I was planning on going back to the Philippines 358 (Air China), but i opted to go to Vietnam for 337 (<900 for 2 adults and a child) for a change. I booked through momondo and LycaFly with not bad connections, max of 3hr 10min.

The airline will NOT be great, but the reviews do not look too bad - airlinequality.com/air…es/

I booked 15th of April to 1st of May, but watch the connections as some other dates have long layovers.

This is a cheap option if you are planning on going to Cambodia, it's only $10 (6 hours) on the bus - or if you have miles to use it's only $20 on Qatar Airways. Flying into Cambodia is normally expensive and the connection times on the return leg were bad

For my family i think we are going to spend a day or two in Saigon, then we might go to Phú Quốc. My main goal is go to back to Cambodia and do some island hopping - like staying in Koh Rong.

For anyone who thinks trips to Asia are expensive, for me and a little two year old - it's far cheaper to fly to Asia than it is to go to Europe. Less than 30 pounds gets you a nice hotel on the beach or with a swimming pool, you can go a lot cheaper too...

Hope this helps!

Would u tell Shakira I said hello:)
I'd like to go, but feel I'm too old.

Good for all the n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-nineteen year olds (one for the kids there|)
Flying that far with a 2 year old is not my idea of 'rest' or 'holiday' but hey horses for courses.

Hi Cundall. Great deal, gonna try and convince the better half to get back to Vietnam if i can get a decent price for next year.
You mention Phu Quoc island, i cannot recommend this island enough - it has some of the best unspoilt beaches i have ever seen in the more remote parts and is still relatively 'untouristic' compared to many other S.E. Asian islands. It also has a real family atmosphere to it
It'll be Hoachin Min if every buys this deal.

Thanks I am going to Vietnam next month and have a 1 week open itinerary. I arrive in Hanoi down to Ho Chi with a stop in Hue/Hoi An but now that mention Phu Quoc should be a nice stay.

Hue and Hoi An are beautiful. On the way there is a resort town/village called Mui Ne. I ended up there accidentally after my motorbike packed in about 2 hours out. Anyway, this was 8~ years ago and it was a tiny fishing village but already they were building some bigger hotels and the beaches were sensational, so unspoilt. Sure it will have grown more now to accommodate tourism.
Be prepared for the most amount of mopeds you have ever seen.

Haha I have been to Ho Chi only before. At red light they were going on the pavement. And how about crossing a major road, you walk , the mopeds flow around you like water. Its quite something.
Nightmare crossing the road lol. You just have to step out and run the gauntlet

Another vote for Phu Quoc island, great place. About 40mins flight from Ho Chi Mingh. Book via Vietnam Airlines website directly for cheapest fares in my experience.

More so what they can fit on them. I counted 5 people on one and saw a 4 poster bed on another.

Thanks, been to Vietnam about 3 times, but not been to Phu Quoc... You do seem to be correct, it's about 30 pounds cheaper to book direct (return). I may book the flight one way... explore Phu Quoc, then go over into Cambodia to explore their islands (sadly need to return to the mainland, to cross over).

More recently its a lot harder with more cars on the roads though
Have you come across a phillipines/vietnam combo? We went to cambodia last year, would love to try something different.

For those saying it's hard with kids, we're taking our 4 month old. It's hard but so worth it.

I visited Mui Ne a couple of years ago. It's ok, not much going on really. Lots of hotels, guest houses, restaurants etc. The beach is mostly kite surfing at one end and very difficult to navigate as a result but it is beautiful.

Lol, great isn't it. You get used to it, so much so that you forget you can't do that here in the UK when you return!!

Been to the Philippines 30+ times, have a condo / family in the PI - so ask away if you want any advice for travelling...

Regarding Vietnam to the Philippines, i find the flights expensive even for low cost carriers - so it's normally cheaper to flight straight to MNL or to HKG then to MNL.

BTW Don't stay in MNL for long, unless you know the place as you will basically think it is a slum, but it's really a great place, once you know the hidden places..

30+ times?! That's insane. I'm going to have to drop you a line if I can make it happen soon!

Palawan has been on the list for a few years now, I've just been keen to find any open jaw flights where I could cram as much as possible for my annual leave, Vietnam being one of those countries too!

Palawan is great, i would advise you to visit it sooner rather than later - big companies and bought lots of land and they will sadly spoil places like El Nido. I have wanted to visit Port Barton... a lot less commercial.

Vietnam is nice, but out of all S.E Asia, it has to be the Philippines and Burma for me.

30+ times is a crazy number i know, but i get around a lot (just counted 61 countries).

Good luck finding the right open jaw tickets, but if you only have 2 weeks then - it's really not enough time for the Philippines let alone another country (unless it's just BKK / HKG / KUL / SIN for 2 nights)
