An obvious use (as others have said) is cutting through floorboards when wanting to access below for plumbing/wiring etc. But a 20mm max cut depth is not enough for older floors, usually 23mm or more. And the price of replacement blades (which Screwfix doesn't sell), probably with a fairly short life too, seems to be at least £6.00 each.

I imagine this saw has some uses but, despite the modest cost, I can't see it earning its keep readily.

I'm sure it would be suitable for laminate cutting - but a fine-tooth handsaw would be better and simpler for most applications. And maybe a jigsaw where awkward or non-straight cuts have to be made. (edited)

You just have to be aware of the risk and hold the saw in a manner which prevents it and there are no nails or screws in the item being cut.. Also, always make sure you use sharp blades.

Great little saws giving a very clean cut. Just watch out for kickback as they will cut you badly if not careful. I've got 2 of these and are very handy to have about as they're small and easy to handle.

is this a rotary/circular saw and can you vary the depth of cut?

Yes but it's a mini one so the cutting depth is far less. Really handy tool for wood usually upto about 20mm depth (check the specs for the actual cutting depth).

Code SPRINTFREE gets same day free delivery in the APP (one time only) but only in certain areas, not mine alas and not going to top up to £50 to get normal free delivery. Aliexpress have lots of really cheap 3 inch discs. Just added the app to my phone, earliest I can get to the shop is Thursday so will leave it a day or two in the basket and see of it generates a discount code.

£55 in B&Q but read the reviews there. Kingfisher own B&Q and Screwfix. They are knocking this out for half price for a reason.

Have had mine for about two years. The amount of force to push down on to work is too much for ease of use. As to cutting floor boards, no problem, with the ability to get in tighter to edges makes them the more useful than full size saw.
