Thanks OP.

I remember having an old crt Luxor television and the quality was as good if not better than most other makes.
It was about 20 years ago; no idea what Luxor are like now, but £150 for a 40" tv can't be bad.
Heated.

Just noticed this tv has a free 5 years guarantee

On this thread it's alleged Luxor is just a badge slap now.

forums.digitalspy.co.uk/sho…t=2

"Luxor ceased to exist ages ago, it's since been just a badge on cheap gear - but I was of the opinion that it had even been dropped from that now?."

Vestel brand is now one of many used to badged Vestel TVs, they mainly use it in the Swedish market where the brand originated and has some heritage.

This price for a 40 inch TV is hot.

Is this full HD? It says HD ready on the picture?

says 1080p in the spec. why would anyone package a SD freeview receiver with an HD panel?

Why expect Freeview HD for £149?

Good price IMHO

Cheers OP. There's a Richer Sounds near me. I'll pop in and have a look over this tv. Hot btw.

Possibly because the design goes back to the days before Freeview HD broadcasts became standard. The DVB tuner will be the last of the standard definition stock being used up, hence the low price.

The spec on the website says clearly that this TV does not have a Freeview HD tuner which might make some broadcast TV look a little rough.

However, for Blu-Ray playback, Sky and VM Satellite/Cable inputs, PVR, home video HD, Chromecasts etc, and many more this will be able to show you full glorious HD on the 40 inch. I know a few people who don't even bother with an aerial for reception, they get everything through Sky or Cable, so the SD tuner on the TV might as well not be there at all.

Exactly, If i had a tv with freeview HD it wouldn't get used as everything either comes through SKY or my amazon fire TV.
Cracking price!

A fixed stand means you can't adjust it

Providing big screen bangs for your buck, the Luxor 401080 is a bargain 40" TV!

FULL 1080P HD ON A BIGGER SCREEN FOR LESS

At the heart of this impressive Luxor TV is a Full HD 1080p, LED backlit screen. Full HD 1080p resolution gets the very best from Blu-ray and other sources and gives lifelike detail and stunning realism. With an LED backlit panel, the 401080 also gives an impressive contrast ratio. Commanding strong brightness, too, this Luxor 40" LED TV boasts a crisp and bright picture with deep blacks and excellent grey scale. Typical of good quality LED sets, there's also truer realism and a greater sense of depth. Thanks to a suite of noise reduction processors the picture is also clean and free from distracting digital distortion.

SOUND THAT'S MADE TO MEASURE

Boasting a 5-band equalizer, it's possible to tune the sound to suit your tastes and room acoustics. For a more spacious sound, a 'surround sound' function is also included. With the inclusion of an analogue audio out via headphone socket and digital coaxial output, it's also easy to upgrade the sound by adding a soundbar.

TWIN HDMI AND USB

Coming equipped with two HDMI sockets, you can connect up your HD sources, such as Blu-ray player and HD set-top box, with ease. Another handy connection is the USB socket. In addition to accepting photos and audio files, this is also compatible with many video files, including MKV, MP4 and AVI. In addition to this, you'll also find SCART and VGA PC sockets included. For private listening there's also a headphone socket. Finally, a coaxial digital output lets you plug the TV into a digital audio system for enhanced sound.

it's definitely Full HD. says on b the website

50 hz refresh rate. I got this on Black Friday coz of price n warranty. Only buy this if u can't afford a tele with higher processing. You will be able to notice the difference. The guys at RS were nice enough to show me the difference bw this and another with higher processing power. And it's easily visible. But I could only afford this. Also you will need some external speaker as sound squeaks at loud volume.

I brought a Blaukpunkt 40" from Tesco for £180. I wasn't expecting miracles from it. But the picture was dreadful using my ps4 through it. So took it back. I decided to look at my old 37" Samsung that gone polarised. Looked more on the internet at replacing the TCON board. Turns out the TCON board for it is widely known to fault so you can't buy them because they are no longer manufactured. So I brought a ebay service to recondition/repair the board. Should be due back today so happy days!! Only cost £30, so if that restores my TV, I will be doing some moonwalks

This seems good value, but There are plenty of better sets around for around the £200 mark so id be tempted to go for something else rather than put have to buy other add on speakers and put up with pants sound... Heat for the price though..

You tend to get what you pay for in this life..heat for the deal but no reviews might make me think twice...

If you can afford the extra £75 this 42" Smart Hitachi from Argos is a far superior Set.

The Hitachi is bigger and has some smart functionality, but £75 in this instance is 50% more...so it's a daft idea to compare them.

I think most would agree it to be sensible to go for the Hitachi over the Luxor.. yes the £75 does equate to 50% more but there are lots of other "name" brand sets under £200..

Belfast have none

I thought the 'H' was for 'humble'?
Is it 'honest'?
So difficult to keep up these days.

Whilst I don't suggest that the Hitachi isn't a smart buy, the 5 year guarantee from Richer Sounds on the cheap 40" has some added value.

Because of the cost of components. Freeview HD tuners have only recently dropped in price and plenty of full HD panel TVs have shipped with just SD tuners from the big names never mind the budget boys.

What would be an even smarter buy would be buy the Luxor and a Now TV box or Chromecast rather than rubbish 'smart' services on another badge slapped none brand TV that costs £75 more.

That's a good point you make, and I stand corrected

It always was 'honest', but humble fits well too, so presumably that's what the poster meant.

Will be 60hz like every other LED tv you can buy.

Only blu-ray is full hd , not hd tv. This tv will play full hd , when inputted.
Cheap tv's are usually better if you have an alternative source to the in-built tuner.
I guess that there is a lot more "badge-slapping" than people realise especially on sub 50" budget tv's !
