desk), or to have 2.1 system like this?

Personally I slightly preferred the soound of the X230, but both were very good. I think the Z4s are generally regarded to be better though.

As for the 2.1/ 5.1 I'm afraid I haven't tried a 5.1 all on one desk, but I would think the wouldn't be much benefit from 5.1s as you'd have to have the "rear" speakers infront of you anyway. Plus there is all the clutter on the desk. So personally I'd go for a 2.1 but I can't say for sure what a 5,1 would sound like in that config, except that it's not what it's designed for of coarse which may mean the 2.1 might be better.

DAMN bought these 2 days ago from amazon for £50! nooooo

is it worth paying the extra for these instead of the x230s?

Both sets of speakers are Great! value for money.

Just avoid the x-240's they're a real let down.

I'm also in the dilemma of choosing between the x-240 and the z-4.
A factor that may make my decision is based on the cabling.
I need the satellites to be disconnectable from the sub so that i can route the cables through my desk. I think the x-230 has the satellites joined together by an undetachable cable - this sucks.

Can anyone tell me if the z-4 satellites are both detachable??

Awesome, I'll hopefully be picking them up soon.

Thanks for the quick response, rep added.

I got them, £39.99 from comet. They initially said that they had none in stock because the line was out of production. However, after I asked them to check on their computer system, they did have some.:?

Anyway, they look and sound pretty awesome (even though I'm using Realtek integrated sound from my PC). The remote is very handy as it has both the bass and the volume on it. The bass incredibly loud, which may appeal to some listeners. Also, there are 2 3.5mm jacks for headphones and a mic, which could be useful.

All in all, its a great buy and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a low (or even mid-ranged) 2.1 set-up.

i eventually got em from pc world who pricematched comet

took em home and they are great, better than my old pair definately

they look very nice too!

Got these yesterday from comet, pcworld were selling them for £50. Anyway they are very good speakers, but i prefer putting the bass up to full as everything sounds more clear, even when watching tv shows, movies, music, gaming, it's better when the bass is at full on the remote control. My only problem is that the speakers aren't straight, so it looks a bit weird with my imac as i always have it straight.

yus786 - how did you arrange the pricematch? My local Comet still don't have any stock so I'm thinking of trying PCW instead if I can get a pricematch. Did you just walk in and tell them that Comet had them at £39.99?

yeah but they check if your local comet has stock first and then pricematch so its not looking all that good!

Thanks. There are two other Comets around here which apparently have stock so it should be OK (it's just the one next door to the PCW which is out of them). Hopefully it'll be OK and save me a trip to the Comet on the other side of town.

awesome set of speakers, top deal mate

Most of the logitech speakers are awesome.. i currently own the x-540 for gaming/music ect there good.

Finally got mine last night. Comet still didn't have any stock so I got a refund and went into PCWorld to get a pricematch against a Comet store which had one in stock.

It was £79 in PCW so with their 110% price promise it worked out at about £36.10 but the sales assistant's maths didn't work and he only charged me £35.10 :-D

Anyway, it's a great system although I still think the x230 sounded a little better. The remote is really nice though and the cables are all a good length. Definately reccomended, especially at £36.

Offer still on but it's also only £45 delivered at Amazon now.

would it be possible to pricematch these from pixmania who are doing them for £34....but with 9 quids postage??

cheers

Original Poster

No, I'm afraid PC World only Pricematch with stores within a 30 miles radius, and Pixmania is based in France!

ok, thanks for clearing that up, i might just go for it anyway!
