Really appreciate this, just bought a racquet so I could get back into playing and found the local tennis club charges £23 an hour for courts! Booked 3 sessions at different clubs over the next 4 months so I can see which suits me best. Thanks!

Thanks OP, Great!!

Loads of details on their website with the most common questions. Don't think this will be everyones cup of tea but signing my two kids up for it and thought would share.

I got my kids booked in for a course starting in September on Sat afternoons. Brilliant. Thanks OP

My little girl is in the middle of her lessons and has really enjoyed it, great value to try something we probably wouldn’t have done before. The instructor said they stopped the free lessons as people just wanted the free racket without committing to the lessons.

My nephew had this and just finished the course in London.

Yeah read it on the site. Nevermind

Only for kids aged 4-11 years near me.

I feel sorry for you. I was disappointed too. David Lloyd receptionist was one of the most unhelpful person I have ever came across over the phone. Never again.

I am very disappointed with this offer.I have booked for 4 slots in David Lloyd Club on 21st. I travelled all the way with my mom in a wheel chair using public transport . when I reached the club, the receptionist informs that the event is cancelled. Is not it a responsibility on the club to atleast send this communication of cancellation across to the registered participants. Very Irresponsible ! I then dropped a note to the General Manager and received a call providing 1 day free access to the club. Can you compensate the time and the other priorities which I have cancelled only to attend this event ? How do you justify this? I am really frustrated on wasting my Saturday on this event.

Thanks OP, went today, rated hot!

I have been preparing to go to the session but I could not find my old tennis racquet so I called our local David Lloyds to ask them as the booking stated if you do not have one do not worry you can borrow theirs. So I called and spoke with them only to find out that they have three spare racquets. How will they accommodate 12 persons then who were booked on this same session. The reception also mentioned it is first come first served for the 3 racquets so what will the remaining 9 do? I do not want to take part in a wasted journey all the way to the nearest centre. They should clear it beforehand. I understand it is a free event but according to most people commenting here at the end of the day they will be working their socks off to pressure sell us the tennis and / or club membership.

We did sign up for it last year and they cancelled the morning of the first lesson with no reason or apology. We were sent a tennis request as an apology but in truth it definitely left a sour taste in the mouth. We’re going to the local David Lloyd tomorrow so should be a fun afternoon anyway.

Shame Tennis is so expensive , Golf is now cheaper ! Then we moan and complain we have no British winners when most free tennis courts are closed ,sad , many hate the UK so must make a profit out of this state of affairs , you have to play loads and loads of money here ,Wimbledon home of British Tennis ,time to sell it to the Chinese , Tennis here was once a universal game ,now memberships are stupid prices ,the amount of covered areas are diminishing , when you do join a club you cannot get a court as the pros are teaching en masse 6 yr olds as their parents or carers await in their Range Rovers ,the ones who bought the free parks for peanuts , to take them home to rest before more mind control !

Don't forget Tennis for Kids

Time to dust off the old tennis stick

It doesn't look like you have to. Once you get to the session selection page, a lot of sessions state "You can borrow our rackets if you don’t have your own, just come prepared to hit a few balls and have some fun." But double check your session in case only a few are.

Do you have to bring your own rackets?

Yes, it was free last year. The children got a new Babalot tennis ball and a new Davis Cup racket. I liked the idea that you could not get the new racket until you finished all six lessons, it was a real incentive :)

I`m not sure which club/centre you attended so cannot comment on this exact incident but you cannot generalise with the statement of saying the sessions are not well organised and the instructors do not have the skills? This should only be run by Level 3 LTA coaches and they should have the skill and they should be well organised. If you found the one you attended was not I would change club/location if interested in learning/attending. Also the comment about nothing you won`t learn from playing outside, well it is an introduction session that should go over the basics but should be in a structured well delivered format that will be more beneficial than just playing oustide, unless you have tour own mini tennis court/net red balls and coaching knowledge. I have noticed this year it is £25 so I know for a fact that many good quality coaches and clubs are running the initiative.

could not agree more, instructors have no skill set in handling kids or tennis and had to remove my kid when started feeling it was getting dangerous as he could of fallen with no supervision, would'nt not recommend and left us :S worried ...

Thanks for the heads up, booked

Thanks. Decent offer.

Tickets for Queens Tennis Final (Monday) £10! @ LTA
Since the final has been postponed to tomorrow (Monday 13th June 2011) tickets are now only £10. Providing you can get the day off work!

Tears of celebration perhaps.

Still available at the gate tomorrow, will go early tomorrow :)

Cry like a girl?

I suspect Murray only takes this minor event seriously so he has an excuse as to why he failed at Wimbledon. You'd think that 'a strain picked up at Queens' would wear a bit thin after using the same excuse for a third time.

Glad to see James Ward the Englishman drop out, let's hope a Scotsman can do what he couldn't :)
