These are nice - got them connected to the telly upstairs. From just a headphone output they do simulated surround sound (which is AOK) but you can (if you want pure stereo through multiple speakers) split the input and feed the same input in to all three phono pairs. Either way these are worth the money - I paid about £7 more a year or so ago and am well pleased.

Decided not to Flubit because they're a bit dodgy. Especially if these go out of stock. Good luck trying to get anything out of them then.

I saw these before at work but you beat me to posting them! I ordered them last week at £59 but Amazon have refunded me the difference, result!

Good speakers for the cost, I was worried about the length of the rear cables but it just fits right in my room. And yes, I used a stereo jack splitter for the three inputs - worth doing as the sound from the rears can seem a bit distant and lower in volume (like they are underwater).

Awesome speakers. Got the older version that I have had for 9 years and they're amazing.

Got these as a Christmas present a few years ago. Excellent speaker setup. Heat at this price.

Yup!

Ok speakers, not so good mid range but still nice. Suffer from static on the headphones though when no input. Swapped my old ms80 for these, kinda miss the deep bass of the subwoofer though.

You get three stereo inputs (front, centre, rear) as well as two RCA phono inputs. Usually when connecting a computer, TV (headphone socket), and iPhone you only get one stereo output. The speakers force sound to the other speakers when using one input but it doesn't sound as good. Using the below helps to convert through wires and so you get stereo sound through all speakers (note this isn't strictly 5.1 as you'd need a sound card for that anyway).

Examples of cable splitters:

I went for the second as I had Amazon Prime and wanted it the next day.

i am so tempted, but it could be an OCD wire nightmare

Pretty awesome speakers! I have them plugged into a HP Microserver for my budget home cinema system.

Top notch for the price!

I’m unclear about where the decoding occurs in this sort of system. Or is there no decoding or dematrixing at all for dts or dolby digital encoded sources?

Good price. I have already got X540 connected with tele otherwise it would have been a must buy for me.

just requested a flubit

Very nice addition to a cheap bedroom LCD. I use just the centre and fronts with the sub. Great sound.

Showing as £60.99

In the sub.

I got the even older X-530 from way back and they still sound great!

Heat added for the good deal but the price is now £70.

Here is the direct link as that points to a seller now with a different price though note the dispatch time of 1-3 weeks.

Thank you! That is showing the stated price!

Looks like nice kit for the money. Have some heat, thank you.

Going to send back my 100w subwoofer, found on here, gonna give this a try instead, thanks

Cancelled my order in the end, only because of the placement of the volume control. If it had shipped with a remote control i'd have been all over this, but the fact that i'd have to have the front two satellites on my desk rather than either side of the room was a deal breaker for me.

Still, a great looking (and sounding, apparently) set at a good price. My heat vote still stands!

Forgive my ignorance but
Is it the sort which will support 5 different channels at once? Ie Dolby 5.1 or is it just basically stereo with some fake surround added on top?

Ie if watching a movie that has 5 channel will I be able to hear the zombies creeping up behind the sofa?

It completely depends on source and player. Like VLC, it will have a 5.1 option and as long as the movie has 5.1 audio it will be "real-ish" 5.1
And make sure you use the multi-channel inputs.

Possible to connect these to an xbox 360/Xbox one?

Maybe good value, but certainly not as a starter surround sound set...there really is no upgrade path from "starter".

A starter surround sound set would include an av receiver with a set of budget speakers with room to grow.

A "budget" surround sound set would have sounded better.

So can anyone suggest a good starter surround sound set ?

If your budget is only £50, then no. What budget have you to play with?

haven't really thought of a budget - how much would I be looking at ?

Second hand around £100 at least, new around £200-250 for starters.

both sound reasonable, maybe not an immediate purchase but something to think about. Make/Model for a good starter package.

The budget Denon AVRX500 Receiver Richer Sounds have for just £99 currently (VIP member offer, free to join)

A better buy that packs more punch in that budget end is the Pioneer VSX323 for £139.

If you want bookshelf/standmount speaker for less than £250 all in you would have to look into second hand options, however if you wanted satellite speakers there are packages such as the Pioneer S-HS100 which Richer Sounds do for £99, but its always worth shopping around for clearance deals on speaker packages, even looking in Richer Sounds clearance section, or checking out websites such as Superfi and the likes of eBay.

that gives me a starting point, thanks - I guess wireless speakers a lot more expensive - already got a lot cables in the room.
