Some days where it doesn't cost you more (beyond the drive time and traffic potentially) to drive into the heart of London.

There is no congestion charge between Christmas Day and New Year's Day inclusive to drive into the London congestion Zone which includes landmarks such as The Parliament, Big Ben, London Eye, Soho, Madame Tussauds, Buckingham Palace etc.

Again not so much of a deal, happens every year but just a friendly reminder

Ho ho ho merry Christmas

Tis the time to be jolly
Thank you. I actually didn’t know that.
Thanks but isn't it the case every year this time of the year.

I am glad the post could be of help. I didn't know of this till a few years back too and came to know only through a good Samaritan - we now drive to the Westminster Pier every year on the Xmas day and its become a tradition of sorts - we all love it

It sure is - which is why I said in the OP

Not everyone knows this - as just commented by @WhkaffaBegum for one - so a helpful word for them.
There is no charge on weekends, public holidays, between Christmas Day and New Year's Day inclusive, or between 18:00 and 07:00 on weekdays. I cant see where its says untill 2nd !!!
Makes a change considering tfl are damn greedy

@tammyy although you did make me look up the dictionary and google - which got me this rather interesting article quickanddirtytips.com/edu…ate - so maybe you do have a point there
I would avoid going to central london on car these days anyway.

We have done it on Xmas day and it’s fun as most public transport etc is not around and crowds are thin - but yes Boxing Day doing this is manic indeed
Parking is probably still difficult though?
Very good reminder!

If you get in earlyish on the holidays then there are off street parkings which you can use, otherwise yes you have to pay the Parking charges

Well the bottom line ofcrouse is that they don’t want you to use your car in the city and instead rely as much as you can on the TFL services, and these measures are in that direction only. Given how congested the city is one can’t blame them can we?

If only but there will be very limited rail services so this is a boost!

The price of breaking the law is increasing? Boo hoo.
Has there ever been congestion on 25th Dec since the birth of Jesus?
ah... the pleasure of sitting in ones car on a crowded street, pedestrians are people i don't care to meet, they can stop and stare i don't give a damn, knowing i'm on a street that is free.
but then
I like driving in my car, even though we can't go far...
Sorry about odd comment but just be careful about this stupid box at junction Bagleys Lane and New Kings Road SW6 . Went to London just once and was caught as i stayed on this money box for 9 seconds. getwestlondon.co.uk/new…513
If you have an older vehicle especially a Van check you don't get fined if it dosent meet the new LEZ Low Emission Zone ruling check here tfl.gov.uk/mod…896 Costs £100 a day if you pay the charge. They fine you if you don't. Cant seem to see them exempting that over the same Christmas period
Any charge will only deter non-essential discretionary journeys. It's perverse logic not to charge at the very time most of the car journeys would be discretionary.
If the charge was seriously something other than a tax on businesses in London it would be kept on ,

London's air might even clear a bit. Why not make all those empty buses free-of=charge instead.

Thats a good shout - in general they are clamping down on the whole yellow box business and they are usually so hidden/crowded/non-visible/whaever that you can easily miss them

Making buses free of charge is a damn good idea indeed, would also encourage people to keep their cars parked at their homes (for folks in London) and in the suburbs (for people travelling from outside).

How do you hide a bright yellow box that has warning signs leading up to it? Unfortunately, the only proven way to change behaviour seems to be to levy a penalty charge.

Thx. Silly me, since it started I thought the T charge was applicable 24hrs including weekends. So stopped going to London

So if any of you Londoners feel the air has worsened on Xmas day... Blame our car
