Need to improve your search skills, you can get to Buenos Aires most dates in Jan/Feb from around £500 return on Iberia/Alitalia/Klm etc.

Nothing remarkable about this deal, for most destinations there are cheaper, often better, carriers than Lufthansa.

No you can't - skyscanner shows lufthansa / klm and Alitalia - the cheapest return is £650 and I don't particularly want to go out midweek. 16/1 is a Wednesday and fly back on 13/2 a Wednesday (defeats the object of attending a language school) when you're paying from Monday - Friday and the same for the attached accommodation.

The cheapest single is £426 flying from London City which adds another £100 at least as I'm in the midlands.

whatyadoinsucka - Thanks for looking but I want to go in summer (now) and preferably for 5 weeks for a language course.

Yes you can. Anyway my point is still valid, since when does the £650 midweek return you found equate to the £2K you mentioned in the original post ? You also never mentioned your exacting requirements on dates. But taking those into account and flying on the weekend on you can still bring it in on the not unreasonable prices below. If you decide you want to fly a week or two either way the same prices apply. And if you were more flexible you can get it at @£500.

Not my fault you live in the midlands.

Like you say nothing remarkable about the prices, but I have always liked flying Lufthansa always professional and efficient, never flown Iberia or Alitalia and don.t necessarily intend to, flying from Manchester Lufthansa has a great gateway to china/Asia and a few to South America as they have 3 daily flights to the German hubs, price wise circa £500 quid to fly
Got to agree with the flights from London would add another 3-4 hours minimum drive plus extra allowance on the way down, so lowest price isn.t always a factor.
4.95p a mile to Beijing and return seems reasonable.. Plus I think you fly a380

Roame.....

Thanks for checking I've been on Iberia' site and can't see any return for £500?

The cheapest outbound flight in January is £314, the cheapest inbound flight in February is £313 = £627 (which is what you've screen printed above)

I'll alter my dates to get the best deal... main thing is need to be there for 5 weeks and need to arrive at the weekend and depart at the weekend.

Unfortunately you can't be quite flexible enough to get it at £500, this is how it works and might be useful for you another time. It takes advantage of the fact that flights like this can be considerably cheaper out of Italy and Italy can be cheap to get to. In the example below you can see the cost is £429 for Rome-Buenos Aires return. A Ryanair return flight to Rome comes from about £50 return depending on dates. or you can even get British Airways or Alitalia for just over £100 on many dates. However this can't work for you as you need 5 weeks =35 days and ticket validity for this flight is 30 days only.

In the circumstances I think the Iberia deal from London I posted earlier is the better choice for you as it fulfils all your requirements as its valid for 3 months and you can go out and back at weekends. £627 really not that bad considering everything.

Btw. Quite possible that Iberia will have a post Christmas sale so might be worth waiting a few days. Good luck.

But how much is that Ryanair return with a bag, it'd be tricky packing 5 weeks of clothes in a Ryanair sized baggage allowance

I use laundries.

what for 5 weeks I spent January-march there 5 years back and used laundries and still had 17-18 kgs.. Cabin baggage is ok for long weekends but 5 weeks.. Come on.

Well its all somewhat irrelevant as the Rome flight has a 30 day validity. So on the dates above you can do London Buenos Aires on Iberia for £627 or on Lufthansa via your link for £1037, know what I would choose.. Or if 30 days were sufficient for me and I was looking to save money and fly with checked baggage then I could pick up an Alitalia flight to Rome for about £100 and still be about £500 better off than if I were flying Lufthansa.

I agree on the price, you've done good..
but the deal i posted wasn't intended for last minute, most good airlines tend to fill seats well before the event, and only under capacity planes sell off cheap tickets 2 weeks before. for people who prefer non london flights lufthansa is perfect for manchester, birmingham etc. the flights i looked at, china/japan/buenos aires/rio allcame up great for the later departing dates per the deal.

Price, Total Hours, Landing/Takeoff Times, Carrier, Entertainment System, Leg Pitch, Fleet Maintenance (free booze to some people).. all important factors.
