London to Hong Kong (via Beijing) on Air China in January 2016 just £335 return.

Example dates: 5 Jan 2016 to 19 Jan 2016. Outbound dates after 5 Jan 2016 also seem to work (travel before this date is more expensive).

Outward flight time is around 14h 45m; return flight time is around 17h 20m.

It looks like the flights can be booked via a number of different booking websites for around the same price (i.e. less than £340).

3 Star Airline, according to Skytrax

Just be careful you pick flights that have AVOD (Audio/Video On Demand) - or bring your own entertainment. The Netflights website is good for telling you which Air China flights have AVOD.

In my experience a dreadful company.Flew with them in May.
Layover in Beijing. Flight delayed for 5 hours with no explanation, apology or even any announcement. Just a whole flight worth of people stood at the gate waiting for hours on end. Unhelpful staff who refused to tell us anything.

Cheap though.

Not really sorry. Pretty standard stuff. Get a seat near an exit if you can for extra room. Failing that an aisle seat so you can get up and stretch. Pray a family with a baby don't appear near you.

When i flew last year to NY got an amazing upper deck seat with virgin for under £200 return

You pay what you get. I wouldn't recommend to fly with them.

I certainly said that after my last trip. The hotdealer in me is trying hard to forget that experience. Probably worth spending the extra for a better service though.

beware of delays... very poor airline

So is it worth the extra £250 to fly with BA

For an individual i'd say so.
For a small group/family i'd probably take the day or 2 of pain to save 750/1k

Boeing 777-300 available on this route as well (but your comment about 1 deck still stands!)

BA use the A380 for one of their two flights to HKG. Even better, Virgin now use the Dreamliner.

I was tempted to fly with them as I currently live in Vietnam but after reading experiences of delays etc I decided to fly with Jet. More expensive but worth it as I won't fly with Middle Eastern airlines.

Don't fly BA either absolutely crap both are the same. save the £250 and fly with these.

Just awful. Cattle class. Plane food like thrown up. I'm Chinese.

Took advantage of this deal for November , and its on the new dreamliner.

I flew with Air China a couple of years ago on a hotukdeal with this exact route but it was open jaw so stayed in Beijing and Hong Kong.

I would happily fly with Air China again, there were no delays and the service was good. The in flight entertainment was adequate. I flew to New York a couple of months ago with Virgin and was disappointed as the flight there was delayed by 2 hrs 45 mins, got served food last with no choice of meal and couldn't claim any compensation.

I think on both occasions it is down to expectations and luck. Circumstances mean that flights can be delayed and you have a poor service etc.

rubbish

Used a couple of times, no complaints from me. Better than other higher rated companies. Worst I've had is Etihad surprisingly. (a few times!).

We have flown with them to Australia twice,my husband three times.Okay they are not the best out there, but not the worst,we have had no problems,as the price is allways the cheapest, happy to put up with lack of variety in food.
On the trip back.we have been given a free stopover in a four star hotel.as our stopover is longer than 12 hrs.they arrange this in an organised helpful way.
If like us,we want to visit our family on a regular basis, and can do it with the price they charge .were happy.

I've never flown with Air China but I wouldn't be surprised.:D

Heat added. Is there any good deal for Beijing in September?

1. 1st reaction, mainland Chinese airlines, avoid like plague
2. Possible delay if in transit in Beijing(military aircraft takes all priority , may not be entitled for any compensation, good luck if you are covered by travel insurance;)
3. Be aware of the customer service quality if you are Chinese(or Oriental) origin(Regardless of nationality), you may need to speak English to get the better service.

4. All in all, you get what you pay for.

rubbish

Not Rubbish mate i travel all over and have been for the last 5 years i would say i fly at least 3-5 times a month and from my experience BA are Crap! don't know about anyone else but from personal experience i won't fly them again just check reviews online most people say they are rubbish! (but again depends on what route you fly) and if it has connections ect.
One of my examples with Ba was almost a 3 day delay offered me to fly Malaysian airlines flight which was a much cheaper flight with 2 stops my original flight was direct, they told me they always double book seats so a lot of the time they ask people to wait in a hotel for the next flight.(was told this by there staff) returned to catch my flight they kept my luggage stored asked 3 times is my luggage boarded got told 3 times "Yes its already on the plane,do not worry" arrive at destination NO Luggage. came 2 days later.
