Ordered, excellent reviews for the product.

I wonder if you can boot from this?

I wonder if it's really limited to 500GB or if that was just the largest drive available at the time the blurb was written?

Looks good. Mostly positive reviews. Always handy to have 1 or 2 of these in your spares box, and for £5 you can't go wrong!

What's the difference between aluminium material and aluminium?

Just ordered but fear I should cancel as my drives are IDE/ATA (I think).

Two long rows of pins (minus one) with 4 separate pins to the right.

Is this any use for me?

Yeah, Im wondering the same. I want to buy a 640gb 2.5" Samsung hdd, and need a case for it.

That pin layout is IDE. If that's the case, they won't fit in this unit.

But there is also an IDE version. Same price.

ordered one

This is a better view of the differences between SATA and PATA for 2.5 inch hard disks.
The previous PATA image shown in post #9 was a 3.5 inch PATA interface with seperate power cable & plug.

Fantastic HDD Enclosure - would get another if I needed it.

Thanks for the help all. Cancelled order and ordered the IDE version.

also found the same deal on Ebay (£4.99).

Is this not the same item here?

£2.98 - just as good quality. But postage from Hong Kong. Depends where your priorities are I guess!

I have one of these - they are very good. I use it on an upgraded laptop drive which needed a home. Only 40GB - but it serves nicely as a temporary storage device for carting files between locations.

No screwdriver needed either - just clips apart, and seems sturdy enough.

This may be a stupid question.
But will this run of normall laptop hard drives?
I have a broken laptop and need the infomation of the hard drive. If i put the hard drive into this and connect it via usb to a different machine can I access and copy all the infomation?
Thanks.

Sorry reply is late, so long as the drive itself is not broken then you can do that fine, it's a great little unit
