What a con! 25 piece set was £53 .... but if you check the B&Q website for the 46 piece set that is £34 ... so looks like they have highly inflated the price on this to make out it’s a good offer!!!
You've changed your tune Harley Mick. I saw you were quite vocal about a similar MAC ALLISTER product days ago (also sold by B&Q). Have you considered a career in politics :-)

Cheap n cheerful 12 point socket diy set, better than most own brands, not as good as Halfords advanced professional, there's not much else to say.

apples and oranges, wont even be made in same factory, but yeah, always best to get a look at quality of each item, halfords advanced professional sockets etc are decent, but their hex keys and pliers are poor at best

Not in the slightest, read post one in this discussion, exactly what I said there, not close to Bahco or Halfords advanced pro. Have you considered a carreer in proof reading? as I don't think it's for you.

This is under a third of the price, dunno how long it was £53 for but £17 is great value.

So what’s the difference between this and the 46 piece set exactly ? 1/2” drive only available in the 25 piece set ? Website doesn’t state any difference apart from more pieces ?

This has a far bigger range of sockets 8mm to 32mm, and is heavier duty, the other set is 3/8 drive and has mostly 1/4" drive bit sockets (hex, posidrive, flat, torx ) this has most sizes you'll need on a car or motorbike etc. If you scroll down on each Web page there's more info, it's an awkwardly laid out website for such a big name.

Also just to be clear you could actually buy both and not be wasting money, they compliment each other, if you follow me?
I bought a cheap as chips set from B&Q about 30 years ago,£19.99..I think its Black Spur branded...anyway after 30 years of car maintenance and general abuse, beating it with hammers etc nothing has ever broken lol...I have more expensive sets here as well but tend to grab the cheap set as I want to keep the expensive stuff good lol...I've bought a few loose TorQ branded sockets from B+Q in odd sizes that were not in the sets and they were fine.

If these tools save you 30mins of a mechanics time, you've profited. Just handy to have in the car boot etc, for something like a loose earth strap or battery connection could save you a breakdown call out. There's no point in buying snap on or facom etc to leave in the boot on the off chance, and no point in buying this alone if you expect to make your living with them. Horses for courses and all that. These will last years of occasional diy use I reckon.

There were about 6 of these on the shelf today when I was in collecting my Stanley hacksaws
My issue is that diy.com/dep…rue is a 91 piece set that includes all 25 pieces plus a whole load more for only £25 (and only retailing for £50) albeit out of stock. Which means that B&Q are trying to deceive people into thinking they are getting a bargain when in practice they simply retail this product for more to make the reduction.

£0.68 for every item in the box, not factoring box into equation. If you don't think that's a bargain.. Simples, don't buy it. I don't mind or care, free country and all that.

My issue is trolls... Why not give something back to the site?
I picked this up at B&Q in Drumchapel , Glasgow only to find that they had given me a different type. I took it back today and I was told that the item I was given was the same. I told them it was different, they disagreed. I asked if I could just have what I ordered , the MAC set. They didn’t have it in stock. The item they gave me has a different part number in the B&Q website so why they think it is the same is beyond me . I got a refund.

This is what they gave me as a replacement diy.com/departments/torq-1/2-socket-set-25-pieces/239959_BQ.prd

And this is what I ordered diy.com/departments/mac-allister-mixed-socket-set-25-pieces/995771_BQ.prd

Clearly a different product and B&Q talking out of their hole .

Same thing just happened to me. I went to pick it up and they tried to give me the torq set. It’s basically the same but it’s the fact they that are saying it’s the right item / barcode rather being honest. I showed them the torq set on their website and they said that product is now discontinued even though the set was in front of us. I done the same and returned it.
Original Poster
I would rather have had the torq set, got the 91 piece torq set as Xmas gifts and they are 6 point sockets and exactly the same except for the better finish.

Look above at the post with photos in and you can see the torq 91 piece set, same part number and barcode as mac allister 91 piece set.
Edited by: "Harley_Mick" 7th Jan

And the barcodes are identical, either torq replaced mac allister or vice versa as the B&Q tool brand.
Appreciate your feedback Harley_Mick. You posted a pic earlier of the Mac set you said you picked up for a birthday present so there must still be some Mac sets around? Maybe I’ll consider getting the torq ones then. I just don’t know why they don’t make it clearer.

They probably don't know any better, must be a million items of stock in there, only barcodes to go by. Yes there's Mac ones around, I saw a few when I picked up my saws, yet my local showed no stock held only click and collect. I'd be happy with either set, but torq is better for freeing rusty or slightly rounded bolts / nuts imho. Either set well worth £17 that's 68p per tool!

My issue is trolls... Why not give something back to the site?

My second issue is rude people. Just because someone doesn't like your deal doesn't mean you need to insult them. I am giving something back to the site. I was pointing out that the deal, whether a deal or not, was not the deal that B&Q claim that it is. They claim to charge £53 for a 25 piece set and £50 for a 91 piece set that includes the whole of the 25 piece set plus a further 66 pieces and then reduce the prices to £17 and £25 respectively. To claim the saving is £53 reduced to £17 is clearly deceptive as noone in their right mind would have ever paid £53 when they could buy the larger set for less before reduction.

I am not a troll I am informing people to help them make an educated decision rather than blindly rushing in to a purchase they don't want. You might not like people who disagree with you but you don't have to be rude to them.

I haven't told people not to buy nor to vote cold. Just given further information to aid their decisions.
