Lovefilm - checky little loophole

If like me you have been renting from Lovefilm and then cancelling by telephone when free trial is over they have probably offered you 3 months for the price of 1. Well I rang them a couple of weeks ago to do this and was offered nothing - which was suprising.
So I checked through the deals to find another free trial code (think it was 3 months free) and set that up with a new email and cleared cookies.
Next day I got emailed by Lovefilm saying that as I had already had free trial at my address I could either pay full fee for account or cancel it. So I cancelled and started looking at other film rental sites.
A week later I got emailed again by lovefilm (to this new email address) saying that they were sorry to lose me and would I like to reactivate my account and get 3 months for price of one.
The link/ code they sent would not work but I rang them and got the deal anyway.

I would be interested to know if this works for anyone else.

if you search the forum you will find 3 months free for previous customers. much better !

Yes 3 months free is better than 2 months. But that deal was posted in Sep so folks could be nearing the end of free period and If they get offered no retention deal might like to try it. Just spreading the knowledge. Why so chilly £15 instead of £45

I wouldnt touch this company with a barge pole quite frankly........During a free period I only ever received one free title,even though i had a whole load of titles in my list.At the end of the month they charged me £14.99 for the previlidge.....I rang and complained ....all they were willing to do was give me another month free......I reiterated the fact that I didn't want to stay with a company that thought that charging £14.99 for one title was good practise and wanted a full refund...they refused, all I got was some jibbering none English bloke that didn't understand plain English on the end of the phone "reading me the small print" on their policies...I ended up reporting them to trading standards in the end........and still never got a refund !!!
Don't expect much help or understanding from them if you have to ring them with a problem on your account!!!

That sucks. I've always found that emailing your problem in gets much better results - I did when I wrongly got charged an extra month when I'd cancelled and it was sorted within a day. Not that you should get problems in the first place mind...

I'm sure this is an isolated case.

I am on my third trial now, and have never been charged.

My family and i get through about 3 discs a week!!

I dont beleive a word of that.

I've had problems with them in the past with their free trials.

They charged me, I tried to cancel, they wouldn't. I got in touch with VISA disputes in the end and had my money refunded that way. They are very well known to VISA disputes

Not being funny, but did you send the title you had back? They only send replacement titles upon receipt of your returned disc so if you keep hold of it for a length of time, you don't get any new films! :whistling:

I had a rubbish experience with lovefilm too. Three discs sent during the trial, all of which were badly scratched and jumpy. Stick with Blockbuster now and use my tesco vouchers to pay for rentals.

i have always had amazing service from lovefilm. 6 months free, paid 4 months, had a free ipod. 2-4 discs a week, only had one bad disc which was replaced within 2 days.

Yes I sent the title back straight away....in fact the same day!!!
I waited several days for it to arrive back with them....Apparently they never received it...so I logged it as "lost in Post" as they suggested after the alloted time had passed....they then informed me they might charge me for the title, a cost of £9.99 I think it was (please don't quote me on that I might be wrong) Then i waited and waited...I was told over the phone again that the reason I was not receiving titles was because the titles i had on my list were very popular titles.....I wouldnt mind but some of them were childrens cartoons like Lunar jim, back yardigans,little einstein titles so hardly newly released titles.After the month was up I cancelled but yet they charged me because I canceled one day late......I was fuming...especially since I had tried the day before but after being on hold for nearly 20 minutes on the helpline I had to hang up....constantly engaged .......hmmmm I wonder why!!!

have never had an issue with them and had free trials for the last 9 months, have not paid them a penny for any DVDs and also have blockbuster accounts running on the side so get 6 DVDs at a go. Winner!!!!:thumbsup:

To be fair, Screen Select where pretty bad so I went to blockbuster (Great at the start then turned a bit rubbish) went to lovefilm about a year ago and I cant fault them! Excellent serivce (and free tiral for last 9 months:) BTW (if you dont know) you can cancell your account online between 12am & 6am to save begin on hold for ages to cancel over the phone.

14 day free trial
i cancelled after 13 days i only recieved 1 title and they mangaed to lose one on the way to me
they still charged me 14.99 on the 13th day and when i asked what was the free trial period they said 14 days and when i said i took the trial out on the 2nd and cancelled on the 15th thats 13 days
They refused any type of refund and yes they were indian (in india) they gave me an address in london which never responded so i claimed back through visa

Unlimited. I get about 25 films a month. Make sure you select Combination Two to get games/blu-ray disks.

yup. unlimited, although i got a reminder email when i had wario for the wii because i had for 2 weeks lol. i guess they do that to make sure its not lost in the post.

any step by step guides as im likely to make a complete **** of it...

TBH I wouldn't consider using any 'freebie' rental offer less than one month - you've no time to cancel if you don't like the service. In my latest 3 month free trial I've had 25 films since September 25th, 5 or 6 within a few days of release date. Only one title gave me problems - (paused & locked-up in one DVD player).

I've tried 4 or 5 rental services and Love film was the best for speed and top-titles. I'm on my fouth freebie with Love Film. (one 28 day free-trial and three 3-month "please come back we miss you" freebies).

I think these poor experiences must be the minority as I've had no problems and watched 71 DVDs for free.

I sent "300" back two weeks ago without my youngest having seen it and she's still moaning - guess I'll have to add it to the list again.:whistling:

I've been with Lovefilm for about 2 years on free trials, never paid them a penny and i've always had good service, can't complain!! Though my free periods about to expire so fingers crossed i can keep it up.

I used Lovefilm for years.
Even before they were lovefilm, when they were DVDSonTap.com.

However, I had a nasty experience also.

I cancelled my account & 6 months later I got a letter from a debt recovery agent telling me I owed £25 to them from lovefilm.
I rang up lovefilm, ended up speaking to someone who didn't understand a word i was saying, & his english not great. Eventually promised me a callback or email which I never got, in the end I paid it, as i didn't want a bad debt. (wish I hadn't)

It turned out that Lovefilm claimed that I hadn't closed my account properly & it was still active so what I owed was outstanding monthly rental.

I explained that if my account hadn't been closed properly, why was i sent no emails, no phonecalls, no nothing, until a debt recovery agents letter drops on my door. They had no answer.

I also asked, didn't they think it was odd that my DVD list had been empty for months & that they hadn't even sent me any DVDs, & none were outstanding! !
However it was impossible to explain this to the indian call centre.

I will never use them again.

im currently using my first 3 month trial, its from a voucher that my girlfriends brother got when he cancelled, in fact he gave me two. will II be able to use the other at my home address?

Indian call centre? I called them twice about reactivating my account a couple of weeks ago and both times spoke to a Scottish lady?
