As part of the 3rd anniversary celebrations Codemasters/Turbine are offering existing and new players a chance to have a lifetime subscription for half the usual price. Players that normally pay £10 a month should find this deal quite tempting if they are planning on sticking around for another 6 months or so.

For those in Euro paying areas make sure you select UK as your country of residence or they will want 110euros!

I've had lifetime since this game was released and have been playing it since then.
Great game.
Heat and reputation.

bah if this was the price 3 years ago i would have snapped it up, i have restarted a few times each time not getting far due to boring gameplay and lack luster classes its basically a wow clone, ultima was the first true mmorpg, but wow refined the genre and most developers have been copying wow which is the same with lotro

though heat added due to getting a return after 8 months

why not just include that price in games of this nature anyway?

The monthly fees pay for the maintenance of the servers as the have to be continuously up and are constantly being worked upon. That is my understanding of it anyway.

Heat for the deal especially if you are a pay monthly Lotro player. Is there any indication as to how long this is deal is available. I am looking to come back into the game but only when they introduce the DX11 patch.

That and the fact that most MMORPG developers such as Blizzard are continuously working on additional content and patches to extend gameplay. Getting a huge content patch every 2-3 months isnt a bad thing at all for the price, considering the content in the games usually last that long + more anyway.

WoW copied Everquest.

Having played both, in my opinion WoW is no better than LOTRO.

Let's face it, pretty much all MORPGs have the same classes, they just call them different things. However, WoW has more annoying, immature kids playing and it also doesn't have Tolkien's stories and lore to fall back on which is a big pull for a lot of people. Plus LOTRO is graphically superior.

WoW is like the iPod of MORPGs - just because it is the most well known and has the most players doesn't mean it is the best.

And £75 for a lifetime subscription to LOTRO is a great deal, having to pay £9 a month always makes you feel like you need to play, even if you might not want to, seeing as you are paying for it, this way you don't mind so much if you take some time off to do real life things!

Actually, its because WoW is the most user friendly MMORPG in the market. Yes, since its release it is slowly declining into the most noob friendly game in history, but that still doesnt make it bad. I've played my fair share of MMOs, Vanguard, LOTRO, GW etc, and none of them provide the same amount of functionality or in depth gameplay as WoW. LOTRO might have superior visuals in a realistic sense, but it was designed to be that way, where as WoW was designed to look cartoon-ish.

You're right that most companies are attempting to re-create the WoW experience, but all have failed thus far.

Here's hoping BioWare come up with something brilliant!

who would play this game for their entire lifetime?? .. better to do different things, maybe even different games too

75/9 = 8.3, so if you plan to play for at least 9 months (of sub) then its better value...

Blizzard President: Only one kind. Whoever this player is, he has played … Blizzard President: Only one kind. Whoever this player is, he has played World of Warcraft nearly every hour of every day for the past year and a half. Gentlemen, we are dealing with someone here who... had absolutely no life.

How do you kill... that which has no life?

rep for the quote

Is it just £75 or do you have to buy the original game and expansion packs also? If so, which ones? Thanks.

Guild Wars II will be free and will have massive player counts like wow and lotr.

D

If this were WoW, the forum would have imploded by now with the biblical tidal wave of gushing WoW'ers!

you'd need to buy each expansion as well.

GW was never the same business model, they went for paid expansion releases instead. regardless, if its online and they have to run a server, you're going to be paying one way or another.

Seems like a good deal.

Good if you play, I now play Eve Online and I don't pay anything because you can pay with in game ISK (money)

Realistically though, how long do you have to play a month to pay for your online time ?

Genuine question as I was quite interested in this.

I think back in the day I paid to be a Founding member but it was much more than this

If you play this sort of game you'll know you'll need 6 months plus just to really get anywhere worthwhile, they're not the type of game you play for 10 minutes and switch off

Remembered seeing this deal....

They have just announced that online charges have been pretty much been dropped! mcvuk.com/new…lay

'From this autumn players will be able to play up until level 50 for free. Past this there will be an additional fee required, with paid-for credits also available to exchange for in-game items. Players will also be able to choose between paying for a monthly subscription or micro-transactional credits up to level 60'.

Think I'll be signing up soon

Booo! I got that in my inbox this afternoon and was pretty delighted as I got to lvl 50 (or 60) then got bored of the game and cancelled subscription! Was quite looking forward to hitting it on a free basis. Didnt realise its only until you get to lvl 50

IGN Stated that LOTR online is going free 'to play' soon...

Does that affect this deal at all?

Lord Of The Rings Online is going FREE to play... Beta Sign up here:

for one month free in eve you need about 300 millionabout about 10 million a day
if you do 4 (level 3 )missions each day you will earn enough
you will hear people saying they earn 40-60 or more mill a hour but they got loads of experience in eve
myself as a complete noob with a new account from the steam sale and trained up a gallant battleship in a month and on my 2nd month was earning 10+mill a day
easiest way was to do lvl 3 missions which i completed about every 30 mins and got about 2.5 mill from salavaging and kills
hardest part was earning the money to get your first battle ship but it comes quick if you just keep doing level 1-2 missions as you can earn a mill a mission from these but you need 80 million to set a battle ship up in the begining

i tried trading and you can make millions a hour but you got to know what to your doing most i ever made was 600+million in 1 hour but only happend once but was a very good hour of play for me
but on average i found i didnt make very much

but like i said the easiest most consistent way for me was doing missions

as your skills improve you can move to lvl 4 but i would wait till you can afford to lose your ship

ps get a free 21 day trail from a current player then you can play for 51 days for only one months sub
