comes to something when 10% off a laptop is ~£100

this looks like a very nice machine if you can afford it.
if you want something cheaper of similar weight and screen size maybe the toshiba r700 (without the SSD)

Your NASTY mac is shiny and nice and makes my PC feel ugly and inferior and so i will bitterly vote your mac deal cold and justify it by talking about specification and software jargon.

Heat added!!

i agree with ant lol

shiney or not, is pretty high price for what is essentially a net book... there are better, 'real word' spec ones for a lot less.. Admittedly, it's a good discount on a mac, but a mac, is by essence a pricey bit of kit... for not a lot more in terms of a computer.

i agree that macs are overpriced, but when you start to look for an alternative it's hot so easy.
to call this a netbook is not right.
how many 13in laptops weighing 1.3kg are there out there?
the toshiba R700 i mentioned earlier is one that you can get for less than £700, but if you want it with SSD storage (like the Macbook Air) it costs more than the Macbook Air, tho with better specs.

please point me to 1.3kg laptop with SSD with a 13 inch screen that is cheaper
for example the Sony Z13 looks like it is going to cost over £1800, admittedly with a better processor and 4gb RAM, but that is what you have to compare this with, not a netbook

I love macs but what really grinds my gears is the price difference between the u.s and uk. For example the cheapest macbook air across the pond is $1000 here its £850. Thats over £230 more, tax and shipping doesn't cost that much Apple, its absolutely disgraceful.

Dont buy apple then,Simples.

Yeah the US and UK price difference is an issue, but the fact is if people keep buying why are they going to change

I know but Mr Jobs keeps releasing such good products, and when you video edit/design pcs are poop and thats a fact

Acer 13.3" TravelMate Timeline 8371 Notebook LX.TTK0Z.001 - 13.3" Acer TravelMate Timeline 8371 Laptop, C2D SU9400, 4GB, 320GB, Webcam, Btooth, Finger, VBiz - £481.73 Inc VAT 1.7kg

So circa £500 for SSD for what is relatively slow processor in any case? Congrats on your Euro Millionslottery win though.....or am I missing something ?

'poop' from a hardware or software viewpoint?

travelmate nothing like this either really, these are very expensive but seem pretty capable and very thin/light/stylish...possibly prefer the 11inch myself if had too much money as seems pretty similar yet smaller again.

poop from a reliability point of view. So much more crashing and hanging on windows (running the exact same software),

For doing any live video you just wouldn't touch a pc for this very reason and I don't know a VJ worth his salt that does.

of course that is cheaper, and it might be a decent machine and only a little heavier, but what if you WANT a very lightweight 13in laptop with SSD and good screen?
there are a couple of non-Apple options out there, but they are just as expensive, if not more

Do you know any VJ's that run it on a hackintosh?

I find it very amusing when the Mac fans kick off about reliabiltity of Mac V PC's - a decently made PC will be just as reliable as a Mac - reason being that Intel based Macs ARE actually PC's, same architecture (except for EFI instead of a BIOS), same CPU's, same Graphics, same memory, the list goes on, Macs run Linux with a pretty front end. PC's run Windows/Linux/OSX quite happily.

My PC dual boots with Windows 7 and Snow Leopard and doesn't crash with either OS running.

Thats said, from an engineering perspective, the Mac Air is bueatifully made bit of kit with some very clever thinking gone into the design - it's a pity about all the chinese people that are throwing themselves off the roof at the Apple factory though, I wonder how that sits with Steve Jobs
